Luee
We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

THANKS FOR THE PACZKI GRANNY

It’s Punch Keys Speakies:

Today we have reason to celebrate, yesterday was a really dud of a day. Today we honor the Polish Paczki or as it is pronounced (Punch Key). What is this great Polish word, mean simply a pastry or doughnut but not just any doughnut? It is a deep friend piece of dough shaped like a jelly donut and covered with powder sugar, icing or pieces of orange zest. Even some sneaky cooks place a small amount of Spiritus (pure grain alcohol) to the dough before cooking. You can stuff them with jelly, cream, blueberries and apples if you like. There was only one Paczki baker in our family and that was Granny Orlowski, my grandmother. As a kid I watched her throughout the entire preparation and baking procedure. She had all of her ingredients but never gave out her secret way of making them. All I know is that I watched them boil in the oil and float to the top of the pot golden brown and light as a feather. She then set them aside covered them in powder sugar and told me to wait till they cooled. They were so light and that powder sugar made them a treat from heaven with a glass of milk to wash them down. I’m glad I was subject to a great Polish treat that’s been around since the Middle Ages in Poland.

It’s a great day for food lovers for today is also “CHILI DAY.” A few weeks ago we had our annual Chili Cook-off at work and I’m proud to say Roe’s chili took first place and a 3 time champion since I’ve worked here. No matter what kind of chili you prefer with beans or no beans, today is the day to enjoy that bowl of warm rib sticking stuff.

Get this holiday “National Sleeping Day”, what a way to celebrate this one, eat a bowl of chili for lunch and after that take a nap at work or if you are off today plop down on that easy chair close those eyes and take a snooze for a few hours. Tomorrow is the last day of February so I think I’ll start getting ready for March and just wish all my Guys and Dolls “Happy Leap Year Birthdays and Anniversaries.” See you in March.

WELCOME

I WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME A NEW VISITOR TO THE BLOG FROM VRABLE NITRA.  VRABLE IS A SMALL TOWN IN THE NITRA DISTRICT, OF WESTERN SLOVAKIA.  ONCE AGAIN WELCOME SPEAKIE

A DUH DAY

Happy Monday Guys and Dolls:

Hope you all had a great weekend and I hate to say today there is nothing of real importance to report on. History today is an absolute bore, the only food holiday is “Kahlua Day” which made me sick once and now I can’t even look at a bottle of it. If you like Polar Bears it’s your day and if you have no brain, today is “No Brainer Day.” What can Joey Z say some days there are things that you can write about other days nothing.

So for today I’m wishing you all an enjoyable day and evening and I think I’ll just enjoy a “No Brainer Day” myself.

THEY MUST GO

Happy Thursday Speakies:

There is not much happening the next few days regarding holidays or food so I thought I would take this day to complain about some more TV commercials. They are becoming annoying and must go so here is my latest list of advertising greatness.

The guy who asks that kid in a high chair if he want more money and gets plastered with peanuts and then a fire extinguisher thrown at him. The guy is stupid and that kid has an evil look about it. It has to go.

Any commercial regarding updated cell phones and coverage’s. I’m waiting for the cell phone that can make contact with some Martian. A phone is a phone; you call people when you need to or they call you. If you want to play games buy an X-Box or some other computer game gadget.

$5.00 Foot longs that jingle drives me crazy and your sandwiches are not appealing.

That guy Mayhem, I say we get a posse ready and go out and rid Mayhem from the TV screen once and for all.

The E-Trade commercial with that little Wall Street Wizard in his crib, I’d take all those computers off his little butt, stick a pacifier in his mouth and put that kid to sleep.

Any commercial that deals with four hour erections, don’t take the stuff and you won’t have any problems. That goes for all those other medicines advertised on the tube, can cause cancer, blindness, loss of hearing and even death.

Take off all political commercials if you don’t know who you want to vote for by now vote for Obama.

I’m going to wish you all a great weekend too as I may take a day off from writing tomorrow except to say something special to a special person. Have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

ANOTHER MARGARITA, I JUST SAW A PIXIE

Happy Hump Day Guys and Dolls:

What a day to celebrate today Myths and Margaritas. First of all the myth for it is “Tooth Fairy Day” that fantasy of early childhood. We all know the story when a child loses a baby tooth and places it under their pillow the tooth fairy replaces the tooth with money. The going rate when I was a kid was 25 cents; I hate to see the cost of inflation these days. What did the tooth fairy look like? A study was conducted in 1984 and most believe the fairy was a female more like a Tinker Bell type pixie, with wings and a wand. Others believed the Tooth Fairy was a child with wings, a ballerina, a dragon and even a bear. Well there’s a little history on the Tooth Fairy. For the little ones to lose a tooth is sometimes frightening so reward them when they do and keep the magic of the Tooth Fairy alive.

