Luee

Luee
We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

ENJOY THE SOUNDS

FOR THOSE STOPPING BY, PLEASE READ AND ENJOY THE MUSIC. SEE YOU ALL SOON.

SHOULD I BE MANHATTAN OR NEW ENGLAND STYLE

Friday is here Guys and Dolls:

Stopping by this nice day of days announcing the weekend is only hours away. Looks like a great weather weekend here in Florida, but one never knows. Whatever your plans are go for it and have fun that’s what Rocky Balboa would say. This weekend get ready to pour that cold brew or for my Northern Speakies maybe that Hot Toddy might be good for your bodies and let’s celebrate the following:

Today:
International Mother Language Day – Could be a two way street on this one.
Chocolate Mint Day – I love that flavor in ice cream.
Iwo Jima Day – Celebrates the landing on that day.

Saturday:
Love Your Pet Day – No matter what kind you have, take care of them and give them lots of love. God Bless you Luee.
Northern Hemisphere Hoodie Hoo Day – Whatever this holiday is have a drink on it.
Clam Chowder Day – My favorite is Manhattan Clam Chowder but I also like New England Chowder.

No big celebrations for Sunday, make your own.

JUST WANTED TO LET YOU GUYS AND DOLLS KNOW I’M TAKING NEXT WEEK TO WORK AROUND THE HOUSE TRYING TO FINISH SOME CHORES AND EDIT MY SECOND BOOK, SO I’LL SEE YOU IN A WEEK. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE AND HAVE FUN.

JUST A NICE THURSDAY

Good Day Guys and Dolls:

Hope you all are having a nice Thursday so far, mine is going normal right now. The weather in Central Florida is bright and sunny but on the cool side high only about 60 today. I can feel my ears burning now, betting you Northern Speakies are cursing me out. We have two holidays to celebrate today:

Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day – Good idea.
Battery Day – Do we pay homage to that little pink bunny banging that drum?

I want you to know we haven’t had a history lesson in quite sometime and we won’t today either. I checked my sources and nothing exciting really happened today. We can however say “Happy Birthday” to the following famous people:

John Travolta – Good actor
Yoko Ono – John Lennon’s wife
George Kennedy – Fine actor of Cool Hand Luke, Airport and numerous other films.
Jack Palance – Actor of western fame, he was “Curly” in the “City Slickers.”

Here’s an update on a news story I posted a few months ago. Remember the guy who was slapped in the face by a bear down here. Well Neddy Nordic finally got his day in court yesterday. The judge fined him $200 and gave him 6 months probation and community service for leaving food out. Neddy contended he left the food out for stray cats and was not expecting a visit from Yogi Bear. Go figure it, tries to do something nice for animals and get the book and the real &*%#@*& get off with nothing.

Have a great evening Speakies, be kind to each other and Love is the word.

OH THOSE MEMORIES, AND LET THEM BE MEMORIES

Good Afternoon Guys and Dolls:

Now for those of you who purchased by book “I Hate Everybody” (And Other Things), there was a section on how when it snows in Trenton, NJ and after you shovel your parking space it is sacred and must be protected. This protection comes in the form of garbage cans, chairs or anything that will not blow away. The picture you see is proof of what I wrote. Have a great evening and be careful Trentonians driving in that snow, ice and slush. Keep Warm also.

MY WAY DAY AND A LITTLE SONG FROM FRANK

Good Morning Speakies:

Well another hump day has arrived and today is the start of the Lenten Season in preparation of Easter. Just yesterday it was Christmas tell me why when one starts to get older the time flies by so quickly? That’s a question like why is the sky blue?

Let’s see what observances there are today:

Ash Wednesday – The start of Lent. I remember all those Catholic services when I was an altar boy in grammar school. Good memories.

My Way Day – Sure hope so, I’m sure Sinatra is having his Way Day either upstairs or downstairs, so listen to a little tribute for Frank on this day.

World Human Spirit Day – Maybe one day that will happen.

National PTA Founders Day – Look what it has become today.

Still chilly down here but the weekend is looking nice with highs in the 70’s. I may be checking back later with some breaking news if any of the crazies are around or if something frosts my butt today. Have a great day.

HELLO TONI AND IT'S PACZKI DAY

Happy Tuesday Speakies:

I had a nice surprise yesterday, I heard from an old friend I use to work with in Jersey through Face Book, it was nice to hear from you Toni, one of the nicest people I worked with. Let’s stay in touch.

