Well it’s March 6, 2012 and Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to all my Guys and Dolls celebrating theirs today. Let’s see what other famous bozo’s alive or dead celebrate their birthday today:
1785 – Karol Kazimierz Kurpinski – Good old Polish composer.
1831 – Philip Henry Sheridan – Yankee General he just kept on marching.
1906 – Lou Costello – Famous half of Abbott and Costello, Hey Abbott. I had a nun in 3rd grade as my teacher who was my mother’s teacher and also taught Lou Costello, no lie. Sister Gabriella at St. Hedwig’s.
1923 – Ed McMahon – Here’s Johnny.
1937 – Merle Haggard – Country Singer.
1951 – Stedman Graham – Oprah’s main squeeze.
1959 – Tom Arnold – To me the world’s worst comedian.
Let’s Say Good Bye To Those Who Left Our Earth Today:
1836 – Davy Crockett – Killed at the Battle of the Alamo, maybe, maybe not, great History Channel Special on that theory.
1932 – John Philip Sousa – US composer.
1933 – Anton J. Cermak – Chicago Mayor bumped off by one of the Chicago gangs.
1973 – Pearl Buck – Author “The Good Earth.”
1976 – “Slapsie” Maxie Rosenbloom – Boxing champion.
1981 – Klaus Grabowski – I like this one “Child Molester”, shot by a parent.
There’s a little info for your brains today.

The true demise of the Burg started with the exodus of Michelle Laurie and her marvelous cheesecakes. As a former Miss New Jersey she was art imitating life and it was heaven in a box. I made fire up the Maxwell ad head over to Madellana's in Ringoes since they make a good one too and at $18 for a tiny one? I am due for a wee bit of luxury.
Being Polish, we get the short end of the schtick-ski. Even the History channel had the famed astronomer as Italian in a show yesterday but properly credited in a show last week, Nicholas Copernicus aka Koperniki aka, the great Polish astronomer.
The Mother House for the good sisters was in Lodi and right down the road from Lou Costello's home town of Paterson so that is likely and his partner Bud was from Asbury Park. My dad used to refer to them as "The Wash-Women" and there was some truth to that. They were by tradition, a "service order" who were founded to take care of the rectory and church or as cooks for the priests. As opposed to The Sisters of Mercy were a teaching order. Only after WWI were they called on work in schools when there was a shortage world wide.
Skipper or Skippernicus
departing for a plain jane vanilla :)
Skip: Hope you enjoy your wee slice of luxury. I could go for a nice egg and pork roll sandwich on one of those good old Lisook's hard rolls. At least the Polish neighborhood is on the rebound.
