SURE HAD SOME FUN ON THURSDAY NIGHT

HELLO GUYS AND DOLLS:

AS MY REGULAR READERS KNOW, I RETIRED IN JULY OF THIS YEAR.  I WORKED FOR REEDY CREEK IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT AT WALT DISNEY WORLD.  ONE CAN CHECK OUT REEDY CREEK ON THE INTERNET SO IT IS NOT A BIG SECRET.  WE WERE THE GOVERNMENT ESTABLISHED BY WALT TO EASE TAX BURDENS ON THE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS BEFORE DISNEY WORLD OPENED.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED CHECK IT THE INFORMATION ON THE NET.

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

THEY SERVED BLUE MARTINI'S IN LIGHTED GLASSES TO KEEP, BEER, SODA AND WINE ALL NIGHT LONG.  ROE LOVED THE GLASSES SO I THINK WE BROUGHT HOME AROUND 7.  I HAD MY MARTINI'S FOR THE YEAR.

WE ENJOYED THE RIDES, STAR TOURS, IN FACT WE WERE THE ONLY ONES ON THE FIRST RIDE AND ENJOYED A SECOND ONE.  TOY STORY SHOOTING GALLERY RIDE AND THE FIRE WORKS AT THE END WAS SPECTACULAR.  WE ENJOYED THE OSBORNE FAMILY LIGHTS WHICH LIT UP THE PARK.  FINALLY WE HAD TO CALL IT A NIGHT AND BELIEVE ME OLD JOEY Z AND ROE SLEPT LIKE BABIES IN A CRIB.  A GREAT PLACE TO WORK FOR AND THE BEST JOB I EVER HAD WAS WITH REEDY CREEK.  MISS ALL THOSE PEOPLE BUT NEVER THE JOB NOW THAT I'M RETIRED.

VINO, NECTAR OF THE GODS

Good Tuesday Speakies:

Hoping your evening was enjoyable and I bid you welcome today. Back in May, Roe and I spent a great vacation at our time share with my best friend Joey G. and his lovely wife Kim. Before they arrived Roe and I did some shopping at a local Publix Market where they had a wine tasting table set up. We tried some of the wines and found them delicious. Now we are not experts on wine but the taste was refreshing and without that after taste. The winery was local and located in Plant City, Florida off of I-4. That evening the four of us drank the wine we purchased and planned a visit to the winery the next day. The name of the winery is Keel and Curley Winery. We tasted 10 wines for a fee and enjoyed everyone. Joey G. bought around 10 bottles to bring back home and of course we needed more for the condo. They make their own blueberry wines and other varieties. Here are just a few of the wines you can find there:

Dry Blueberry
Semi-Dry Blueberry
Sweet Blueberry
Strawberry Riesling
Tangerine Zinfandel and Key Lime to mention a few.

So if you are ever visiting Central Florida and traveling between Orlando and Tampa take the Plant City exit off and treat yourself to some great wines and their interesting shop.

Do you know what happened this date in history, Mt. Vesuvius blew its top, so why not celebrate with a nice glass of wine tonight. Have a great day and evening Guys and Dolls.

GOODBYE LOU BROWN

Sad News Speakies:

For those Speakies who love baseball movies, actor James Gammon passed away on Friday in California of cancer at the age of 70. Famous for his role as Manager Lou Brown in "Major League", he also starred in many movies and as the father on the TV show "Nash Bridges."

Lou is up there now in the Big Leagues, managing those Boys of Summer or selling white wall tires. Rest in peace Jim.

ITS MONDAY BUT THE SUN WILL COME SHINNING THROUGH

Happy, Happy Monday Speakies:

Hoping you all had a great Mother’s Day Weekend and all you Moms out there enjoyed your day to the fullest. We have two holidays today Lupus Day and Windmill Day. Happy Windmill Day to all you Guys and Dolls in Holland.

Being its Monday and probably most of you would rather be home or at some beach resort sitting by the pool with a nice Gin and Tonic, here are a few more choice words to blur out at those who may annoy you today:

How about never? Is never good for you?

I’ll try being nicer if you’ll try being smarter.

I’m already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.

What am I? Flypaper for freaks!

And your crybaby whiny-assed opinion would be?

If I throw a stick, will you leave?

Back off! You’re standing in my aura.

Thank you. We’re all refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view.

And finally - Do I look like a people person?

Better yet Guys and Dolls try to be happy and nice to people I just wanted to make you laugh a little to start your day. Have a good one and like the picture let the sun shine in.

