WEEKEND WISHES SPEAKIES

HAPPY FRIDAY GUYS AND DOLLS,

Every Friday, I wish you all my best for a great day and weekend to come.   Now for some celebrations today and also for the rest of the weekend.

TEXAS LOVES THE CHILDREN DAY- I sure to hope they do, some Texans love guns more and succeeding from the US.  I know a lot of Texans do not agree with the arms issue, but let me have my say on this celebrated day.  Put the guns away; hug, kiss and keep those children close to your hearts.  When the US plans to retake Normandy Beach or Guadalcanal, I'll let you know.

COCA-COLA INVENTED - Coke is produced by the Coca-Cola Company of Atlanta, Georgia, since 1944.  It was originally patent as a medicine invented by John Pemberton.

VIETNAM VETERANS DAY - I honor those today who fought in that war and also those who lost their lives.  I was part of that war and remember the horror stories we heard each day.  I was lucky to visit the Memorial in Washington, DC.  If you ever have a chance to visit the memorial and find the name of a relative or friend that lost their life, bring a pencil and paper to trace their name.

NATIONAL MOM AND POP BUSINESS DAY - These are the businesses we miss the most today.  The local ethnic restaurants, tomato pie joints, bakeries, deli's and whatever else businesses you can remember.  I have so many memories of all those places long gone. Keep them in your hearts for they may never return.

On Saturday is "NO HOMEWORK DAY."  Sorry kids tomorrow is Saturday, tell your teachers that Joey Z said no homework on Monday.

This weekend we also celebrate "NATIONAL FARM WORKERS DAY AND CLAMS ON THE HALF SHELL."  Doing farm labor is a hard task and not many of us would even think of doing it when we are nearly broke.  Before high school, I worked at a farmer's market and made several trips by truck to my employer's farm.  We had to load the corn, tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables he sold.  The work was long and hard and the pay 50 cents an hour.  Doing this taught me a lesson in life, respect those who work so hard to feed you and your family.

I have tried clams on the half shell several times.  My favorite is Clams Casino.  The best place I ever ate them was at Crecco's Restaurant in Trenton, NJ.  Have a great day and a wonderful weekend.  Go pick some vegetables and eat some clams.

HAPPY THURSDAY GUYS AND DOLLS

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:

I found an interesting monthly holiday in March called, "HUMORISTS ARE ARTISTS MONTH".  Being that I wrote a book containing satirical material along with writing this blog, I consider myself an artist. Hey, I have to consider myself something so allow me to enjoy the day and just humor me.

HOT TUB DAY - Having your own hot tub is great but I dislike sharing those hot tubs on cruise ships or resorts.  With your own hot tub you know who goes in and what you won't catch in the form of germs or other things that make your skin crawl.  I've seen kids at resorts in hot tubs and not caring if they just finished playing in the sand then jump right into the tub.   Parents your children should not even be allowed in an adult hot tub.  That is all I'm saying about this subject like it or not.

WEED APPRECIATION DAY - At one time in my life I did appreciate a little weed once in a great moon but that was back in the late 60's and early 70's.  I don't appreciate weeds in my lawn but with the dry weather and no rain, weeds are the only green things that are growing now.

ESKIMO PIE DAY - Eskimo Pie is a brand name for vanilla ice cream covered with chocolate, then wrapped in foil.  It is sold by various ice cream manufacturers in different shapes and names.  A good summer treat for the entire family.  What the heck, have some tonight.

SOMETHING ON A STICK DAY - Are we talking about food on a stick or something else?  I'll go for the food idea.  Now a stick can also mean a skewer.  Roe on occasions makes shrimp on a wooden stick with a Teriyaki glaze.  One can also classify Sheska Bobs as food on a stick served with a variety of meat or a roasted pig perhaps (but on a real larger stick).  One can just have veggies, like onions, green peppers or squash on a skewer cooking on the grill.  For dessert marshmallows over a camp fire is a favorite to many.

Enough for today Guy and Dolls, I wish you all a pleasant day.

HAPPY HUMP DAY SPEAKIES

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS,

I would like to thank Zippy for filling in yesterday for me and doing his special Quips. March is ending shortly and soon April will be here with it's showers.  We really need the rain here in Florida, it is bone dry until the wet season returns in May.  Let's check out the holidays for today and also the last week of March.

This week we celebrate "NATIONAL CLEANING WEEK."  I have to tell you I am a cleaning freak and that upsets Roe at times but that is my phobia and I live with it.  I like things in order and nothing out of place, but that is me.  Roe and I share the work around the house and do not get in each others way which is nice.  Once in awhile I will pull a boner and hear about it.  So Guys and Dolls, share the cleaning duties or for you Guys who don't do any cleaning, get out of Dodge as soon as possible.