Yes it is “Margarita Day” today that cocktail consisting of tequila mixed with orange flavored liqueur and lime or lemon juice and served with salt on the glass rim. It can be shaken and served over ice or blended with ice and served frozen. I’ve only had a few margaritas and most of them were in a restaurant in Cozumel, Mexico that really packed a punch, ask Roe she had that red glow on her nose. The question is who really invented the Margarita? The most accepted of all the stories is that it was invented in October of 1941 at Hussong’s Cantina in Ensenada, Mexico by Don Carlos Orozco. He was experimenting making new drinks when in walked Margarita Henkel the daughter of a German ambassador, she tried it liked it and thus the drink was named.

Other stories say the drink was made for a Ziegfeld dancer named Marjorie King at the Rancho La Gloria Hotel by Danny Herrera. Another origin has it being made at the Balinese Room in Galveston, Texas by bartender Santos Cruz for singer Peggy Lee. No matter who invented the drink it’s a great summer time refresher or great with Mexican food. Stay thirsty my Speakies. Have a great day and be careful out there.

AS BOB HOPE WOULD SAY, "THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES"

Happy Fat Tuesday Speakies:

That’s right it’s “Fat Tuesday”, the big party day in New Orleans before Lent which begins tomorrow. Yes Lent is here that season of fasting I remember growing up with a Catholic family background. All I can say is it did not kill me but times have changed just like the sands in the desert. So party today and tonight all you like.

I love talking about food but a few days ago I was recalling some of my favorite restaurants I’ve enjoyed dining in with Roe and even in my single days. I would like to share those and for those readers back home let me know if you ever have eaten there too.

Circus Room was a very fancy restaurant located near Columbia, SC when I was in the service. Known for its steaks the restaurant’s motif was a circus tent and made for an enjoyable evening.

Rossi’s Tavern and Ernie’s Tavern in Trenton for burgers without a doubt.

DeLorenzo’s and Papa’s for a true Trenton tomato pie. Never can be duplicated and I’m still searching down here. A place that closed was also great LaRoma or as we called it Sam’s Tomato Pies on South Broad St. and Hudson in Trenton. Top Road Tavern also made a great tomato pie and is still around today on Brunswick Ave.

Nino’s Pizza on Chambers Street for Sicilian pizza, cheese steaks and fries.

LaGondola was a favorite and special place for Roe and I. Great food, good friends, top shelf service and the best Mussels Marinara and Shrimp Scampi ever. They also had a mean Veal Parm sandwich for lunch. We got engaged there.

Rusty Scupper in Princeton was a nice place to dine on a Sunday evening, great salad bar and good food.

Crecco’s a great Italian restaurant; nice bar and Roe’s Aunt Angie made the best salad ever. Loved their clam’s casino.

The Intimate Tom Moore’s in New Hope, PA was a place to take a date for that first impression. Very elegant with white lights trimming all the trees outside and a very romantic atmosphere inside to dine and impress. Sorry Roe the place was closed when I met you.

Georgine’s Italian Restaurant in Bristol, PA is still there today, I checked it out on the web. Family style place, large portions as I remember, veal parm was great.

Del Rio’s on Hamilton Avenue great place for sandwiches and drinks. They had a room with a giant fireplace and on a cold winter’s night you could enjoy a steak basket and a nice Manhattan on the rocks.

For an Italian Hot Dog it was the Casino hands down, now also gone but never forgotten.

There was a great Chinese restaurant on Beatty Street across from Bob’s Bakery, clean and good fresh food.

I guess there are more to recall but for now I’ll stop and wish you all good memories of the places you dined.

