Good Morning Speakies:
Well it does not look good for JoeyZ’s Phillies right now, down 3 games to 1 to those Giants. Looks like I could be playing that Tony Bennett song “I Left My in San Francisco” after tonight’s game. Well win or lose they are and will always be my team. I saw them win two World Series in 1980 and in 2008, and there were many Phillies fans who never saw them win a World Series.
Roe and I had a few doctor appointments yesterday and afterwards searched for a place for lunch. We decided to try that Polish restaurant in Longwood, Florida called Polonia’s. When we walked through the door you came upon a room with one table, some counter seats and what I would call a butcher’s showcase. One side was filled with desserts the other with assorted Polish meats for sale and a larger cooler filled with assorted Polish beers. We were greeted and quickly seated in the other dining room which felt like you were having dinner in someone’s house. A small crowd was present but quickly started to fill up. I saw kiszka as an appetizer and wondered if I should try it. Roe made the decision for me and I placed my order for that Polish dish I haven’t had in years. We looked over the menu and decided the rest of our lunch. I ordered the Polish trio consisting of one stuffed cabbage, two cheese pierogi and smoked kielbasa. Roe ordered the stuffed cabbage with one cheese pierogi and one cheese and spinach pierogi. The kiszka did not disappoint served with mustard and horseradish. The pierogi were light and tasty covered with onions, the stuffed cabbage was nice and firm with a light tomato sauce not like the red tomato sauce my grandmother and mother made. The kielbasa was smoked and I should have chosen the fresh instead. The meal was excellent and Roe brought most of hers home. After dinner we checked out the desserts in the other room and decided to bring home two pieces of apple strudel one of which I finished with my morning coffee. If you are visiting the area or live here in Central Florida JoeyZ highly recommends Polonia Polish Restaurant in Longwood.

Luee
We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

With "Sukiyaki" playing in the backgound who can think of Polski chow?
It did get me to look up the lyrics in English and Japanese after all these years. Very sweet song about a lost love. Whoda' thought?
Polonia is also the restaurant that is across from the Columbus School however the old school is gone so the 1900's building and the 55' addition saw the wrecking ball. The folks that run are wonderful and the food is excellent. What you need now is to go back and see if they have the dark kraut with bits of pork (not sour) .. hunter stew .. the Polish name will come to me.
Lucky I just had lunch or I'd have been in the car and Trenton bound.

Hunter Stew is "Bigos", as soon as I started to hunt the web site it came to me. They also make an excellent blintz, sooooooo killer good that tomorrow I have some car issues but I'll stop at The Trenton Farmers Market and pick up a few frozen from Pulaski Meats. My wife is Norsk and kind of turns her nose up at Polish fare but those blintzes and some of the "Neo-Pulski" pierogi have got her attention for certain. The new ones from Pulaski are ground spinach and feta cheese with a hint of lemon. As you said last week "fusion" where it's at but these are danged good.
Always feel odd eating in a place alone but in Villa Polonia on Brunswick Ave, my buddy and I have had a few singles come over and join us. Unlike we "natives" they are very friendly.

Skip, they did have Bigos on the menu but I haven't had stuffed cabbage in a long time and I had the taste for that. Kiszka was good but could have been more crispy on the outside skin, it was filled with pork and barley.
I will definitely go again.
I love red cabbage with Sauerbraten, miss the Old Heidelberg's food.
Lucky for us they offer a combo platter and when my buddy and I go in they will kind of "work with us" on that.
So we can substitute the regular smushed kartofle (mashed potatoes w no milk), for an order of bigos. So we end up the some pierogi, plascki, and golumpki (spelling is horrible), but we usually end up with two mixed platters sharing a bit of everything. My wife likes plain mashed potatoes real bland (european style), me I'd kill right now for a whipped double baked potato. My Mom would bake them and then scoop them out and put in lots of butter and milk, whip & stuff and then back in the oven till the top was brown.

Joe, the old Zeffuti's in now a Polish place that gets good reviews.
The name is Rozmaryn. They are right next to the old Capitol Sporting Goods that was owned by Joe Lombardo and his side-kick "Spongie".