VIAGRA DAY - For those Guys who take it, I am happy for you and your Doll.  That is all I'm saying on this subject.  On my e-mails, I receive so many Viagra comments which I just delete because they are annoying.

QUIRKY COUNTRY SONG TITLES - Zippy covered this subject yesterday, so read his post for some funny titles and get a good laugh.

PHOTOGRAPHY DAY -  My wife Roe and my Daughter-In-Law's Elizabeth and Samantha are photo freaks.  They will take pictures or videos of anything that walks, crawls and whatever else the subject does.  This is a great thing to do, so many magic moments are captured on film or tape. I'm glad they do it.

SPANISH PAELLA DAY - Paella is a Valencian rice dish that originated in the mid-19th century Spain near Lake Albufera, a lagoon on the east coast.  There are three widely known types of paella, Valencian paella, seafood paella and mixed paella.  Check out the recipes on how to make this delicious dish for your family.

Have a wonderful day and please be careful out there.

GOOD MORNING FELLOW ZIPSTERS,

I was trying my best to provide you with some important information and real facts however, they did not materialize in my brain today.  I bring you now True Country Music Song Titles and away we go.

Zipsters, you know Joey Z and I love Charlie Chan movies, so today I present to you some more of his famous aphorisms.

Cannot see contents of nut, until shell is cracked.

Caution very good life insurance.

Courage greatest devotion to those we love.

Thanks for reading my post today and I hope you fellow Zipsters have a great day and a wonderful evening.

HAPPY MONDAY, MARCH 25

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS,

Hope you all had a great weekend and once again eager to start the new week.  Zippy will be around in this last week in March and give you some of his famous Zip's Quips.  I hope he is preparing his work and not sleeping on the job.  Today, let us look at birthdays, passing's and other stuff that happened today.

BORN TODAY:

1133 - Henry II, King of England, one of the characters sung about by Herman's Hermit's, "I'M HENRY THE EIGHT, I AM."  Sorry Henry you were only number two.

1872 - Vito Pardo - Italian Sculptor, had to mention the Italians for Roe.  Love that name Vito.

1922 - Eileen Ford - Model agency boss.

1934 - Johnny Burnette - Singer "You're 16, Your Beautiful and You Are Mine."  A song from the past to remember.

1942 - Aretha Franklin - All I can say is, "Miss Soul."

1976 - Monica Croscicka-Wnetrzak - Miss Poland and Miss Universe 1996.  Yeah Baby, Go Poland.

UP OR DOWN IN THE CLOUDS TODAY:

1969 - Alan Mowbray - A fine actor on the silver screen in the 1930's and 1940's.  If you watch Turner Movie Classics you will remember his face.  If not, go to IMDB, the movie web and check out the various movies he played in.

1975 - King Faisal of Saudi Arabia is assassinated by his nephew.  Keep your family closer Faisal.

STUFF FOR TODAY:

1863 - The first Army Medal of Honor is presented.

1896 - The modern day Olympics begin in Athens, Greece.

1945 - The US 1'st Army breaks-out of bridgehead near Remegan.  There is a great World War II movie about this, check it out.

1951 - The Tony Awards are presented to Guys and Dolls and Rose Tattoo.  Proud of you Guys and Dolls of my Website.

Enough of this stuff, let's talk food for today.  Today is Lobster Newburg Day.  I never ate that particular dish of lobster, but maybe one day I will.  So Speakies have some tonight for dinner or take your Doll out and have a wonderful evening.

WEEKEND WISHES GUYS AND DOLLS

HAPPY FRIDAY TO MY SPEAKIES,

As always I wish you a great Friday and the best for the weekend ahead.  The weather up North should be taking a turn for the better but March is a funny weather month and I hope the warmth should be with you.  Let's see what is happening today.

NATIONAL GOOF OFF DAY - That's for me now, retirement is a goof off all year long.  Let me tell you a secret, goof off all you want today, it's allowed.  Enjoy it but just remind your bosses Joey Z said it is Okay to do.

ROLLER COASTER DAY - I have never been a big fan of roller coasters.  Roe and my son Joey are roller coaster crazies.  Roe not so much these days, but that son of ours loves them.  He has been to several parks and has ridden the best made.  Happy that you enjoyed them the Joey and I know Elizabeth likes them too.  The most scary roller coaster that I have ridden was the Wild Mouse at Seaside Heights, NJ, which is no longer exists on the pier due to Hurricane Sandy.  Another one, not considered a roller coaster; but the Tower of Terror at Disney is one that really scared me with those sudden drops.  So for all you coaster fans get out and enjoy the coasters near you over this weekend or the weeks to come.

