GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS:
A little fact of history for your grey matter today. To conserve copper during World War II, the US produced zinc-coated steel pennies. The copper saved was enough to meet the combined needs of 2 cruisers, 2 destroyers, 1,243 B-17's, 120 field guns, 120 howitzers or enough for 1.25 million ammunition shells.

And as kids we all had those blue coin books for a collection. I used to get mine from Ed's at the Trenton Farmers Market on Spruce Street.
On Saturday the Security National Bank would find us exchanging roll after roll of and it was quite common to get a Steel Penny. I think they were from 1943?
