Luee

Luee
We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

THIS ONE GETS MY GANDER UP

Speakies:

Now here is a story that gets my gander. I wonder how one becomes a judge in the Florida? I want to apply for the position so news stories like this one does not happen.

Sanford, FL – Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents broke up an identity theft ring that was based out of a Sanford home Monday. The suspect was raking in $10,000 per week by stealing the identities of Central Floridians. He was so successful that he had to hire employees to handle all his victims.

They were not only stealing checks, but making them also, along with fake driver’s licenses. They were breaking into community mailboxes, stealing credit card statements and other personal mail that would assist them in their scheme.

Here’s the kicker, the main man was on federal probation at the time for doing the same thing. Why was he out on probation? Come on judges wake up and keep these scumbags in prison.

LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE STUPID

Speakies, here's a story out of Volusia County, Florida. I have not lost my faith in the dumb and dumber here in Florida.

A couple of accused burglars decided to ask a Volusia County Sheriff’s deputy for a ride home at 4 a.m., Monday. The deputy said he was a little suspicious when he saw the duo walking down the road. They told him they had gotten lost after leaving a friend’s house, but could not pinpoint the exact location of the house.

While trying to convince the officer one of the bozos did a dance claiming he was an up-and-coming rapper. While doing his “I want to be a star” dance, his pants revealed several stolen items that he had shoved in them. Can we all say “STUPID?” Our boys are now entertaining in the Volusia County Jail.

MEET MY NEW ENFORCER

This pooch won the world's most "Ugliest Dog" over the weekend. I have just hired him to be my blog enforcer. Please don't get him angry.

YOUR FAVORITE JAMES BOND

Speakies: I don't know about you, but I love James Bond movies, ever since they first came out in the 60's. My favorite actor would have to be Sean Connery, the best Bond ever to me. Let me know your favorite actor who played Bond. Let's get the voting started, I don't want to be the only one casting votes here.

To help you - Give it a little listen here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unoIVbRMw8g

JOEY Z'S NEWS AND VIEWS

Good Afternoon Speakies: I'm a man interested in current world and U.S. news events, so here's some of today's breaking stories, along with my views.

Victims Testify at Madoff's Sentencing: "He had no values." - That truly is an under statement. Of course he had no values, how do you think he made his millions. UPDATE - MADOFF GIVEN 150 YEARS IN THE JOINT. For all you lucky cons where Mr. Madoff will be housed courses may be offered concerning financial investments in the future.

Honduras Torn Between Ousted Leader and Replacement Coup -Do we take the Honduras off our vacation favorites or places to move to now?

Iran Conducts Partial Recount in Attempt to Placate Protesters - Nice move President Ahmadinejad, pad a few votes to the opposition after beating to death some of the citizens. Can you say DICKTATOR and no I spelled it the way I wanted to.

Spiritual Adviser: "Darkness gripped Governor Sanford" - What gripped and grabbed Governor Sanford was a hot looking Latin Babe, lets get the story right Swami.

The views presented here are strictly those of Joey Z's Speak Easy, love them or don't read them.

SPLISH, SPLASH, I WAS MASHED

Breaking News from Weeki Wachee, Florida - The manager of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park has been fired following allegations he harassed a mermaid performer. The park has hosted its world famous mermaid shows for more than 60 years. The investigation began in March of 2009, when a former employee accused the manager of behaving inappropriately towards her and other co-workers.

Let this be a lesson Ex. Mr. Manager, you can look but no tail for you.

POEMS BY A WIFE TO HER HUSBAND

Speakies: A friend of mine at work sent me these poems, I thought I would share them with you.

POEMS WRITTEN BY A WIFE TO HER HUSBAND

God saw me hungry, he created pizza,
He saw me thirsty, he created Pepsi,
He saw me in the dark, he created light,
He saw me without problems, he created YOU.

Twinkle Twinkle little star,
You should know what you are,
And once you know what you are,
The mental hospital is not so far.

The rain makes all things beautiful,
The grass and flowers too,
If rain makes all things beautiful,
Why doesn't it rain on you?