NATIONAL BADMINTON DAY - Badminton is a racquet sport played by singles or doubles who take positions on an opposite half of a court, just like tennis.  The players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their rackets over the net to score the points.  It was a fun game to play for me at picnics or in our backyard as a kid and 21 was the winning number to get to win the match.

WORLD DAY FOR WATER - I remember watching an old Humphrey Bogart movie called "Sahara", a World War II movie about the desert and a tank crew along with other survivors trying to find water to live.  I hope the world never suffers from the lack of water, the results would be too much to imagine.

NATIONAL BAVARIAN CREPE DAY - To me they are filled pancakes.  Give me a cream filled donut any day.

Have a great weekend.

HAPPY MARCH 21

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS,

Thanks to Zippy for filling in for me yesterday, it is great having a partner in crime that can make you laugh.  There are some holidays I would like to honor today, so lets get started.

NATIONAL DANCE DAY - Roe and I loved to dance back in the 70's in the various clubs we went to and even in my apartment.  Disco was the rage back then and we enjoyed it.  Once in awhile today we do a few spins in our house only to a slower pace I wish we could do more.  Roe can still shake those hips.  Dancing with Roe was one of my favorite memories, she knew what to do and I just followed.  My Dad loved the Polka and I can still see him dancing with Mom at all those Polish weddings.  When Roe and I were married, she had one request from my Dad to do a slow dance with her.  He did it and made her day.  Thanks Dad.

NATIONAL SINGLE PARENTS DAY - My heart goes out to you for trying to raise your children the best you can.  Be proud this day and every day.

NATIONAL TEENAGER DAY - Hey we were all there once and being a teenager is not easy for them or for you.  Try to understand them, reach out and advise them on the right and wrongs of life.  Let them be teenagers and give them your trust.  I know it's hard at times but we all have to do the best we can.  I say to you teenagers be grateful to your parents, be careful, choose wisely and enjoy your years.

NATIONAL FLOWER DAY - Okay Guys this is the day to go out and buy some flowers for your Dolls.  End of subject.

As far as food goes today we honor the "FRENCH BREAD."  Roe and I love crispy bread that makes a great French Dip sandwich, which we crave once in awhile.  I have to say we prefer those Italian loaves of bread they are delicious.  I'm sorry Frenchmen, but Italian bread and hard rolls are our favorites.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day and evening.  Remember what you read today and apply it to your lives.

HELLO ZIPSTERS

GOOD MORNING FELLOW ZIPSTERS,

Thank you Joey Z for allowing me to post my comments to your readers today.  Before I indulge in some of my quips, lets look at a few celebrations today.

PROPOSAL DAY - All right fellow Zipster Guys, if you purchased that engagement ring, take your lovely Doll out for a great dinner, get down on your knees and ask her to be your wife.  You remember that question you must ask, "Will you marry me?"  I guess it could also apply to business deals but for me forget about it, today is for lovers and love in general.

ACT HAPPY DAY - Knowing Joey Z he tries but sometimes fails, he who opens his mouth too much before thinking of what he is saying.  Joey Z, watch yourself and your mouth.  The same goes for you other Zipsters out there male or female.

Now for the food of today - "RAVIOLI DAY."  A favorite of mine and the Joey Z family.  His wife Roe makes a delicious dish of ravioli with her blends of sauce, spices and meat.  I have enjoyed those dinners over his house many times.

I think I would like to post a few Charlie Chan quotes for you to enjoy before I leave.

Bad men leave mark where they go.
Bait only good if fish bite on same.
Beauty of Poppy conceal sting of death.
Best place for skeleton is in family closet.
Charming company turn lowly sandwich into rich banquet.
Confucious say, "No man is poor who have worthy son."

It has been my pleasure to post my comments today, thanks for stopping by and have a Zipster of a day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN

THIS IS FOR OUR GRANDSON IAN,

IAN GRAND MOM ROE AND POP-POP WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY.  MAY YOUR DAY BE FILLED WITH HAPPINESS AND LOTS OF PRESENTS.

WE LOVE YOU VERY MUCH AND WILL SEE YOU SOON.  MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU IAN.

