GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:
It's the last day of February, where did the month go? Tomorrow we begin the month of March, but before that let's look what today brings.
PACZKI OR PACZEK DAY - Good old homemade Polish style donuts. A paczek is a deep-fried piece of dough shaped into a flattened sphere and filled with a variety of sweet fillings if desired. Paczek are usually covered with powdered sugar or icing. A small amount of grain alcohol usually the Polish use Spiritus which is added to the dough before cooking. As the alcohol evaporates, it prevents the absorption of oil deep into the dough. My grandmother made paczeks especially for me when I was little and even as I grew older. To my knowledge she never used any alcohol but she may have, grandmother had a small stash in her kitchen cabinet. She made them so light and covered with powder sugar only and I sure could have one today.
NATIONAL CHILI DAY - I love chili, Roe makes a killer chili that is favorable and spicy with her secret recipe known only to her. Where I worked before I retired we had a chili cook-off every February and the varieties of chili recipes prepared made the cook-off fun. Besides the chili everyone brought in side dishes which made for a great luncheon and great memories.
NATIONAL TOOTH FAIRY DAY - Still a great holiday for the little ones. Loosing a tooth is something to a little one and should be rewarded as we all know the Tooth Fairy does. My grandson recently lost two teeth and reaped a nice surprise.
I have to run for an appointment today, so this will be my post for now. Have a great day and wonderful evening and remember, be careful out there.
