Luee
We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT

HELLO GUYS AND DOLLS:

FOR MANY YEARS BEFORE MOVING TO FLORIDA AND FINDING THE BEST JOB I HAVE EVER HAD, I WORKED IN THE CLAIMS DEPARTMENTS OF TWO GREAT INSURANCE COMPANIES IN NEW JERSEY.  I STARTED OUT AS A PHONE REPRESENTATIVE, MOVED TO AN ADJUSTER POSITION AND DUE TO OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES MOVED TO ANOTHER COMPANY WERE I WAS AN ADJUSTER, SUPERVISOR AND LITIGATION EXAMINER FOR MANY YEARS.  GREAT CAREER, WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND THEN FLORIDA CALLED AND HERE I AM WRITING THIS FOR ALL OF YOU.  FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW THE HISTORY OF INSURANCE, HERE IS A LEGEND.

ONE NIGHT IN ANCIENT TIMES, THREE HORSEMEN WERE RIDING ACROSS A DESERT.  AS THEY CROSSED THE DRY BED OF A RIVER, OUT OF THE DARKNESS A VOICE CALLED, "HALT!"

THEY OBEYED. THE VOICE THEN TOLD THEM TO DISMOUNT, PICK UP A HANDFUL OF PEBBLES, PUT THE PEBBLES IN THEIR POCKETS AND REMOUNT.  THE VOICE THEN SAID, "YOU HAVE DONE AS I COMMANDED.  TOMORROW AT SUN-UP YOU WILL BE BOTH GLAD AND SORRY."  MYSTIFIED, THE HORSEMEN RODE ON.  WHEN THE SUN ROSE, THEY REACHED INTO THEIR POCKETS AND FOUND THAT A MIRACLE HAD HAPPENED.  THE PEBBLES HAD BEEN TRANSFORMED INTO DIAMONDS, RUBIES, AND OTHER PRECIOUS STONES.  THEY REMEMBERED THE WARNING.  THEY WERE BOTH GLAD AND SORRY ---- GLAD THEY HAD TAKEN SOME, SORRY THEY HAD NOT TAKEN MORE.

COULD THIS ALSO BE A LESSON IN LIFE FOR ALL OF US, NOT FOR INSURANCE BUT TO ENJOY EACH DAY AS YOU WAKE UP.  AS OLD AS I AM, I'M LEARNING A LESSON EACH DAY FOR I WAS A FOOL FOR NOT BEING HAPPY AND ENJOYING LIFE MANY TIMES.  I HAVE TO THANK ROE ALLOWING ME TO SEE THE LIGHT AND THANK HER FOR THE MANY TIMES I FAILED AND YET SHE STUCK BY ME.  PLEASE  ENJOY LIFE WHO KNOWS WHAT IS BEYOND.

HAPPY HUMP DAY GUYS AND DOLLS

Happy Wednesday Guys and Dolls:

I'm always in the mood to find something different to write about so while at the doctor's office last week I was reading a local publication with loads of advertisements and other stuff.  So today Joey Z presents you with some "FUN FACTS FROM THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE."

Pinocchio is Italian for Pine Eye.

Camel's milk does not curdle, I guess that is the reason it is good on desert trips.

Murphy's Oil Soap is a chemical commonly used to wash elephants.  If any thing could get them clean that's it.

Checkmate comes from the Persian phrase "Shah Mat", which means the king is dead.

91% of Americans lie daily!  I'm sure politicians do most of that.

Cat's urine glows under a black light, new DNA evidence, I think I'll let CSI know.  So there is some interesting tidbits for you Speakies to enjoy today.  Now the holidays:

BE LATE FOR SOMETHING DAY - Who cares just do it once in your life, unless maybe you are getting married today which would not be a good idea.  This holiday is highly recommended for high school students who usually make up loads of excuses.

WAFFLE HOUSE DAY - We have so many in our area I never ate in one.  I remember when our sons were little and we came to Florida, one morning Roe and I stopped at a Waffle House for coffee.  I worked with a wonderful person whose name I won't post but her husband is a manager for several Waffle Houses and she always told me what the good stuff is to order.  One day I will take her up on the advice.  I promise Shakira oops I gave your name away.