HAPPY SAINT JOSEPH'S DAY

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS,

Today is Saint Joseph's Day as celebrated in Western Christianity.  Saint Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, his feast day has the rank of a solemnity in the Roman Catholic Church.  It is a feast in the provinces of the Anglican Communion and a feast or festival in the Lutheran Church.  Saint Joseph's Day is the Patronal Feast Day for Poland.  It is also Father's Day in some Catholic countries, mainly Spain, Portugal and Italy.  So I say to my son Joseph and all my Guys out there with the same name, "HAPPY SAINT JOSEPH' DAY".  I want to say "Thank you Danuta", for always remembering my name day at work, she is such a sweet person.  Us Polaks know our stuff.

This month we celebrate the First Day of Spring which usually falls between March 19 and March 24.  This year it falls on March 20.  Start getting those flowers ready to plant, which reminds me to do the same.  It is one of the labors of my life, small but still enjoyed the most.  We also honor "EARTH DAY" this month.  For those who do not believe in saving our planet all I have to say is, "DON'T BE AN ASS."  Global warming is effecting this Earth of ours and we should do as much as possible to prevent further pollution and destruction.

NATIONAL SPRING WEEK FEVER - Guys and Dolls gone wild will hit our beaches soon with most of the colleges celebrating Spring Break.  All I have to say is stay safe, too many news stories last year of binge drinking, car accidents and students falling to their death over a hotel railings.

POULTRY DAY - That's right honor the chicken, turkey and ducks we all eat year around.  Of the mentioned by favorite is the Turkey and usually I eat it just once a year on Thanksgiving or around that date.  I love chicken soup but had enough chicken meals in my life.  Forget duck, had it for dinner on a cruise, it was too greasy for me and sent it back.  Now Peking Duck is a different story.

THE SWALLOWS RETURN TO SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO DAY - The American Cliff Swallow is a migratory bird that spends its winters in Goya, Argentina but makes the 6,000 mile trek north to the warmer climes of the American Southwest in the spring time.  According to legend, the birds, who have visited the San Juan Capistrano area, the first took refuge at the Mission.  The Mission's location is ideal for the swallows to nest with a constant supply of water and bugs.  The young birds are well protected inside the ruins of the old stone church.

There Speakies a little history this day.  I may turn over the writing tomorrow to the Zip, if he can come up with some of his quips.  Have a wonderful day and great evening.

GOOD MONDAY MORNING SPEAKIES

Hope you all had a pleasant weekend and you are ready for the new week ahead.  I have to make this a short post due to a doctor appointment soon.

March is "NATIONAL KITE MONTH."  As a young boy, my Dad purchased a kite for me.  We assembled the kite per the instructions, tied on the string and placed those rags in position.  We were ready for flight.  Dad drove me over to the Farmer's Market parking lot which was empty at the time and I wanted to be just like Benjamin Franklin sailing my kite so high.  It was a nice windy day.  I ran with the kite which rose towards the blue skies above climbing higher and higher until it got caught on the telephone lines.  The kite was gone forever but the memory of it's flight still lingers in my mind as part of my childhood.  Roe, the boys and I flew a kite here in Florida one Saturday it had heart but never made the altitude. Maybe I will try one day again and let my grandchildren do all the running.

NATIONAL ANONYMOUS GIVING WEEK, is celebrated in this third week of March.  Its a good feeling to give to those in need and it surely should warm your hearts.  Now on the lighter side, I am willing to accept some money from a wealthy anonymous millionaire.  I can dream can't I?  All in fun Guys and Dolls.

FORGIVE MOM AND DAD DAY - Whatever occurred between you and your parents, today is the day to make it right.  Put away those hard feelings, pickup the phone or pay them a visit before it is too late. I know I  had some issues with my Mom, and was happy to clear them before she passed on.  You do the same.

Have a great day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM

THIS POST IS DEDICATED TO MY MOM WHO PASSED AWAY IN 2001.  "HAPPY BIRTHDAY."  MOM; ROE, THE BOYS AND I THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DID FOR US WHILE YOU WERE ALIVE.  YOU WERE THE PERFECT BABY SITTER FOR JOEY AND JEFF AND THEY STILL HOLD YOU CLOSE IN THEIR HEARTS AND STILL REMEMBER THE CHICKEN ROLL YOU ALWAYS BOUGHT FOR THEM.

MAY YOUR BIRTHDAY IN HEAVEN BE A HAPPY ONE AND PLEASE KNOW THAT WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU.