SOOOOOO SORRRRRRY

Warning Speakies:

This one is a food complaint on a Chinese restaurant Roe and I had dinner at Saturday night. I will not name the place but it is now on our cross out list forever except for a balance on my gift certificate which we will choose wisely. We dined at this restaurant over a month ago and the food was tasty and fresh. I noticed on the appetizer menu they had boneless spareribs, so this time I thought we would give them a try. Out they came piled nicely, well covered in sauce looking good until you bit into them. Beef Jerky from hell, so tough a jack hammer couldn’t break through. The word came forward from Roe send them back and take it off the bill. The waiter removed the ribs from our eyes and soon out of the kitchen area came a snippy girl stating that being the ribs were cooked we would be charged 20% for the cost of cooking them. “WRONG MOVE HONEY”, now she had to do battle with Roe the crusader for justice for all diners. The battle was won; victory was Roe’s; no charge for the ribs from hell and the enemy sent back to the kitchen in full retreat. The rest of the food we ordered seemed bland and made for a not so enjoyable meal. Even the egg rolls sucked. So for this Chinese restaurant all I can say is “SOOO SORRY NO COME BACK.”

P DAY; PRESIDENTS AND PETS PAY THEM HONOR

Welcome to Monday and President’s Day:

Some of you Speakies are off today due to President’s Day and wishes from Joey Z to enjoy the time off. I remember as a wee Joey Z we use to get off on Lincoln’s B-Day and good old George’s B-Day as well, a double header for February in those days. Better enjoy the day off, the next true holiday for most of us comes in May and that makes the winter longer in my book.

There are some other holidays today one is “LOVE YOUR PET DAY.” I know I talk about the dog we had named Luee he was truly loved in our home. I still can see him lying on his rug and just napping the afternoons away and dreaming of lunch meat. One can never forget a pet because all the love and care you give them. In turn you are paid back a thousand times in their affection, faithfulness and love. So be good to your pet today and give them a little treat on their special day. Posted is a picture of our granddaughter with Luee when she was younger and so was he a real fashion dog as the picture detects and a wonderful dog to play with.

With President’s Day also comes “CHERRY PIE DAY", makes sense good old George Washington had that legend of him chopping down the cherry tree and not did not tell a lie. I like cherry pie if there are no apple or blueberry pies left I’m not one for the sour taste of the cherries that are used in the pie itself.

The toothpick was patented this date in 1872. I wonder how they were shaped back in those days probably the size of a small twig. Well Guys and Dolls enjoy the day and evening and I’ll be back at you soon.

I WISH I HAD IT MY WAY

Weekend Wishes Speakies:

Making my usual Friday stop to wish you all a great weekend. You for Speakies planning to visit Florida this weekend and next week you can expect showers through Sunday, for us that’s great because we really need the rain. Next week sunny to partly sunny skies, with highs in the upper 70’s to mid 80’s. Perfect weather for a visit to the Sunshine State. Here are some holidays you may be interested in celebrating this weekend.

MY WAY DAY – I thought that holiday was reserved only for Frank Sinatra.

WHO SHALL I BE DAY – Hell I don’t know, some days I don’t even know who I am.

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY – Roe and her scrapbooking buddies practiced that a few years back by sending different little gifts to each other anonymously. Do an act of kindness to someone this weekend, bet you’ll feel better inside.

THUMB APPRECIATION DAY – Thumbs are important, just look at them nothing pretty about them but they hold mostly everything we use our hands with in life. Without thumbs you couldn’t have thumb fights. So this weekend appreciate those thumbs and remember to wash your hands and keep those fingers and thumbs germ free.

Last but not least “CRAB STUFFED FLOUNDER DAY.” One of Joey Z’s favorite seafood meals. I recently enjoy it at a Red Lobster for my daughter-in-law’s birthday. I miss catching summer Fluke off the Jersey shore, you caught so many and we had some great fluke dinners. Think I’ll say goodbye, once again have a great weekend and be careful out there.

CHOCOLATES, CHERRIES AND SNACKS

Happy Thursdays Guys and Dolls:

Well gang February is almost half-over and March is marching in as we speak. This being a Leap Year good old February has 29 days instead of 28. Joey Z wishes all my Leaper Readers a very Happy Leap Year Birthday. Not much on the calendar today for holidays but we do have some good February Food Holidays to check out.

CHOCOLATE LOVER’S MONTH – Everyone loves a piece of chocolate now and then just like I do. My favorite kind of chocolates are those little mini-bars like Nestles Crunch, Kit Kats, Mr. Goodbar or Dove etc., just enough to wet my desire for chocolate.

NATIONAL CHERRY MONTH – I remember as a kid a neighbor of ours had a cherry tree in the backyard and they did not object to us kids eating some of them, however those cherries were the kind you would make a pie from, sour but good. Now I just purchase cherries from the local grocery store and enjoy the sweeter variety. When I have my Manhattan-on-the-Rocks there must always be a Maraschino Cherry or two sitting in the bottom of my glass.