NATIONAL SHRINK DAY - Without checking my research sources is this a day to shrink things or do I lay down on a couch and confess my inner most secrets to a complete stranger?  Dr. Niles Crane I have this dream about a beautiful woman who????????????????????????

Finally for us Foodies it is "CHEESE PIZZA DAY."  Honestly the first only true cheese pie I really enjoyed was from DeLorenzo's in Trenton, NJ.  Recently Roe and I have found our favorite pizza place and that is "Brooklyn Pizza" in Winter Park, FL on Fairbanks Ave.  Their plain pizza is great, nice and crispy just the way pizza should be add the toppings and it is out of this world.

Well that is all for today Speakies, have a great day and a pleasant evening.  SHAKIRA I AM SENDING THIS POST TO YOU VIA E-MAIL SO YOU WILL READ IT AND MAYBE START READING MY BLOG.

HAPPY LABOR DAY SPEAKIES

Hello Speakies:

I forgot it was Labor Day but I still wanted to stop by and wish you a great holiday.  I always looked forward to Labor Day it was a long haul to work since having off on the 4th of July.  I look at paid holidays this way so follow my theory.  January 1 is New Years Day most everyone is hung over from New Year's Eve and forget that January 2 it is back to work.  Next comes Martin Luther King Day, a great holiday honoring a great man of freedom.  Speakies after that there is nothing until Memorial Day in May.  I don't know how many people have Good Friday off but there are some.  Followed by the 4th of July which is nice and then Labor Day.  After Labor Day gang we are in coasting gear.  Thanksgiving and the day after, followed by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  For Joey Z it does not matter anymore Amen.  Enjoy your holiday today.

I missed some holidays over the weekend so let me make my respects to:

LEAF BLOWER DAY - To me one of the greatest yard inventions.  I have to pull out my shop vacuum and clean around my carport when necessary.  In our development we have a lawn service that cuts our grass, edges and weed whacks our properties.  Let me tell you the cutting is far from great but I don't have to do it Amen.  Now these guys leave all the clippings all over the place and I was getting furious.  Now that I am retired I wait like a jackal on my porch to make them blow the mess away.  Now I am happy and my Leaf Blower Day Holiday is great.

BLUEBERRY POPSICLE DAY - Never had one, so you lucky Speakies out there who have the advantage of that flavor enjoy one today.  P.S. don't forget the kiddies.

WELSH RAREBIT DAY -  Hell I always thought it was Bugs Bunny on toast.  Actually it is melted cheese and other good stuff made with a savoury sauce served hot over toast.  Sounds like S--T on a SHINGLE from the good old service days.  I never ate it in the service but it is not so bad now, maybe because there is no DI standing in back of me and shouting that I am are nothing but an amoeba.

I may make fun of stuff and I hope I don't offend you Guys and Dolls in my posts.  I enjoy writing and expressing my views.  I never thought I would be the person who could sit down and write what I feel but I'm glad I did with starting this Blog and writing my first book.  I have written a second one but not sure of wanting to publish it.  I will let you know in the near future if I decide.  Have a great day.

I"LL TAKE TUNA ON RYE TOAST WITH LETTUCE AND TOMATO

HAPPY THURSDAY SPEAKIES:

That's right August is "SANDWICH MONTH" and I want you to tell me your favorite kind of sandwich.  First of all what is a sandwich?  A sandwich consists of two or more slices of bread with a one or a variety of meats, cheeses or vegetables between them.  Sandwiches are a favorite lunch time meal as they are taken to work or school for a quick bite to eat.  Credit to the sandwich is given to John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, who according to legend was playing cards and threw some meat between two slices of bread so he could continue to play.  Now for some of Joey Z's favorite sandwiches when I could have most of them are:

BLT on white toast
Cheese Pork Roll on a hard roll with spicy mustard
Tuna on Rye toast with lettuce and tomato
Egg Salad on a hard roll with tomato and one piece of lettuce only
Italian sausage with peppers and onions on an Italian torpedo roll
Cheese steak served the same way
Grilled cheese and bacon
A good old WaWa hoagie "Italian Style"
One of my favorites on the night of Thanksgiving is some turkey, stuffing and gravy on a hard torpedo dinner roll, you can even throw in some cranberry sauce to top if off.