Let’s see what observances we can get bang the drum for today.

Fastnachts Day – Pennsylvania Dutch – Shrove Tuesday.

Pancake Day – I use to love them as a kid, I don’t think I’ve had pancakes in years.

Mardi Gras Day – It’s the last big day of celebration, so drink and throw beads all day and night long. Lent starts on Wednesday with Ash Wednesday.
Washington’s Birthday – Happy “B” Day Georgie.

Paczki Day - Pączek is a deep-fried piece of dough shaped into a flattened sphere and filled with confiture or other sweet filling. Pączki are usually covered with powdered sugar, icing or bits of dried orange zest. A small amount of grain alcohol (traditionally, Spiritus) is added to the dough before cooking; as it evaporates, it prevents the absorption of oil deep into the dough. I remember my grandmother making these all the time, she made hers plain with powdered sugar on top served hot, drops of remembrance are falling now from my mouth. She always called them Punchski. To have some of those days back.

Have a great day Guys and Dolls.

Good Day Guys and Dolls:

Well its Monday once again. I would like to welcome a new Speakie from the Ukraine who stopped by yesterday, nice to have you in our group.

I forgot to mention Sunday was Chinese New Years, “The Year of the Tiger.” For all my Chinese readers, I wish you a Happy New Year. For all you visitors coming to Florida, the weather should be warming up by mid-week and highs should be normal around Friday which is in the mid 70’s.

We have some holidays today to raise our glasses to and they are:

Lupercalia – A very ancient Roman holiday to advert evil spirits and purify the city releasing health and fertility. – For all you dolls wanting children tonight might be the night.
Susan B. Anthony Day – She got on her own Silver Dollar, congrats Susie.
Shrove Monday
National Gum Drop Day – I always liked the spiced ones.
Presidents Day – Some of you lucky stiffs are off today.

It's a busy day for JoeyZ so have a great day Speakies and be careful out there.

5,000 HITS THANK YOU

HEY SPEAKIES: TO ALL MY GUYS AND DOLLS, I HAVE REACHED

5,000 HITS ON JOEYZ'S BLOG

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR STOPPING BY AND READING AND POSTING YOUR COMMENTS. IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE TO WRITE HERE.

AIN'T THIS A KICK IN THE HEAD

Speakies:

WARNING, WARNING, DANGER, DANGER. That’s just to get your attention. Breaking news out of Tallahassee, Florida our great state capital. The National Weather Service has advised that a storm moving across Texas will reach the Gulf of Mexico by late tonight and hit northern Florida by Friday morning. There is a 40 to 60% chance of snow accumulating up to an inch. This may also be mixed with rain.

I had to bring this story to you to make those transplants who still love snow they still have a chance of seeing it. Have a good night Snowbirds.

WELCOME MALAYSIA

JUST WANTED TO WELCOME A NEW SPEAKIE FROM MALAYSIA.

NATIONAL SHUT-IN DAY

Good Morning Guys and Dolls:

Hoping all of you will have a great Thursday, no matter what you will be doing. To our Northern Speakies enjoy the white stuff and take it easy with all the shoveling. We have several observances to raise our glasses to today:

Be Electrific Day – Amaze the world with your personality; don’t stick your fingers in any sockets.

Pro-Sports Wives Day – What about having a Working Wives Day or just a Wives Day, I’ll get one started.

Satisfied Staying Single Day – If you like it, this is Your Day to celebrate.

National Shut-In Visitation Day – Remember the Shut-ins always, you may have a mother, father or grandparents in a nursing or rehab home. Pay them a visit if only for a few moments. They may not recognize you but will feel your presence and your love. I know my grandmother spent the last years of her life in a nursing home and I wish I had visited her more. Our dog Luee was selected as a visitation dog to nursing homes and a place here called “Give Kids The World”, he cheered quite a few seniors and the youngsters with terminal illnesses. I always called him our “Cheer Dog.”

I’ll be checking the local news for any breaking Florida news, the crazies have been quite the last week. See ya later.

DRAW THAT WATER AND RELAX DOLLS

Good Day Guys and Dolls:

Hope you all are having a great morning so far and I wish the same for you the rest of the day and night. We have one holiday to celebrate today and that is “Read in the Bathtub Day”. So if you are not working or for those lovely Dolls of mine at home, fill up the tub with nice warm water, some bubble bath, soak and read your favorite book.