TRIBUTE TO NOODIES

Dear Guys and Dolls:

This is a little tribute to a pet rabbit named Noodies. Noodies belonged to a friend of mine at work named Erin. Erin and I spoke of Noodies everyday, saving the daily newspaper for him to use as his private bathroom. We joked about him constantly, his funny name and the stuff he did. Yesterday was a sad day for Erin; Noodies had to be put to sleep. I know what its like to lose a pet and all I can say to Erin is Noodies is in a better place hopping around with all those other bunnies and having fun so don’t be sad. Rest in peace Noodies.

Who knows Erin he may come back as the next Easter Bunny and make all those little ones very happy.

BITE, BITE, ITCH, ITCH, OH WHAT A PAIN IT IS

Hello Speakies:

I received this information from a biologist friend of mine and thought I would pass it along to all you readers. Mosquito season is about to begin here in Florida and soon coming your way. Here are a few preventive steps to take.

Recommendations for Residents
The type of mosquitoes and their impact on your daily activities will vary, depending on where you live. For instance, in heavily urbanized areas, residents will more likely be affected by pesky container breeders, while in coastal areas the salt marsh mosquito will be most prevalent and annoying. But no matter where we live, there are some general guidelines we can all follow to minimize the incidence of mosquitoes and our exposure to the diseases they transmit:
1. Remove all standing water from your yard by bringing indoors or emptying and cleaning all containers, even very small ones. For example, do not leave toys that can retain water outside; remove saucers from under flower pots; clean or remove pool covers; clean pools and add chlorinated water; cover rain barrels with mosquito proof netting; clean rain gutters and rain spouts.
2. If you need to control adult mosquitoes in your yard, do not apply insecticides yourself. Instead, contact your county public works or environmental health department. Mosquitoes have a long history of developing resistance to insecticides when applied incorrectly.

See I pass along informative stuff too. Don’t get bit.

REST IN PEACE JOHNNY

Guys and Dolls,

A little tribute to a great singer Johnny Maestro who died of cancer late Wednesday in Cape Coral, Florida. He performed the 1958 doo-wop hit "16 Candles" with The Crests and enjoyed a long career with The Brooklyn Bridge. He was often seen performing on the PBS Doo-Wop Specials. We all know 16 Candles, but one of my favorites was "The Angels Listened In", Johnny is singing with them now, rest in peace.

FOR THOSE STOPPING BY, PLEASE READ AND ENJOY THE MUSIC. SEE YOU ALL SOON.

JUST A NICE THURSDAY

Good Day Guys and Dolls:

Hope you all are having a nice Thursday so far, mine is going normal right now. The weather in Central Florida is bright and sunny but on the cool side high only about 60 today. I can feel my ears burning now, betting you Northern Speakies are cursing me out. We have two holidays to celebrate today:

Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day – Good idea.
Battery Day – Do we pay homage to that little pink bunny banging that drum?

I want you to know we haven’t had a history lesson in quite sometime and we won’t today either. I checked my sources and nothing exciting really happened today. We can however say “Happy Birthday” to the following famous people:

John Travolta – Good actor
Yoko Ono – John Lennon’s wife
George Kennedy – Fine actor of Cool Hand Luke, Airport and numerous other films.
Jack Palance – Actor of western fame, he was “Curly” in the “City Slickers.”

Here’s an update on a news story I posted a few months ago. Remember the guy who was slapped in the face by a bear down here. Well Neddy Nordic finally got his day in court yesterday. The judge fined him $200 and gave him 6 months probation and community service for leaving food out. Neddy contended he left the food out for stray cats and was not expecting a visit from Yogi Bear. Go figure it, tries to do something nice for animals and get the book and the real &*%#@*& get off with nothing.

Have a great evening Speakies, be kind to each other and Love is the word.

WARNING, WARNING, DANGER, DANGER. That’s just to get your attention. Breaking news out of Tallahassee, Florida our great state capital. The National Weather Service has advised that a storm moving across Texas will reach the Gulf of Mexico by late tonight and hit northern Florida by Friday morning. There is a 40 to 60% chance of snow accumulating up to an inch. This may also be mixed with rain.

I had to bring this story to you to make those transplants who still love snow they still have a chance of seeing it. Have a good night Snowbirds.

THEY ARE HERE

Yes Speakies as I am writing this GIANT SQUIDS are invading the coast of California. Fishermen up and down the coast are requesting twilight fishing trips to nab the invaders. Rumors are that thousands of Italian women are also heading west to bring back those squids for their homemade Calamare. How I wish GIANT MUSSELS would invade the Florida coast so I can have decent Mussels Marinara with some hot Italian bread for dipping and a nice glass of wine to wash it all down.

I think I'm just going to close my eyes and dream a little dream.