Well I've named a few of mine so I'm expecting to hear from you Guys and Dolls out there.

A Happy Birthday goes out to Gene Kelly born this date in 1912.  A fine actor and a great dancer.  I think he and Fred Astaire were the best dancers ever in film.

It is also "HUG YOUR SWEETHEART TODAY."  So grab that Guy or Doll and give them a big hug and if your sweetheart is of the same sex do the same, its love and no one can change that.

SPONGE CAKE DAY - If you like it eat it, to me it is a sponge with no flavor.  Sorry sponge cake lovers but I call them as I see it.  Have a great day and evening and be careful out there.

A RUM TOAST TO JOEY G.

Good Morning Speakies:

I did not know if I would have a chance to write today but I'm up early so before I do the things I need to do a quick stop by to say hello.  Yesterday I had a late morning doctor appointment in Orlando, so Roe and I thought we would give Il Pescatore Restaurant another try for a different dish.  Greeted by the same happy waiter we decided to order a large sausage pizza and what we did not eat bring home.  We told the waiter to make sure the pie was crispy on the bottom and when it arrived it was perfect.  Great sauce, thin sliced sausage all we added was the dried peppers and garlic.  This pie is highly recommended.  I posted this restaurant's name and address on a prior post.  Check it out.

Today is "BEST FRIENDS DAY" so I want to say hello to my best friend who is like a brother to me Joey G. in Jersey.  Joey G. was the inspiration for my book and if you haven't purchased it or read it on line what is the hold up?  All kidding aside this day goes out to Joey G. from me.  To all my friends at the Lab I could not forget you, let me look through my magic glass and I see John A., Ana, Roula, Doreen, Rebecca, Mike, Jeff, Weldon and even Shoes who is now treating the chickens and all the rest of the Lab Rats.  Thanks for being my friend for many years.

NATIONAL RELAXATION DAY - I'm enjoying my day and hope that you can too.  Just do it, close those eyes at your desk for a minute or two and relax.

NATIONAL RUM DAY - I'm a fan of a good Rum and Coke.  The ones I drank were usually made with Bacardi's Light Rum.  A good summer drink all around to enjoy.  When Roe and I visited St. Maarten we discovered a great rum called "MA DOU DOU."  Strictly made in St. Maarten, the rum comes in a variety of flavors, we prefer the Vanilla Bean, the bottle contains a strip of the vanilla bean plant which enhances the rum with that great vanilla flavor.  This rum is made to sip for its true enjoyment but can be mixed with Coke if desired.

Well Gang, have to run so have a great day and evening and remember my post tomorrow is for someone very special to me.

JOHNNY DID IT. MAKE MINE MEDIUM

Good Morning Guys and Dolls:

Well we are all off to the start of a new week and as usual I hope your Monday is running nice and smooth.  Over the weekend my son Joe and his wife Elizabeth treated Roe for a belated birthday lunch, ahem Joey Z was also included.  I want to say a special thanks to Joe and Elizabeth for a nice lunch and a fun time.  We had lunch at a place Elizabeth has eaten in quite frequently called IL Pescatore Italian Restaurant.  It is located at 651 N. Primrose Drive in Orlando, FL.  A quaint restaurant and strictly New York sounding owners.  I tried pulling up their lunch menu but there seems to be a problem with their site.  Joe had the Chicken Parm a little too dry for him but good, Elizabeth had a great Tortellini dish, Roe enjoyed Gnocchi with a pink sauce and of course I had to have my Veal Parm.  We also enjoyed nice fresh salads and a tasty chicken soup for Roe.  We shared an order of Mussels Marinara as a starter.  Check out their site and if you are a local or a visitor give it a try.

Being retired the days of the week are of no longer importance.  If its too busy to go shopping on Saturday or Sunday, Roe and I have all week long to do the things we like.  This is going to be another busy week with more doctor follow-ups but I will be posting just to let you know.

We do have some holidays today, so let us pay them the usual Joey Z Tribute:

LEFT HANDERS DAY - This one is especially dedicated to my son Jeff and it looks like my Grandson Ian is also favoring being a Southpaw like his Dad.  So "HAPPY LEFT HANDERS DAY" to all you Guys and Dolls out there.  Here is a hint if you are ever visiting St. Augustine in town there is a Left Handers Shop, really neat so stop in.