Hope you had a chuckle and have a nice day.

8 IDEAS TO MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER

Speakies: Ponder on these 8 Surefire ideas to make your life easier:

1. Accept that some days you’re the pigeon and some days the statue.
2. Always keep your words soft and sweet in case you have to eat them.
3. Drive carefully. It’s not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.
4. Remember that it’s the second mouse that gets the cheese.
5. Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won’t have a leg to stand on.
6. Accept that you may be only one person in the world—but you may also be the world to one person.
7. Realize that a truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
8. Sleep late. It’s the early worm that gets eaten by the bird.

JOEY Z'S WHO CARES AND YOU'LL GET YOURS COLUMN

In my first book I wrote about people, places and things that really frost me. I thought I’d keep it up with a column of my own, “Joey Z’s Who Cares and You’ll Get Yours.” I’ll be checking out news stories, the Hollywood scene and write about happenings that deserve to be noted as “Who Cares” and those that face my words of “You’ll Get Yours”. So please let your comments rip and don’t be shy. Here we go with a few news items I found today.

Jon & Kate Call It Quits – Who cares, get the divorce, get your show off the air and replace it with Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Ryan O’Neal Says He Plans To Marry Farrah – About time you popped the question and by the way were you able to get that big insurance policy on her.

Lohan Ticketed After Noise Complaint – She’s just noise period.

Chris Brown Get Probation After Pleading Guilty – If it was the common man 10 to 20. Don’t worry Chris one day you’ll get yours.

See what I mean, send your comments in, get those little things off your chest, you'll feel better.

HAVE FUN BUT TAKE HEED

Hello Speakies:

I'm sure some of you will be visiting Central Florida on vacation this summer. Taking the little ones to Disney, or visiting the beaches remember it's hot down here. Right now the temperature is around 98 degrees and with the heat index, it feels like 106 outside. Whatever you do activity wise, don't rush, drink plenty of water and if you burn, put on the sunscreen and most of all keep your cool, tempers flare when it's hot.

If you visit the beaches beware of the riptides and don't venture out to far or you'll never come back. Lifeguards had to rescue 200 swimmers this weekend due the the riptides in one county alone. So take Joey Z's advice, play it safe and have a great time in Florida. Maybe Governor Charlie can throw me a few bucks for a tourism slot on my blog. What do you say Gov?

Talk to you Speakies tomorrow, have a great evening.

WE CELEBRATE TODAY, JUNE 22

1920 – Paul Frees – The Voice of Bullwinkle J. Moose.

FATHER'S DAY

Speakies,

What is Father's Day? To some fathers it may be a new tie or shirt, a day fishing or playing golf. To me it's the memories I have and hold dear in my heart as I grow older. As a kid he was my Daddy, as a teenager he was my Pop, in my adult years he was still my Pop to me. A man who took me fishing, played catch, took me to baseball and basketball games and cried as I took a train to leave for the service during the Vietnam War. My Dad was my friend even though at times we never expressed our love for each other, he knew how much I loved him and I knew his feelings for me. He's gone now, so Pop, I love you and may you have a Happy Father's Day and may the Mets win today for you. Thanks for all your love and all you did for me.

What is Father's Day for me, well it starts with a special person named Rosemary, my wife, she blessed me with our first son Joey. This little guy was born 2 months premature at 2 pounds and 13 ounces. His chances at living were very slim, but Roe and I never gave up hope and now he's going to be 30 years old soon. Joey, I enjoyed taking you fishing, playing catch, taking you to the Princeton basketball games and all the other things we shared. You are a college graduate and now a hard working young man whom I'm very proud of. You now have a wonderful girlfriend, named Elizabeth and I'm sure one day you both will be married and have children of your own. Joey, you will make a great Father. You have the love, concern and that special something that will make you a Daddy your children will love.