NATIONAL SNACK MONTH – Come on we are all snack freaks be it for chips and dip, pretzels, nachos, crackers or any of the variety of snacks that are out there to munch on. My urges go in spurts one week chips, the next pretzels, followed by Asian crackers, soft pretzels with mustard. Just call me Mr. Change.

Well Speakies have some snacks, cherries and chocolate this month eat in moderation but enjoy. Have a great day.

HONOR THE SPUD

Have a Potato Day Speakies:

I told you all we would be talking about some food this month. Well February is “POTATO LOVERS MONTH.” Now we all love our potatoes and Joey Z loves his as much as the next person. One of my favorite meals is meatloaf with mashed potatoes covered in gravy and on top load those potatoes with sweet peas. No finer eating than that for a man. I’m not much of a cook but Roe makes one great meatloaf and my son Joe who never cooked turned out to be a good one and makes a great meatloaf also. While on this subject I’m going to name my favorites and how I like them. Feel free here to jump in and make your post of your favorite potatoes also.

Fried Potatoes - Sliced and sautéed with onions and peppers. My Dad made a great fried potato dish.

French Fries – No skinny string fries, Joey Z likes his nice and thick, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Crinkle cut fries are another favorite of mine. French fries on the Boardwalk at Seaside Heights, NJ loaded with salt in a cone cup can never be topped.

Baked Potatoes – Loaded with butter and sour cream and replenished as the potato is being eaten. Right now I have to watch the salt so I may be dreaming of potatoes past.

Italian Potato Salad – A Rosemary specialty boiled baby potatoes with oil, spices and sometimes French style string beans. This is served room temperature and goes great with any meal.

Potato Salad – I miss my Grandmother and Mother’s potato salad all I have now is memories of that delicious taste. A woman I work with named Danuta (Fine Polish Woman indeed) makes a great potato salad when we have our parties at work. Hats off to you Danuta.

Now for the sweet treat of today it is “GUMDROP DAY.” I loved those spice flavored ones. Enjoy the day Guys and Dolls and remember potato is the word.

PRE VALENTINE DAY POST

WITH VALENTINE'S DAY TOMORROW, A LITTLE MUSIC TO PUT YOU LOVERS IN THE MOOD.  ENJOY THE SOUNDS.

A LITTLE HISTORY LESSON PLEASE MUMMY

Happy Monday Speakies:

Monday is here again and I hope you all had a great weekend. Roe and I did celebrating my daughter-in-law Elizabeth’s birthday and graduation. Today’s holidays aren’t great so let’s see what happen this date. Time for a little history lesson to keep those brains sharp.

1566 – St. Augustine, FL founded – The Fountain of Youth was just water.

1777 – Marquis de Sade arrested – He was a bad, bad boy.

1860 – King Basse Kajuara departs Boni South-Celebes – Who was he and where was he going.

1861 – Abraham Lincoln declared President.

1924 – King Tut’s tomb opened – A can of worms was started.

1952 – Rocky Marciano wins his 39th straight fight. YO I DID IT.

1959 – Barbie Dolls go on sale – Who would ever think of all the cash those dolls made.

1971 – Golfing Vice President Spiro Agnew hits 2 tee shots into the crown and injures two. Just like every Republican can’t be straight about anything.

1972 – Grease opens on Broadway.

1982 – Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” is on the chart list for the 402nd week.

There’s a little history for you to ponder over. Later this week some good food holidays to talk about. Have a great day.

WEEKEND WISHES

Happy Friday Guys and Dolls:

Joey Z stopping by to wish you all a great Friday and a fab weekend, don’t you just love that word “FAB.” Today is “UMBRELLA DAY” and if it’s not raining where you live forgetta bout it. We have a few holidays to raise glasses to this weekend so let’s check them out.

WORLD MARRIAGE DAY – Love and Marriage, Love and Marriage go together like a horse and carriage. Everybody should be like the Bundy’s yeah right half the world would be divorced. Let marriage ring out with delight and happiness. If you are in love and with the right partner for you, do it. Amen from Joey Z.

WHITE T-SHIRT DAY – I remember those days of wearing white t-shirts and blue jeans with Ked’s black sneakers. On hot days in Florida I wear my white athletic shirts. Someone told me I was wearing a wife beater shirt, I’d rather prefer they call it a Stanley Kowalski t-shirt.