BLAME SOMEONE ELSE DAY - Here is your chance today to say those great words, "I DIDN'T DO IT, IT WAS SWARTZ."  Today is the day so blame everyone in creation, sit back and laugh.

As for food, one of my favorites "FILET MIGNON DAY."  Roe and I have had some great filets at the specialty restaurants on cruise ships, so tender you could cut them with a fork.  Locally one of the finest filets Roe and I have found is at Texas Roadhouse.  We have eaten at several of their locations and have never been disappointed.  Listen Speakies it is a great day to enjoy a steak so have at it.  Have a great Monday and I'll see you soon.

MAY THEY REST IN PEACE!

Happy Wednesday Guys and Dolls:

Sorry for not posting yesterday but Joey Z had two doctor appointments. Roe and I are doing a little decorating to one of our rooms and of course that meant a quick stop at the stores between appointments.  We did have time to squeeze in some lunch at one of our favorite small hole-in-the-wall pizza joint called "BROOKLYN PIZZA", located on Fairbanks Ave. in Winter Park, Florida.  If you live in the area or visiting stop in for a great pie.  One of my readers the Skipster has reported he and friend had an urge to hit some Trenton food stops last week.  First stop was Polonia, the Polish restaurant on Brunswick Ave., only to find it now a realty office.  Further adventure took them to DeLorenzo's Tomato Pies on Hamilton Ave. only to find the pie was sub par.  OH THE HUMANITY! once great places to eat are now going down hill.  Skip said his only hope was the newer DeLorenzo's in Hamilton.  Good Hunting Skipster!

Here is my gripe for today "GAS PRICES" up and up they go and where OPEC stops nobody knows.
OPEC an intergovernmental organization of twelve oil producing countries.  This group is made up of some of our favorite friends on this planet, lets see who they are:  Algeria, Angola and Ecuador.  Probably some of the better countries.  Now here are the best buddies we have:  Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (that's were most of the 9/11 terrorists came from and they were friends of Georgie Boy and his family), plus the United Arab Emirates and our good friend Venezuela.  Gas prices are a game played with OPEC and all the large oil companies in the world and we pay their price, let's face it it's all in the game.
I love George Carlin a man of true insight, I suggest you go to You Tube and watch his brief video on who runs our government and if you are not wealthy you ain't part of it says George.

Religion is starting to get to me too but that's another subject for another day.  On a lighter note yesterday we celebrated "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" from 7 to 10 pm.  Got that beat when we were kids every night was National Night Out.  Everyone in the neighborhood sat on their front porches.  We talked with neighbors, the kids rode their bikes, played hide and seek or flash light tag and we all waited for the ice cream truck to roll in.  I'm afraid those real night outs are gone unless the people put aside their hate and rage for one another.  I'm glad I lived in that time of no worries and friendship.  It's great to have those memories and to share them with a younger generation.

If you like raspberries and cream today is yours as far as a food holiday goes, I'll pass on that dish.  Well to Skip I can only say I hope the good food returns and to humanity love and friendship appears once more.  See you soon.

A PINA COLADA AND A BUZZ BUZZ

Happy July 10 Speakies:

Today is “FOX AND HOUND DAY”, the only Fox and Hound I know of is a British Pub that has great beer and excellent fish and chips. Let me give you the insight to the real Fox and Hound Day. It is a 1981 animated film owned by Walt Disney Productions. The film relates the story of two friends, a fox named Tod and a hound dog named Copper, who struggle to preserve their friendship despite all the social pressures that arise against them.

DON’T STEP ON A BEE DAY – If you do and are not wearing shoes it’s going to hurt and you will be jumping around until that stinger comes out. My slogan is “DON’T PISS OFF A BEE.”

For you frozen drink fans it is “PINA COLADA DAY.” A Pina Colada is a drink that you sip slowly or you’ll get a brain freeze. It is a refreshing drink and what’s more refreshing is drinking one on a tropical island on the beach or by the pool.

