Luee

Luee
We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

ONE HIT WONDERS AND CHECKERS

Happy Friday Speakies:

Another weekend is almost here and we have some great days to celebrate over the weekend, so without further ado let’s start to raise our glasses to:

CHECKERS DAY – That great game played by grandpa’s on the front porch on a nice day or cool summer evening. That’s what checkers remind me of two gents who have experienced life and just relaxing. Both wearing straw hats, one may smoke a pipe, there’s some lemonade in a pitcher and kids are watching them play hoping to learn the skills of the game.

FISH AMNESTY DAY – When I go fishing I am a catch and release guy. The only time I would keep fish was on a party boat fishing for fluke. If you catch one fluke or redfish it’s not enough to feed everyone so why keep them.

On TV this weekend two shows made their debuts, The Jetsons’ and my man “Bullwinkle” J. Moose, from Frostbite Falls, Minnesota. Loved Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, it was not for the little tykes its humor was more related to young adults. Bring it back on TV Land Channel.

ONE HIT WONDER DAY – How many one hit wonders were there? I’ll name a few from my era and if you read my blog don’t be shy send me yours and I’ll post your comments. Here is my list from the 60’s:

Alley-Oop by the Hollywood Argyles
Pretty Little Angel Eyes – Curtis Lee
Party Lights – Claudine Clark
Wipeout – The Safaris
Sukiyaki – Kyu Sakamoto
Keep on Dancing – The Gentrys
Harlem Nocturne – The Viscounts, one sexy instrumental play it and you’ll remember hearing it.
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida – Iron Butterfly

There you go Guys and Dolls, just to name a few so dig out those oldies or your favorite One Hit Wonders and enjoy the weekend. I will see you on Tuesday. Be careful out there.

Joe, the King and Father of the Surf Guitar sound, Dick Dale credits the whole surfer sound, are you ready for this? His heritage is Lebanese and Polish.

His uncle gave him lessons on the bali .. lika .. whatever, (sp) in belly dancing music.

He took the belly dancing music and mixed it with his guitar sounds to give us hits like Pipeline.

Skip ... former surfer or "scurfer"

Thanks Skip for the knowledge you laid on the fellow Speakies. Never knew you surfed. Have a good one, maybe a little Harlem Nocturne for the weekend listening pleasure.

Thanks Joe, I totally forgot about that and could not have hummed a single note but once the sax started, holy cow. Close your eyes and you can smell the cigarette smoke and hear the tinkle of glasses in some after hours city jazz club.

That song said it all.

How about a little "Take Five" ...

Thanks again .. skip

I think I was one of the only kids to surf back then. Jack Prihoda, was one, his dad was Chief of the TPD.

The 70s and 80s are my obscure song knowledge era. I remember the good the bad and the cheesy LOL:)