LOVE,

JOE, ROE, JOEY AND JEFF

BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH

WEEKEND WISHES GUYS AND DOLLS,

Today we celebrate the "THE IDES OF MARCH."  It is the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C.  He was stabbed approximately 23 times to death by members of the Roman Senate consisting of a group of 60 conspirators, led by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus, to Plutarch.  It is said that of the Ides of March, the sea succumbs to chaos and the full moon brings high tides.  This gives the Ides of March a mysterious quality.

According to to Plutarch, a seer had foreseen that Caesar would be harmed not later than the Ides of March.  On Caesar's way to the Theatre of Pompey (where his assassination would take place), Caesar met the seer and joked, "The Ides of March have come.", meaning that the prophecy had not been fulfilled.  The seer replied, "Aye Caesar; but not gone."  All this led to the saying "Beware the Ides of March."  Joey Z's advice to you today is beware; Et Tu Brutus, meaning you too Brutus.  Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.  Some information for all you Speakies?

Today we also celebrate "ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE KIDS DAY." - In my eyes all kids are incredible for being what they are.  Some are slower learners and others are on target, but yet all incredible in my eyes.  I have to favor my grandchildren Nina and Ian, little smarties.  Keep up the good work.  Help your children all you can, they grow up too fast and then it is too late.

On Sunday we celebrate "ST. PATRICK'S DAY AND ALSO NATIONAL GREEN BEER DAY."
To all my Irish readers I say, "ERIN GO BRAGH, TRANSLATED MEANS IRELAND FOREVER."

Celebrate the day with all your customs, go easy on the green beer and be careful on the roadways going home. Enjoy the weekend Speakies.

THURSDAY IS HERE, SPEAKIES

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS,

Making this a short one today Speakies, you remember that I have my Soup Cook-Off to attend today.  Here are a few holidays to ponder about on this day.

SAVE A SPIDER DAY - Yes Guys and Dolls we have good ones and bad ones.  In Florida, the most dangerous are the Brown Recluse and the Widow Spider.  Some other ones in the US and the world are the Black Widow, the Yellow Sac Spider and the Fringed Ornament Tarantula.  Beware of those spiders Guys and Dolls.

CHECK YOUR BATTERIES DAY - This includes car batteries, remote controls, flashlights, fire alarms, toys, radios and your thermostats to name a few.  I'm sure there are many other things that you own to check for battery changes.  So today is the day to do so.

NATIONAL POTATO CHIP DAY - My favorite snack food.  I like pretzels, nachos and other assorted snacks but my favorite is still the potato chip.  Wise Potato Chips, Charles Chips, Lays Potato Chips, Utz Potato Chips and any other brand that may come my way.  Now, I try to eat only Wise's No Salt Chips, they have a great taste and you have no idea of all the salt and sodium you are missing.  What goes good with chips are red salsa or French Onion dip.  Got to have some tonight for sure.

HAVE A GREAT DAY AND BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY SPEAKIES

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS,

Going to make this a short post, I have a pacemaker test today and I will be driving to the City Beautiful, Orlando, Florida, right!!!  Better news is that I will be attending my former place of employment tomorrow for their annual "Soup Cook-off Day."  I missed the chili cook-off but soup is  a favorite of mine and the group makes a batch of delicious varieties of soup of which I shall mention in another post.

OPEN YOUR UMBRELLA INDOOR TODAY - I've heard that it is bad lack so I open mine in the screen room which is still considered to me outdoors.  Don't let the spirits get you.

EAR MUFF DAY - How many of us wore those ear muffs as a kid against the cold weather?  I know I had several pairs throughout my younger days.  I even remember the colors, brown, blue and black.  The only thing I warn you about today is that if you see a person wearing ear muffs on a hot day, BEWARE.

GOOD SAMARITAN DAY - Do all you can to help those in need.  We have a Good Samaritan Community where we live and they accept old clothes and items the people need.  Those who reside there are elderly, some in perfect health and some in need of constant care.  Those items are sold to the public to help them with expenses for the community.  God Bless and keep up the good work.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO UNCLE SAM - Old Mr. Whiskers was born in 1830 and has been an inspiration to us all.  Uncle Sam needed you in World War I, World War II and in all the conflicts our men and women have fought for it. Happy Birthday Uncle Sam and remember his most famous cry, "I WANT YOU BALBOA."  Just kidding!

Tomorrow is "NATIONAL POTATO CHIP DAY", and my comments will be heard.  Have a great day.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

HAPPY TUESDAY GUYS AND DOLLS

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES,

Welcome to Tuesday, March 12, 2013.  As usual Joey Z always hopes you are all having a great day so far and may it continue throughout the evening as well.  We are into the second week of March and let's see the holidays we honor this week and day.