July is also “WATERMELON MONTH” that refreshing fruit that one usually finds at picnics sitting in that metal tub filled with ice and cold water getting it ready to hit and refresh our taste buds. Remember after taking a bite save those seeds in your mouth and have a seed spitting contest for distance. I personally prefer a seedless watermelon not having to worry about spitting out seeds. I remember someone telling me when I was a kid that if I swallowed the seeds a watermelon would grow in my stomach. At Disney World’s Epcot Countries, Mexico made a watermelon drink that was so refreshing it included the melon, the seeds and ice. SO GOOOOD, you can even add a little vodka for the kicker.

Well Guys and Dolls have a wonderful day, be careful out there as usual and give the ones you love a hug.

DAY O, DAY O TAKE ME AWAY TO ISLAND TOWN

Happy July 5 Speakies:

Hope all my Guys and Dolls had a great 4th of July, enjoyed all those steaks, burgers, chicken and dogs you ate to last the rest of the year. Some of you went to see your local fireworks display or turned your backyard into a blazing inferno. Whatever you did, hope you had a relaxing day off. Get this next holiday right after a day off today is "WORKAHOLICS DAY." These are my thoughts of a workaholic devoted to the job 24/7, no time to relax, no time for family fun, hoping for that next promotion, lots of stress and finally you drop dead. It is fine to be devoted to your work in my eyes but not to the point of sheer madness and obsession.

On a lighter note we celebrate “CARIBBEAN DAY.” The Caribbean is my favorite vacation destinations when Roe and I cruise. One of the prettiest ports to sail into is St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, its lagoon is like a half-moon filled with all kinds of private boats and yachts and even has seaplanes taking off and landing. You could stay all day on the ship’s deck and enjoy the traffic going in and out. Aruba is another favorite of ours; Roe and I spent our honeymoon there 34 years ago and returned two years ago to see a vast change in the island. We have been to many islands and each has a beauty of their own to enjoy. I’m glad we were able to pay them a visit.

Yesterday I missed “CAESAR SALAD DAY”, my favorite of all salads. The best has to be made table side and seeing all those fresh ingredients blended into the best salad ever to pass your taste buds. Today I have to mention we honor that great American favorite “FRIED CHICKEN DAY.” To Joey Z the best fried chicken has to be found in the small Mom and Pop restaurants down South. I watch the Food Channel and the chicken fried in those little restaurants will make your mouth water. I’ll take a nice meat filled chicken breast anytime to munch on. So for you chicken lovers out there this is your day to indulge.

And this from a Jersey grown boy please note this first week in July is “BE NICE TO JERSEY WEEK.” No more of those what exit to you live off of jokes. I love living in Florida but Jersey has the tomato pies, great ethnic foods, the shore, the boardwalks, great fresh and saltwater fishing, camping, state parks and many other great things to offer. Make any more fun it is “BADDA BING, BADDA BOOM TO YOU.” Have a great day and as always be careful out there.

THANKS AND THINKING AHEAD

Happy Tuesdays Speakies:

Had the day off yesterday, another doctor appointment, things looking good I hope, came off some more medicine I don't need in the old body.  Thanks to all my readers who sent me birthday wishes on Saturday, Mack, MaryJean, Noel, Roe, Joey, Elizabeth, Tom, The Quixley, Bonnie, Stephanie, Ralph and all the others I may have missed.  65 is grand is guess like to see many more years to come to do and to write and enjoy period.  Roe and I visited my son Jeff and his family on the West Coast Saturday, my granddaughter wanted a Checker's Burger however we convinced her to go for a 5 Guys Burger and Fries.  We had a nice lunch, the place was not crowded and the food was wiped out.  For a little girl who only like macaroni, chicken nuggets and fries she's moving up to the east side of food.

Weather is getting very hot here today, highs are near 96 and maybe some rain in sight over the next few days.
I know a lot of kids will be heading to Disney soon with school being out so the traffic will be building in volume over the next few weeks.  Just remember if you are planning to visit Central Florida and take in the attractions keep your patience, stay cool, drink lots of water and be careful on the roadways because traffic will be heavy and the lines at attractions long.

When I retire next month I may not be writing everyday but there will be posts from me about stuff, maybe me, the crazies, food or whatever I want to write about.  The next month for me is hectic with doctors and getting everything ready for my big day.  Funny when you are young that day never crosses your mind but it is here for me.  Scary in a way, anticipation in another but hopes for a good life to come.  Have to run Guys and Dolls, thanks as always for reading my blog and posts.  Love you all.