DON’T CRY OVER SPILLED MILK DAY – I’m sure we have all cried from that saying. It’s true there are things not under our control so try to make the best and be happy. I’m still waiting to win the Power Ball, don’t let me cry no more. Pay up.

Last but not least let’s say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HONEST ABE LINCOLN” born on February 12, 1809.

Have a great weekend and be careful out there.

JOSIE'S WINGS AND PIZZA REVIEW

Good Afternoon Speakies:

Just wanted to stop by and tell you visitors or locals about a new pizza place Roe and I tried.  Josie's Wings and Pizza located at 1225 South Hiawassee Road and Raleigh St. in Metrowest Orlando.  The drive was worth it, we shared an order of wings medium heat which were plenty hot enough.  Now for you Jersey folks or Trenton folks they make an upside-down pizza.  To us it sounded like a Trenton Tomato Pie and came pretty close.  Cheese on the bottom with the tomato sauce swirled on top.  Nice light crispy crust.  Their menu is extensive and everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked good with nice portions.

Give the place a try while in town.

MAKE MINE A BLT (BAGEL, LOX AND TOOTHACHE)

Happy Thursday Guys and Dolls:

A painful holiday we celebrate this day, “TOOTHACHE DAY.” You’ve heard that song “There is Nothing Like a Dame” well there is nothing more painful than a toothache. I’m sure we’ve all had them once in our lives. I remember being scared stiff of dentists when I was a wee one. As my adult teeth were trying to break the gum my baby teeth would not fall out. My Mother took me to a Polish dentist on Brunswick Ave. who looked more like a construction worker than a dentist. As he started to probe around, I bolted out of that chair and ran all the way home with Mom chasing me down. There was no way he was going to work in my mouth with that ancient equipment he had. Finally we found a great dentist who gassed me up and pulled all those teeth. My Grandmother had a quick fire relief for a toothache. She would pour whiskey into a shot glass and tell you to put it in your mouth and hold it against the tooth until you could not stand the burn of the booze. Sometimes your mouth would be numb for a half-hour but the pain was gone. Today’s technology has really changed so don’t fear going to the dentist, just go and get rid of the pain for good.

Today is also “BAGELS AND LOX DAY.” I worked with a very nice Jewish gentleman once and was invited over to his house one Sunday for a brunch. That day I was introduced to lox a very salty, thin sliced salmon but on a bagel it was delicious. My buddy at work Johnny A. loves his lox when he and his wife are cruising, he creates it like a hoagie sandwich. There was a bakery in Trenton called Kramer’s who made the best bagels ever. People lined up around midnight on Saturday to start purchasing them by the bag full. There was nothing like a Kramer’s hot bagel and crème cheese. Well I don’t have a bagel to enjoy this morning with coffee but if you have a chance sneak out and grab some for you and your co-workers and enjoy.

Have a great day Guys and Dolls.

FLYING HIGH NOW

Happy Hump Day Speakies:

Go Fly a Kite, that’s not meant to be sarcastic today is “GO FLY A KITE DAY.” Kites have really become a work of art today, back in my youth a kite was 2 sticks, one piece of paper and you buying a roll of string and hoping the thing would fly high. I remember my first kite, my Dad took me over to the Farmer’s Market parking lot and we let that baby go only for it to get caught on a telephone pole. Hoping my kite would break free the wind broke it apart and took it to kite heaven. I think that was my one and only kite. I remember when we moved here my sons got a kite and I can still see Roe running up and down the back portion of our land and getting the baby up and flying she did a great job. So if you have a little guy or doll, pick up a cheap kite and have some fun today.

The Boy Scouts of America were founded this date in 1910. A great organization as my son was a member of the Boy Scouts. He really enjoyed his scouting days which even included a trip to England. It’s a great learning tool and character builder for a young boy.

Here’s one “LAUGH AND GROW RICH DAY.” I say let me get rich and then I’ll laugh. It’s probably a true saying laughter makes your life richer which is good advice. We need to laugh more with all the troubles that surround us these days. So belt out a few good laughs and make it contagious to others.

Molasses Bar Day – Take this day along with Granola Bar Day and dedicate it to the squirrels and birds of the world. Yeah, Yeah it’s a healthy snack with all that fiber and other stuff but you can break your teeth trying to bite into one. My substitute for a Molasses Bar is a Slim Jim.