Rosemary and I were blessed with a second son, Jeffrey. This little guy was born 8 pounds and a lot of ounces and healthy as could be. To me Jeff, you always traveled to the beat of a different drum. I still remember taking you fishing, playing catch, but you always had to do it your way. You have that something special, I can't name. Maybe it's that musician and artist's blood in you that makes you travel to that beat. You met a wonderful partner in Samantha, who blessed you with 2 wonderful children. There were times I worried about you and many nights I could not sleep, but prayed that things would turn out for the better. You turned around things around and when I saw that special present Sam made for you for Father's Day, my eyes filled with tears of joy for the both of you and the kids. Jeff, God blessed you with the 2 most beautiful children and a special partner to share life with. I'm so proud of you also. Keep showing that special love you have to them. I guess God blessed Mom and me with the best sons parents could ever want. Joey and Jeff you are my Father's Day Gift. Thank You.

For anyone who is going to be a Father, have patience, love and understanding. Listen to your children, hear what they say and than judge their intentions. I was never perfect, nor will I ever be, but I was blessed with a wonderful wife and 2 great sons. Enjoy your day Dads and your children for that's the true meaning of Father's Day.

No depressing who left the earth today, let's just wish the following a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY", whether they are here, up there or down below:

Lou Gehrig - Probably the best New York Yankee player ever.
Lester Flatt - Country musician.

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL THOSE CELEBRATING IT TODAY.

NOW I LEAVE YOU WITH THIS QUOTE OF THE DAY.

"To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved."

MOMMY CAN I HAVE AN ORDER OF VALUE FRIES WITH THE CASH

FLASH - ROCKLEDGE, FL

A mother was accused of robbing a Wendy's Restaurant after a wild car chase ended in Brevard County, FL. Police said the woman's 3 year old daughter was found in the car after the chase ended. The chase ended after stopsticks were deployed. Following the arrest the woman for unknown reasons was transported to the local hospital. She was reported missing prior to committing the robbery. The daughter was returned to the custody of her father and all is well.

Momma probably won't be seen for awhile.

CELEBRATIONS FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 19

Good Morning Speakies:

TGIF to you all, hope you have a nice day at work or whatever you will be doing. Today we celebrate the following:

Garfield the Cat Day - I guess every dog has his day, why not the cat.

Juneteenth Day

World Sauntering Day - Your saying "what is that Joey Z", let me explain Speakies. World Sauntering Day is a day to saunter here and there, wherever you go. Sauntering is a form of strolling. Take this day to slow down and pace and enjoy your life. Below would be a perfect example of how Rosemary would enjoy this day.

SO SPEAKIES SAUNTER THE DAY AWAY AND ENJOY.

WERE YOU ONE?

Hi Speakies:

I realized something awhile back, regarding family dining. Go back to those good old days when you were young and your family gathered for those holiday or special family dinners. You were little and probably did not like every dish being served. Worst yet being forced to eat Auntie Sophie's Squash Supreme. You would start to hear the various comments from the aunts and uncles around the table, "Rose Maria, your son is a picky eater, yes he's a picky eater, picky eater". Now that we are all adults, please realize that they were being nice to our Moms and Dads. Actually what was being said was, "Your kid is a PAIN IN THE ASS". AMEN!!!! LET THIS BE A LESSON LEARNED AROUND YOUR TABLE.

I SEE LONDON, I SEE FRANCE, I SEE BROOKSVILLE'S UNDERPANTS

This great metropolis city has updated the dress code for its employees. The City Council has designated all employees must wear underwear to work and use deo for the BO. OH BROOKSVILLE, have you no other concerns in your city, except for undies. I'm sure your citizens could find some problem areas for you to ponder. Only the good mayor opposed the revision and said the underwear policy "takes away freedom of choice". I guess the mayor likes to air out his options.

Opinions are soley by Joey Z.

1986 - Kate Smith - Singer (God Bless America) - Good luck charm for the Philadelphia Flyers.
1989 - John Matusek - Oakland Raider and Actor.

1885 - The Statue of Liberty arrives from France in New York.
1928 - Amelia Earhart leaves to become 1st woman to fly the Atlantic.