WELCOME TO MAY GUYS AND DOLLS

WELCOME TO MAY GUYS AND DOLLS:

To me May has always been the official start of spring. Going back to my childhood days the weather was turning warmer, we started playing more baseball at the Food Fair parking lot after supper and school days were coming to a close. My father started his garden for his tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and mom started her Polish style spring cleaning binge. May is a happy month for me 34 years ago Roe and I were married and blessed with two fine sons. You start writing and your mind slips back to the past and you recall things you did years ago. I remember as an altar boy attending May devotions services in our church, my dad and I making plans to see the Phillies play at old Connie Mack Stadium. One of my best memories is going fishing with him many times after supper at the Marine Terminal on the Delaware River. I guess each of the months brings back memories of things special to us all and us wanting to share them with others.

Some other interesting May facts the flower for May is the Lily of the Valley, the birthstone is the Emerald which means love and success and the Zodiac sign is me the Gemini. I can tell you Roe calls me the true Gemini for having dual personalities which I cannot deny.

Some of the observances we honor on this first day of May are:

May Day – I just remember watching the Russians march their armies and weapons on the national news.

Cheerios made the scene as cereal in 1939; they are still one of my favorite cereals to eat.

Hawaiian Lei Day – those beautiful flowers they put around your neck with that great greeting of Aloha when you visit the Hawaiian Islands. There is an old belief when you leave throw the lei in the water if it floats back to the islands you will return one day if not you never will. Aloha Guys and Dolls.

THE NAME GAME

Happy Hump Day Speakies:

Abbe, Babur, Dagobert and Fabron, what does this mean? That’s easy for it is "UNIQUE NAME DAY” and those are boys names picked at random by Joey Z. I thought about a little fun with some boys names that begin in Z being I’m a Joey Z. So here’s a few to have some fun with and if they are your names tough.

ZEFIRINO – Means Wind of Spring. To me it sounds like a bottle of sparkling water or wine.

ZDENEK – Strong. Could be a character like in one of those Conan movies.

ZEMAR – Meaning Lion, good enough I’ll go with the lion.

ZENOA- An evil planet that is planning to take over Earth.  Could be a planet of pleasure too.

ZERO – It is a Greek name meaning seed. Don’t want to poke fun at the Greeks on this one.

ZIV – Meaning very bright. I haven’t heard this said in a long time, “Boy that kid Ziv is very bright.”

ZOLT – Means chief. To me Zolt sounds like the evil leader from the planet Zenoa planning to conquer Earth.

ZOMBAR –Refers to buffalo. Okay by me now we have Zombar “The Buffalo Boy.”

ZOWIE – Just ask the question how are you today? My name is Zowie and I’m feeling just Zowie today. Boy that’s enough of this stuff for today.

It is also “NATIONAL BE HEARD DAY”, so for those who want to speak their piece today is the day to do and be heard.

PEANUT BRITTLE AND GEORGE

Happy Thursday Speakies:

Good to be back but then there are too many things one has to catch up on. Today is “CLASHING CLOTHES DAY” I guess that’s the one you wear a striped shirt with plaid pants or better yet to get a true sense of fashion enjoy one of those Wal*Mart e-mails that get passed along with those zombies from another planet dressed in their glory. It is also “PEANUT BRITTLE DAY” that sugar covered piece of glass with the nuts inside. Maybe one piece for me every two years but not a favorite of mine. So put on some clashing clothes, grab some peanut brittle and enjoy the day.

On my blog site I have a MixPod Playlist that contains some funny opening videos that I like to start the Blog off with, followed by the music I love. I’m a big fan of the late George Carlin and I found two short out takes of his that I put on this site for you to enjoy. Now George to me knew politics, people, parents and the world to a tee and spoke the truth. The man should have been president but he enlightened people through his shows and concerts. To say George is a potty mouth is true, but I’m going to play some of his takes on my blog for you to be the judge. If the language offends you shut your sound off, if not enjoy his wisdom.

I have to get moving today so I’ll be back on Friday with my weekend wishes. Have a great day and as always thank you for stopping by and reading. Comments are always welcomed.