BUBBLE GUM WEEK - The first bubble gum that comes to my mind is Bazooka Bubble Gum with good old Bazooka Joe with his tale or message inside the wrapper.  We had Double Bubble as well and that was a favorite of mine too.  Not only did we have bubble gum here are some old gums that still are being sold see if you remember them.  Beeman's, Black Jack, C. Howards Scented Gum (in that purple package) and of course Clove Gum.  Makes me want to go to the net and order some.

PULMONARY REHAB WEEK - Roe and I know the meaning of that, we still see our Pulmonary Doctor on a regular basis.  If you are still smoking, stop it now save your life for yourself and family.

NATIONAL OLDER PERSONS EMPLOYMENT WEEK -  I think if you are retirement age and can help on a part-time basis that is great.  My only objection is to the older workers who have been on a job for over 40 years, not allowing the younger workers to move up.  I have my personal reasons for saying this and my opinion will not change one bit.

FIRST LIBRARY OPENED -  Libraries can be traced as far back as 2600 B.C.  Ancient libraries were found in Egypt, China, The Library of Alexandria, the Roman Empire and during the Renaissance Period.  The first known US public library was in Boston, founded in 1854.

FOOD HOLIDAY FOR TODAY - Today we honor the Baked Scallop.  Roe and I love scallops grilled, baked, seasoned with bread crumbs and fried and also in Roe's Christmas fish stew. There are many varieties of scallops, ranging from the tiny, bay scallop to the larger, less tender deep sea scallops.  Beware of some unscrupulous markets that have been known to substitute shark for scallops.  Beware if the scallops are all of exactly uniform in size and shape, this is an indication of a fake scallop.  Speakies enjoy those scallops today and have some for me.

HAVE A GREAT DAY AND EVENING.

GOOD MONDAY MORNING SPEAKIES

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS,

Hoping you all had a great weekend filled with love, food and fun.  Let's check out our holidays for today.

GENEALOGY DAY - This is a great hobby for many people and I wish them all the luck in the world tracing their heritage.  Being Polish and like many other nationalities, there were so many name changes as people entered Ellis Island I didn't know where to start.  I found my one grandmother's and grandfather's information but after that a blank.  Poland had so many villages some now are non-existent, so that was the end of my search.  Good luck with your searches.

JOHNNY APPLESEED DAY - His real name was John Chapman and he died in 1845.

WORSHIP OF TOOLS DAY -  I own a few tools but truly I'm not a handy man, so I can not partake in today's worship.

FRANKENSTEIN'S BIRTHDAY - Victor Frankenstein is a fictional character that appeared in Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus.  He was a scientist who after studying chemical processes and the decay of living beings gains a personal insight into the creation of life.  The original movie is great but I also like the Mel Brooks movie version, "Young Frankenstein."

To finish Monday off, I thought you would enjoy a few new funny book titles.

Battle Axes by Tom A. Hawk
Boring Midwestern Cities by Cole Lumbus
Cab Galloway's Garden by Heidi Ho
Candle Vaulting by Jack B. Nimble
Chinese Apathy by Hu Cares
Dirty Walls by Hoo Flung Dung

Have a great day Guys and Dolls.

WEEKEND WISHES

HAPPY FRIDAY SPEAKIES:

Joey Z stopping by to wish all my Guys and Dolls a great Friday and hopefully a great weekend.
Let's see the holidays we celebrate today and this weekend in general.

AUNT'S DAY - I had two favorite aunts one named Louise and the other Josephine.  Josephine passed away many years ago.  She was kind and sweet to Roe and me.  My aunt Louise I believe is still alive, but I haven't heard from her in years, maybe one day I will.  Time erases memories and that is sad; that's all I have to say about Aunt's Day.

PLANT A FLOWER DAY - I love to plant my flowers and hope this year will be a good one for me to decorate some of the landscaping of our house.

LEARN WHAT YOUR NAME MEANS - My first name is Joseph which originated from the Hebrew, meaning "GOD WILL INCREASE."  The standard Hebrew name Yosef has numerous names used mostly in English, French, German and Polish to name a few.  In the Old Testament, Joseph is Jacob's eleventh son and Rachel's first.  In the New Testament, Joseph is the husband of Mary and the father of Jesus.  I like the Polish way of pronouncing it "Jozef."  Check out the meaning of your first names on various websites.