Have a great day gang and be careful out there.

JERKS OVERBOARD TODAY

Happy Tuesday Guys and Dolls:

Old Joey Z is back and ready for some holiday celebrations. Let’s see what we can celebrate today and of course with a few comments from yours truly.

SEND A CARD TO YOUR FRIENDS DAY – There is not much fun you can make about this holiday. A nice thought so go ahead and do it but tell them you are sorry because they won’t get the card in time.

WAVE YOUR FINGERS AT YOUR NEIGHBOR DAY – I know what finger I would like to wave at some of mine and I’m sure you are too. Let’s do today we have the official right.

DUMP YOUR SIGNIFICANT JERK DAY – Well I can’t dump Roe, I love her but I’m sure at times she would love to dump me. For me personally there are some politicians and governors I would like to drop-kick over a cliff. Abusive parents or those women with boyfriends who abuse the little ones could be placed on a plane and released over the Grand Canyon or the Pacific Ocean, parachute not included. You have plenty of choices my Speakies only if it were true to do legally.

And for you food lovers today is “FETTUCINE ALFREDO DAY.” I’ve eaten Fettucine Alfredo several times with sausage and also with shrimp. I’m more a fan of red sauce with Marinara being my all around favorite. It’s a good night to take your Doll out for a nice Italian dinner and maybe have Fettucine Alfredo.

Have a great day Guys and Dolls.

GROUNDHOGS AND BOTTLE CAPS AND SADNESS

NEWS FLASH - Joey Z reporting live from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. That great prognosticator of weather Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow his morning and saw his shadow meaning 6 more weeks of winter weather. Well it’s going to be 80 degrees in Florida today so for all those winter loving folks enjoy the weather.

A great invention was patented this date the “Bottle Cap” but with the bottle cap one also needed a church key to open the cap or if a key was not available the metal fender of a car would do nicely. We use to crack those coke bottle caps off in a snap on a fender or any metal object that had an edge available. Memories of the good old days, a bottle of coke, pack of cigs, matches and a church key.

If you are a fan of fruit, Kiwi is number one today. The Kiwi is the edible berry of a cultivar group of the woody vine Actinidia deliciosa. Kiwifruit is about the size of an egg, has a fibrous dull brown-green skin and bright green or golden flesh with tiny black edible seeds. The fruit has a soft texture and sweet flavor. I never had kiwi till I moved to Florida and if you never tried kiwi please do it’s very refreshing.

I want to also wish you a great weekend and a good start to the new week. I’ll see you on Tuesday as I have other priorities to take care of. Tomorrow is a day of remembrance called “THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED.” On February 3, 1959, a small plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa claimed the lives of Rock and Roll pioneers: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson. A true tragedy in Rock and Roll history. Please enjoy the songs I picked out by those three talented musicians.

Enjoy the Super Bowl on Sunday, may your team win, mine is not in it. Please be careful out there and don’t drink and drive.

WORK NAKED; EAT BAKED ALASKA

Happy February Speakies:

Well Guys and Dolls it is February the month of the Groundhog. Will Phil see his shadow or not, will there be six more weeks of winter or will spring weather be on its way? Tomorrow we will know with a live report by Joey Z from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Today we celebrate “WORK NAKED DAY”; can you imagine the work that would be accomplished if everyone came to work in the buff? The idea of this holiday is that if you work from home go naked or wear clothing if you like. Today is your option so have fun doing it.

February is also “NATIONAL HOT BREAKFAST MONTH.” In fact we are planning a hot breakfast for everyone at work today. Make sure those little ones enjoy a nice hot breakfast before they set off for school. Eggs and toast, cream of wheat or a nice bowl of hot oatmeal will fill their tummies and get them off to a great start on a cold winter’s day.

Here’s a holiday for all you cruisers to enjoy “BAKED ALASKA DAY.” A gala dessert festival on cruise ships, when the lights go off and the waiters parade the flaming Baked Alaska around the dining room before delivering it to your table. What is Baked Alaska it is a dessert made of ice cream placed in a pie dish lined with slices of sponge cake or pudding and topped with meringue. The dessert is then placed in a hot oven for just long enough to firm the meringue. The meringue serves as an insulator and the short cooking time prevents the heat from getting through to the ice cream. It is said the name Baked Alaska was given to the dessert at Delmonico’s Restaurant 1876 to honor the recent acquired American territory.

Have a great day Guys and Dolls.