THE LAST DAY OF AUGUST IS SUMMER'S END

SPEAKIES: BEFORE MY REGULAR POST COMES ON, THE LAST DAY OF AUGUST ALWAYS REMINDED ME OF THE LAST DAY OF SUMMER. SO ENJOY 2 TUNES I PICKED OUT FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE.

I'M BACK

Hello Speakies:

Thought I’d stop by and say hello, nothing major to report on today. Today is “CHEER UP THE LONELY DAY”, so if you know someone lonely or in the hospital or a nursing home, stop by and pay a visit. The smile on their face and the joy in their hearts will give you a feeling like nothing in the world.

Today is also “CONVENIENCE STORE DAY.” The first 7-11 Store was started in 1927 in Dallas, Texas when an employee of the Southland Ice Company, Joe C. Thompson, started selling milk, eggs and bread from an ice house. I still miss the old WaWa store back in Trenton, great coffee and terrific hoagies made to order.

As far as food goes we also celebrate “NATIONAL BLUEBERRY MUFFIN DAY.” My favorite kind of muffin, big, moist and filled with tons of blueberries. Add a nice cup of coffee and that will start my day off fine.

JoeyZ has a household hint for you today; ever get tar on your car? Rub some mayo on the tar, wait for about 10 minutes and rub it off gently with a soft cloth. Have a great day.

QUICK HELLO

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:

HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT WEEKEND, SORRY JUST MAKING A QUICK STOP TO SAY HI. FEELING A LITTLE UNDER THE WEATHER TODAY, SO I THINK I'LL GIVE THE BRAIN A LITTLE REST. HAVE A GREAT DAY.

LET IT GO AND GOBBLE

Good Morning Guys and Dolls:

Not very much in holidays to talk about today except if you are a YO-YO fan, the American version was started in 1928. The other holiday is “LET IT GO DAY”, meaning pack up all your problems and worries and ship them off for a day. There is not much going on in Central Florida except for the heat, no rain and the Casey Anthony trial for those who are familiar with it.

June is also “TURKEY LOVERS MONTH.” I like turkey but usually on Thanksgiving Day with all the trimmings. I prefer a couple nice slices of white breast meat, mash potatoes with gravy, stuffing and not that cornbread stuff, it has to be soft made with bread and all the rest of the good stuff that goes in it. Vegetable wise is a tough one for me, string beans, pearl onions and stuffed mushrooms. Add on a little sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce and you will have made a turkey lover out of me. Now if I’m out and in the mood for an open face sandwich I would have to choose an open face roast beef sandwich over a turkey one, sorry gobble lovers. So if you are a turkey lover, have some tonight, either at a local diner that always has turkey on the menu, buy some roasted turkey lunch meat or grab a TV dinner and enjoy.

I’m going to make it a short post today, have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO MY FAMILY FOR A GREAT DAY

Good Monday Morning Speakies:

Trusting you all had a great weekend and all you Dads out there a great day. I had a great day, I received a call from my younger son and his lovely wife Sam wishing me the best, later I received a call from my little granddaughter wishing me a Happy Father’s Day and telling me all about her trip to Bush Gardens on Saturday with the Brownies. Roe and I spent a lovely day together; I even took a nap in my chair before my son Joe and his lovely wife Elizabeth came over for a sandwich and potato salad feast along with chocolate covered strawberries. We played a game of Quelf and several games of Mexican Poker. Truly a great day and evening for JoeyZ. Thanks for the root beer barrels and my old time Phillies cap.

Today is “ICE CREAM SODA DAY.” An ice cream soda or float is a drink that consists of one or more scoops of ice cream in a soft drink or in a mixture of flavored syrup and carbonated water. I would have to say my favorite would be the old time Root Beer Float with vanilla ice cream and I haven’t had one in years. There was a place called Brunswick Drug Store where I lived and as a teenager we all hung out at the soda fountain. One of the guys Charlie who worked behind the counter whipped some great Coke drinks, like Vanilla, Cherry or Lemon Cokes; it was just a fun place to hang in the evenings. Some good old days.

Better get going for today, have a great day and evening and always remember to be careful out there and treat yourself to a nice ice cream soda today.
