GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:
I HEAR THE QUESTIONS, JOEY Z WHY DID YOU HAVE TO START OFF WITH FOOD THIS EARLY IN THE MORNING? THAT'S EASY IT'S SAUSAGE PIZZA DAY. LET ME TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT THE WEE JOEY Z. MY MOM AND DAD LOVED THEIR TOMATO PIES, THAT'S WHAT WE CALLED THEM IN JERSEY. THERE WAS A GREAT PLACE ON BRUNSWICK AVE. RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE BRUNSWICK THEATER CALLED CASSIANNI'S (SORRY IF I MISSPELLED THE NAME). COAL OVEN TOMATO PIES, SODA BURIED IN ICE AND GREAT HOSPITALITY. NOW I HATED THE TOMATO PIE PERIOD EXCEPT FOR THE CRUST, WHAT AN ASS WAS I. NOW I KNOW WHAT THE ENTIRE PIE TASTED LIKE. GROWING UP THERE WAS DELORENZO'S, PAPA'S, LOUIS' TOMATO PIES ON OLDEN AVE., SAM'S ON SOUTH BROAD ST AND MARUCA'S ON NORTH OLDEN AVE. AND ALSO IN SEASIDE HEIGHT, NJ. NOW THE BIG QUESTION PEPPERONI OR SAUSAGE. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF PEPPERONI AND NOW LEAN TOWARDS SAUSAGE. CRUMBLED OR SLICED REAL THIN IS GREAT FOR ME. IT GIVE THE PIE THE RIGHT OILY MIX TO DRIP ON YOUR DISH AS YOU PICK IT UP TO TAKE THAT FIRST BITE. WHAT CAN I SAY SPEAKIES, LOVE MY TOMATO PIES!!!!
OCTOBER IS ALSO TOMATO MONTH. I DO MISS MY JERSEY BEEFSTEAK TOMATOES BUT GOT USE TO THE LOCAL BRANDS THAT HAVE TO SIT OUT FOR A FEW WEEKS TO TURN GOOD AND RED. I LOVE TOMATOES ON MY SANDWICHES AND IN FACT JUST HAD A CHICKEN, LETTUCE, TOMATO AND MAYO ON PUMPERNICKEL THE OTHER WEEK. THE CHICKEN WAS A PIECE OF ROASTED CHICKEN NOT THAT LUNCH MEAT OR FROZEN STUFF. AS A KID I USE TO EAT TOMATOES LIKE AN APPLE, CARRIED A SMALL CONTAINER OF SALT WITH ME AND JUST WENT TO HEAVEN. TO TOMATO EATERS AROUND THE WORLD ENJOY THEM.
FINALLY "GENERAL PALASKI DAY." HIS FULL NAME WAS KAZIMIERZ MICHAL WACLAW WIKTOR PULASKI . HE WAS A POLISH NOBLEMAN, SOLDIER AND MILITARY COMMANDER WHO HAS BEEN CALLED THE "THE FATHER OF AMERICAN CALVARY. A GREAT HELP IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION FOR FREEDOM. THANKS GENERAL PALASKI.