DON'T FIX WHAT'S NOT BROKEN

Good Morning Speakies: Hope you had a great weekend. I wrote a review back on May 26, 2009, under my heading of restaurant reviews. I had great praises for a new restaurant in Orlando called O'Charley's. On our first visit, Rosemary had the Roast Beef Ciabetta sandwich which was served on an oblong roll, with cheese and the finest roast beef and au jus for dipping. Yesterday after a planned doctor's visit, she suggested we go back to O'Charley's and have me sample that delicious sandwich for myself.

We both arrived, mouths watering and stomachs groaning for a good bite to eat. Orders were placed and in about 10 minutes the sandwiches arrived. The Ciabetta was the size of a hamburger bun, we could not locate the cheese and the meat tasted like processed beef (one could see the rainbow colors in the meat). It was edible but Rosemary spoke to the server about the quality of the food. Later the kitchen manager came over to our table to hear our disappointment with the meal. She stated when the restaurant originally opened, they received the food from the wrong distributor who handled the bread and meat. What we were served yesterday came from the distributor who originally was to supply the restaurant. So what was good tasting in the first place was replaced by the awful tasting food instead. Did not make sense to Rosemary and of course she is always right in her logic.

The bill was paid and O'Charley's is now scratched off our list. If you come to Orlando, the fate is yours to choose. I only write my feelings, but food you pay for should be high quality and tasty, that's what brings return business from locals and tourists to these restaurant chains. Maybe I just miss the Mom and Pop restaurants, where they know your name and the food is made and served with love and care for the patrons. That's what makes me say we'll be back.

IT'S SUMMER TIME AND THE LIVING SHOULD BE EASY

Hello Speakies:

You all know the old saying, "Summer time and the living is easy". The temperature today in Central Florida with the heat index added should be somewhere around 105 degrees. The only place I'd rather be is on a quite Caribbean island under 2 palm trees on a hammock with a nice gin and tonic and a slice of lime, with a cool ocean breeze. I would pass the day along with eyes closed and pleasant dreams. What about you? When it's hot where would you like to be? Don't be shy, reply.

What about your favorite drink on a hot day? After working outside in my garden, I like a nice ice cold beer. I'm no connoisseur on suds, my favorite is Schlitz as long as it's ice cold. Let me know your favorite beverage. If your home, pour yourself a tall one and come to my island.
The weekend is a few hours start away, have that drink, relax, have fun and enjoy Speakies. Have a great time and be careful out there.

GETS MY GANDER UP

Speakies:

I'm starting a new post for things that get your gander. Things that upset you, make you turn red in the face and scream with anger. Start posting them under this heading. I want to know and so does the rest of the planet Earth. Don't be shy, let it rip, you'll feel better and maybe, just maybe it may change things for the better. Here is our motto picture.

THE CRAZIES AND THE MACABRE RETURN

Good Morning Speakies:

Two stories this morning one of the turtle and the chase, the other; the search for a cat serial killer.

Cocoa Beach, FL - Four men led deputies on a 90 mph chase on the Beeline (It's now called the Beachline, but I call it the Beeline). Deputies saw the truck swerving in and out of the traffic and began to follow it, but the driver sped up with beer cans starting to fly out of the truck. When stopped, deputies found a soft shell turtle in the bed of the truck, which is a violation of the Florida wildlife law. Of the four men arrested two are father and son, put under the arrest for DUI (Old saying applies here, "Like Father, Like Son"). The other two nimyos were arrested for violation of probation on a DUI.
My question is "would it have been the real turtle soup or merely the mock"?

Miami, FL - Horrified owners have been finding their cats killed and mutilated for the past months in two south Miami-Dade County communities. Many of the cats were missing fur and had been cut with a sharp instrument. There have been about 15 reported cases and owners are keeping their pets inside, raising reward money and warily eyeing strangers. What does a cat killer look like? A Jack the Ripper style of a man, dressed in black with a wide brim hat and a straight razor for the job. Who knows, but when this individual or individuals are apprehended I say lock them in the looney bin and throw away the key.

THE ONE THAT DID NOT GET AWAY

Hello Speakies: Another interesting news story from the great state of Florida. Breaking news from Madeira Beach: Commercial fisherman Rodney Soloman hauled in a big, live one. Only it wasn't a fish, but a live air to air guided missile. After netting his trophy haul, he notified the proper officials. Upon arriving in port the missile was successfully dismantled by MacDill Air Force Bomb Squad members. The bomb squad said it was alive and in a very unstable state.