March 9 is "NATIONAL CRAB-MEAT DAY." - The last time I ate crab was Christmas Eve with my son Joey, his wife Elizabeth and Roe.  We enjoyed King Crab legs with butter and Elizabeth showed us the way to get all the meat you can out of them.  I still want to try a soft shell crab sandwich and I know my son Jeff knows of a place by him that serves it right.

March 10, we honor the name Mario, which I think is a great name.  We almost named one of our sons Mario but he did not look like the name would fit him.  My daughter-in-law, Samantha's brother's name is Mario.  So for all you Mario's out there celebrate your names and raise a toast to me.

Have a great weekend, see you soon.

I WANT TO THANK THE THREE SPEAKIES WHO READ MY POST TODAY

HELLO SPEAKIES,

SOME WHY'S AND HUMOROUS DEFINITIONS FROM ZIPPY

HELLO FELLOW ZIPSTERS:

I'm giving Joey Z the day off today and want to write about some amusing why's of life and some humor found in definitions.  Let's get started right now.

AMUSING WHY'S OF LIFE:

Why are they called apartments when they're all stuck together?
Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are dead?
Why does round pizza come in a square box?
Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?
Why is dyslexic such a hard word to spell?
Why are outlets electrical but inlets are geographical?
Why do you believe it when someone tells you there are four billion stars, but you always check when you see the wet paint sign?

SOME FUNNY DEFINITIONS:

Administrivia - All of the annoying little tasks associated with your job.
Aflockalpse - When all those birds fell out of the sky.
Arbitrator - A cook that leaves Arby's to work at McDonalds.
Avoidable - What a bullfighter tries to do.
Balderdash - A rapidly receding hairline.
Buoyant - A male insect.
Burglarize - What a crook sees with.

I have to leave you with a food thought for March, Joey Z would be upset if I didn't.  March is "NATIONAL NOODLE MONTH."  I know for a fact Joey Z's favorite is the medium size noodles or the Pennsylvania Dutch noodles used to make chicken soup.  I heard Roe makes a great secret mac and cheese he loves too.  Hungry for some noodles, this month is the one for you.  Have a great day and thanks Joey Z for allowing me to write the post today.

HAPPY HUMP DAY SPEAKIES

GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS,

Hope you all had a pleasant evening and here is a little knowledge from Joey Z, that I would like to share with you Speakies today, March 6.

ALAMO DAY - On this day March 6, 1836, the Texian defenders of the Alamo were defeated by the Mexican Army led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana. The Alamo Mission was located near San Antonio de Bexar.  The Alamo's defenders consisted of 13 native born Texians, 11 from Mexican descent, 41 born in Europe, 2 Jews, 2 Blacks and the remainder were Americans from different states.

FROZEN FOOD DAY -Whether you prefer ice cream, the good old TV dinners, pizza or other frozen specialties today is Frozen Food Day.  It was proclaimed March 6, 1984, by President Ronald Reagan.  The Father of Frozen Foods, Clarence Birdseye, found a way to flash-freeze foods and we  have been serving them up since then.

NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CHEESE CAKE DAY -  I haven't eaten a good piece of cheese cake in a long time.  I usually pass on desserts at restaurants but this one sounds tempting.  One of our local grocery stores serves a variety of cheese cakes that are decent.  Order yourselves a slice today and enjoy.

I have to say "Happy Birthday" to the Oreo Cookie, first appearing in 1912.  Don't try to fool me I know you Guys and Dolls dipped those cookies in milk and some still do it now.  I like to dip cookies in a hot cup of coffee makes them so soft especially the chocolate filled kind.  Now for some other birthdays we honor today.

1785 - Karol Kazimierz Kurpinski - He was one of the most revered composers before Frederic Chopin and helped to lay down the foundations of a national style for the Polish music of the Romantic Period.  He also contributed to the development of Polish opera.  He died in Warsaw at the age of 72.  I always have to honor the Polish you understand.

1906 - Lou Costello - Part of the comedy team of Abbott and Costello, stars both of TV and the Silver Screen.  "HEY ABBOTT."

1923 - Ed McMahon - Host of the Johnny Carson Show.  "HERE'SSSSSSS JOHNNY."

Have a wonderful Guys and Dolls and be careful out there.

FROM THE MOUTH OF THE ZIP, SOME MORE QUIPS

HAPPY TUESDAY FELLOW ZIPSTERS,

I'm sending you more zips to fill your day with a little laughter and knowledge.  Hope you enjoy.

ISN'T THIS THE TRUTH:

You can't buy love, but you pay heavily for it.
It doesn't matter how often a married man changes his job, he still ends up with the same boss.
A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.
I believe we should all pay our taxes with a smile.  I tried but they wanted cash.
Having one child makes you a parent; having two makes you a referee.
Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others.

