Hello Speakies:
Just wanted to pass along a little tidbit I received from my cousin Tom concerning watermelons.
Is Your Watermelon Ripe? - Here is What to Do:
PUT A BLADE OF STRAW ACROSS IT THE SHORT WAY
IF IT IS RIPE AND READY THE STRAW WILL TURN THE LONG WAY.
TOM SAYS IT WORKS EVERY TIME.

Summertime with melons and peppers? But something is missing Joe.
Dragonflys .. where have they gone?
I spend a lot of time mowing and outside and as kids we always saw them late summer.
"Don't get too close or they will sew up your lips" and we would run like "Wild Indians" as my Babcia would say.
Where did the dragonfly go? Locusts we have and hummingbirds but I haven't seen one in years now?
Skip, (with the weird question of course), If anything they were good for scaring the grand kids.
I can send some up there, we have loads down here, when they are buzzing and in one spot, I can circle my finger around their heads and grab them by the wings. Dragon flies and Gecko's we have but we ain't go no lightning bugs.
We need to do a trade, my yard is in a bit of a swale and the lightning bugs love it, the place lights up at dusk.
Yeah, I miss them and remember seeing (all scientific like), you had single wingers and double wingers.
Skip
I'll trade you fire ants and a bug to be named later.