Maybe we can start a new fishing business, "Fishing for Ammo", who knows what else the military lost. Can you say TANK.

PICTURE FOR JOE

Joe: Here's the picture you wanted Halo Farms:

NOT MUCH POPPIN TODAY

Hello Speakies: Well it's Monday, June 8, 2009 and not much happening in the way of celebrations. The only celebration today is "Upsy Daisy Day". Sounds like fun so celebrate to your hearts content. It's June the start of vacation season, feel free to let me know your favorite spots to visit. If your coming to Central Florida and need information drop me a line. Don't forget we are also trying to find out your favorite pizza places.

We have a great foody treat in Trenton, NJ, called Pork Roll, people from Jersey and Philly are familiar with this grand old sandwich meat. It's round and you can fry it in a pan or on the grill. It makes a great sandwich or serve it with eggs for breakfast. Now I like mine with eggs for breakfast, even a egg and porkroll sandwich is great. My favorite is a cheesepork roll with spicy mustard and relish on a hard round roll, if that's not available, a hamburger bun will do. Let me know Speakies how you like yours. If you never tried it you may find it at your local grocery store, it's called Taylor Pork Roll. There is a site that will start taking orders again in August. It's called porkrollexpress. Check it out.

Here's a picture of eggs, home fries and pork roll, looks good.

TO THE QUEEN AND HER COURT

My wife Rosemary is in Dallas, Texas meeting up with the girls that she met on-line a few years ago. They all share the same hobby which is scrapbooking and loving life. A few of them planned last year to get together and meet face to face and also to attend a scrapbooking convention in Dallas. How could Rosemary say no, after all she is the mother hen to all the girls and they call her the Queen. Believe me, I've heard all about the girls and I have to say they are a great bunch. When Roe was sick, she was in their thoughts and prayers. It seems everyone in the group is concerned about each other when problems arise.
So I wanted to thank all the girls, for keeping an eye on Rosemary for me and helping her. You know who you are and if I forget one of you please forgive me, so thanks to the Cisco Kid and Pancho, Pittsburgh, Catherine-Zeta, Waddles, The Dayton Flyer and the rest. To the Queen, I'm glad you and your ladies of the court met and had a great time. May you all have a safe trip home.

NUN BUSTED

Here's an interesting news story out of Miami, Florida. Miami police arrested a nun this week, after they say she stepped between the officers and a armed suspect at a food kitchen and started yelling at the police.

Police tried to arrest the suspect after he pulled out a knife and an ice pick but Sister Margaret Anthony stepped between and started with the holy lecture. A warning was given that she would be arrested and finally the police had no choice but to handcuff her.

The idea did not sit well with the officers, they did not take her to jail, instead they released her when she promised to appear in court. Her charges are obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct.

Sister, Sister, Sister before you appear in court, remember you'll have to answer to a higher authority.

WELCOME NOEL

A special warm welcome to Noel who joined my followers. Noel and I met at Macks Truck of Wisdom a great site for all you Trenton NJ "Burg" people. Welcome again Noel.

MY BIRTHDAY DINNER

Well Speakies, Roe and I did dine at Garabaldi's last evening. The chips, red salsa and their special homemade cheese dip was delicious as usual. I never like to try different things however last night was the exception. Roe had all on one platter, chicken and steak and a casserole of shrimp in a cheesy Mexican sauce. This was also served with beans, rice and a salad. I tried a steak covered in mushrooms and onions, covered with grill roasted shrimp, rice and salad on the same plate. Out of this world. Beers were 2 for 1 and some how the waiter found out it was my birthday.

After dinner all the servers, a big Sombrero hat with a dessert and one candle arrived at our table. Of course I had to put the hat on while they sang in Spanish, but what the hell your birthday is once a year. The dessert was a thick wafer (If your Polish like a kruchiki), covered in honey, chocolate drizzle and whipped cream.