NOW FOR SOME HEALTH TIPS ON WATER:

Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue and I thought it was beer.
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79% and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

These are all facts I have read and just wanted to pass them along to you readers.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS:

Odds of dating a millionaire - 215 to 1.
Odds of dating a supermodel - 88,000 to 1.
Odds of catching a ball at a major league game - 563 to 1.
Odds of a person in the military be awarded the Medal of Honor - 11,000 to 1.
Odds of having your identity stolen - 200 to 1.

Well Zipsters I will return soon with some more quips to make your day.  Have a great one.

ALL RIGHT HAMBURGER LOVERS

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:

Hope you all had a great weekend and now some holidays for this month and today.  Over the weekend we celebrated "SILLY PUTTY DAY."  I'm sure everyone had Silly Putting as a kid, you could form it into a ball bounce it all over the house driving your parents crazy and make them sorry they bought it for you.   One of the best uses was to press it on the Sunday colored newspaper cartoons and make a copy of your favorite character.  Three cheers for Silly Putty and make sure you pick one up for the little ones and yourself to enjoy .

This month we celebrate "INTERNATIONAL HAMBURGER AND PICKLE MONTH."  I love a good burger but top mine with cheese and a slice of tomato.  Pickles on the side will do fine, I like the separation of flavors.  So for lunch today, go out and grab a burger.  The best burgers I have eaten were home made by my wife, especially her melts.  Eating out, Five Guys is a favorite of ours.

This food birthday is meant for my reader the Skipster for on this day back in 1824, Cadbury Chocolates were first made.  Skip ,with Easter coming soon, hope the Cadbury Bunny brings you a big stash.

What can I say for all the women and men who are involved in scrap booking.  Today is your day for we celebrate, "INTERNATIONAL SCRAP BOOKING INDUSTRY DAY."  Big bucks for those companies that manufacture all the equipment and supplies used.  My wife, daughter-in-law and their friends are involved with scrap booking as a hobby and really enjoy it.  Roe makes some beautiful cards and I'm always after her to start selling them, but like she said, "it would not be a hobby."

NATIONAL POUND CAKE DAY - Pound cakes are the best!  Give me a nice slice of moist pound cake topped with powdered sugar and a good cup of coffee and I'm in heaven.  I can eat that every morning for breakfast or as a snack at night.

Well Guys and Dolls, have a great day and one great evening bouncing Silly Putty around the house and eating pound cake.

SO SORRY

HELLO SPEAKIES:

I just read on Yahoo and had to pass it along to you my Guys and Dolls, that Justin Bieber said, "he had a bad 19th birthday."  All I have to say is tough shi-tStuff like this news gets into "My Gander Up File."  Some kids don't even get a birthday party and better yet some never knew the meaning of a birthday celebration.  This sort of stuff turns my gut.  Amen and So Sorry.

WELCOME MARCH GUYS AND DOLLS

HAPPY FRIDAY GUYS AND DOLL:

Today we celebrate the first day of March 2013.  I hope it is a good day for all of you with a great weekend to follow.  March is also known as "Mustache Month."  It is known that groups of men, students or friends try to grow the perfect well groomed mustache over a fixed time period.  When I was in the hospital, I could not shave due to blood thinners so I am now the proud owner of a mustache and goatee.  So, if you guys want a facial hair challenge this is the month to give it a try.

NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK is celebrated this week.  I'm glad that students are given a good breakfast at schools to start their day.  There are probably many parents who don't have the time to make a good breakfast and even sadder some who do not care at all.

GO BOWLING DAY - I use to love to go bowling, but now with weight restrictions I'm out of the luck lifting those bowling balls.  Roe and I played in a mix league when we moved to Florida; it was fun and a good evening out.  Back in Trenton, as a boy, I bowled in a junior league at the Polish Falcon's Club.  They had four lanes and used pin boys. Those were the days.

PEANUT BUTTER LOVER'S DAY - I am not a big fan of peanut butter, but I know my sons are.  They'll eat it straight from the jar at times and enjoy every swallow.  So, peanut butter lovers, make your peanut butter sandwiches today and don't forget to mix in the jelly.

Hail to the pig today for it is "NATIONAL PIG DAY."  We thank them for all those products.  Ham, bacon, sausage, pork chops, pork ribs and those pulled pork sandwiches.  My favorite is ham with horseradish to give you that extra kick.

As usual Speakies, have a great day and one wonderful weekend.