If you are ever in the area, you have to try this restaurant. Special thanks to Carlos the server he was quite the host. Thanks Honey for celebrating it with me.

CELEBRATIONS FOR JUNE 3

Good Morning Speakies:

First of all I want to thank everyone for their birthday wishes yesterday. Thank you all. Now for some June 3 daily observances we celebrate.

Chimborazo Day - I know your asking me what is that, well my readers a little education is listed below:

The province of Chimborazo is named after the highest Ecuadorian mountain (20.702 feet above sea level), the third highest elevation in America after the Aconcagua in the Chilean-Argentinean border and the HuascarĂ¡n in Peru. The summit of the Chimborazo is the furthest point from the center of the Earth, as it is crossed by the Equatorial line, where the Earth is wider. Thus, if measured from the center of the Earth, the Chimborazo would be the highest mountain on the planet. The majestic Chimborazo has attracted adventurers and scientists such as Humboldt and Whimper and has inspired artists and writers.

We also celebrate National Tailors Day - This is dedicated to all tailors world wide. Men who have made suits, shirts, slacks and altered our clothing after we ate too much or lost weight. Men standing proud with tape measures around their necks and chalk in their fingers, we salute you this day. Now can you have my pants ready on Friday!

ANOTHER RESTAURANT REVIEW FOR YOU VISITORS

Speakies: I thought of another restaurant here in Central Florida you may want to dine at. In fact Rosemary and I are going there this evening for my birthday. It's Garibaldi (Mexican Cuisine), located in Kissimmee, FL at 1804 W. Vine St., phone 407-933-0774. Not a Tex-Mex place but a true Mexican restaurant. There are 2 locations in the area, the other is in Orlando, FL. Ratings are 4.6 out of 5 on food, service, cleanliness and value. We have eaten there several times, good portions, tasty food and quality service. Lunch is under $10 with dinners ranging from $10 to $20. I feel 2 Beef Taco's coming on tonight with a draft of Dos Equis Beer.

My first blog award!!

So this is what having a blog is all about? Getting a blog award? Who would have thought..I received this from Roe because she said I needed to 'kick up my blog'; whatever that means. I know she has a list of awards on her blog site and collecting them is an honor. Well, I'm suppose to pass this on, but not sure of my blog buddies would feel the same about it as I'm supose to feel getting it from Roe. Thank you, dear.

THE WHAT IF FAIRY TALE?

Hello Speakies:

You all know the fairy tale of the Princess who kissed a Frog, there could be a new version to this fairy tale.

Sunday morning after showering and getting dressed for an afternoon out, I had to use the guest bathroom in our house because Rosemary had just finished showering. After flushing the toilet, I noticed a blob sticking out from under the rim of the toilet bowel. Low and behold it was a frog, an honest to goodness green frog. I closed the seat cover and flushed the toilet hoping to send his highness to the deep six. After the water stopped, I opened the lid, no frog to be seen, when suddenly emerging from the water was the frog. Flushing was not the answer. I immediately closed the lid again and ran to tell Rosemary the news. Running with laughter and only a towel, she grabbed her camera with zoom lens and started taking pictures of our royal visitor. While taking pictures we both laughed wondering how a frog got in our toilet. Finally I went to the kitchen taking a plastic cup and lid and coaxed our little buddy into the cup, taking him outside to join the rest of our backyard critters.

Like I said before, you all know in the fairy tale the Princess kissed the Frog and he turned into a handsome Prince and they both lived happily ever after. What if you were sitting on the toilet and the frog kisses your butt, what would you turn into? Ribbit!

Posted is a picture of the Prince to Be or is that what I could turn into if he kissed me.

THANKS TO SAXMAN

A special thanks to Saxman, he came through with the name and the original version of Harlem Nocturne recorded by the Viscounts in the 1950's. Roe and I were racking our brains out Saturday night on the title. Roe wrote to Saxman and he came through. We also found a copy done by Boots Randolph. If you like a sexy, smoky jazz number give it a listen:

Harlem Nocturne by the Viscounts

Thanks again Paul.