I thought we should check out some more dumb laws, this time in my home state of Jersey, so here we go:

It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder.
You cannot pump your own gas – still in effect today.
It is against the law for a man to knit during fishing season.
You may not slurp your soup.
It is illegal to delay or detain a homing pigeon.
No street side trees may be planted that “obscure the air.”
Handcuffs may not be sold to minors.
All cats must wear 3 bells to warn birds of their whereabouts.
No one may annoy someone of the opposite sex.
It is illegal to offer whiskey or cigarettes to animals at the local zoo.
It is illegal to sell ice cream after 6p.m., unless the customer has a note from his doctor.
You may not throw a bad pickle in the street.
And finally, “It is illegal to get drunk and annoy others in your house.”

Okay Jersey people and those planning to visit, obey those laws. Have a great day Speakies.

IT'S MONDAY AND WE HAVE DUMB LAWS

Hello Speakies:

Here’s hoping you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the Super Bowl and not suffering from any hangovers. Each state has some dumb laws written on the books, so I thought maybe this week or over the next few weeks we can take a look on some of those laws still in existence. Why not start with the state of Florida. Now these are for real and I’m not going to embarrass the cities involved.

It is illegal to molest a Key Deer. – Who would want to?

Persons may not be “inappropriately attired” who work at hot dog stands. – Most of the bikini girls are gone.

It is against the city ordinance to hang your clothes outside on a clothesline. – What village idiot wrote that one?

The molestation of trash cans is banned. – Didn’t know they had feelings.

Torpedoes may not be set off in the city- I guess submarines aren’t allowed on the road either.

Skateboarding is not allowed at any police station. – OK.

It is illegal to drive over graves in a cemetery. Oh the humanity.

Well Speakies there you go with some strange laws to obey when you visit the Sunshine State. Have no fear other states your dumb laws will be listed on JoeyZ’s site soon. Have a great day and stay clear of the law.

SUPER BOWL WEEKEND WISHES

Happy Friday Speakies:

A big weekend coming up for all you football fans, it’s “SUPER BOWL WEEKEND”, coming directly at you from Miami, Florida. The forecast for Sunday is plenty of sunshine, high around 62 degrees and lows in the 40’s at night. Might be a little chilly at kick-off time. So get to the stores on Saturday and stock up on all those goodies. It’s not only Super Bowl Weekend, we have other holidays to observe and here they are:

Today:
Weatherman’s Day – In honor of those always accurate guys.
Wear Red Day
World Nutella Day – That great peanut butter substitute.
Bubble Gum Day – Remember Bazooka Joe.

Saturday:
Dump Your Significant Jerk Day – I’d like to drop a lot of jerks.

Sunday:
Of course Super Bowl Sunday
Ballet Day - If you must catch the matinee showing.
Daytona Pole Day – For all you race fans coming to Daytona Beach.
Man Day – Named after me of course.
Wave All Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day – And if you don’t like them too much wave one finger.

So Speakies raise your glasses tall to all these holidays big or small. Have a great weekend, remember to love one another and be careful out there.

SOMETHING SMELLS FISHY

SPEAKIES: NEWS FLASH FROM FLORIDA.

A group of Fish and Wildlife Commission officers were arrested on charges of stealing over $300,000 from the state. This money was being used to purchase a home and furniture in Sin City, that's Las Vegas Baby. More arrests are to follow. Another smelly situation at the Florida government level.

How could they do this take away money from the little fishes and blow it in Vegas? I'm glad they were caught hook, line and sinker.

QUACKER DAY HAIL OUR FURRY FRIENDS

Good Day Speakies:

Stopping by to wish you all a Happy Thursday and hoping you all will have a great day. I’d like to say Welcome to a new Speakie from Romania. My international list of visitors is growing. Today we celebrate some holidays so let’s see what we have:

Liberace Day – Big holiday in Vegas.
Quacker Day – Let the quacks speak out and be heard.
USO Day – A great service organization.
World Cancer Day – My question has been for years “Is there a found cure or are the drug companies hiding the truth?”

I might be stopping back later, so behave.

IT'S A DAY TO HONOR FOUR BRAVE MEN

Good Morning Guys and Dolls:

I always try to keep humor in my blog on a daily basis, however today I would like to honor four brave men. Four brave men to who gave up their own lives to save others, “The Four Chaplains.” These men all held the rank of lieutenant and were Methodist Reverend George L. Fox, Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Roman Catholic Priest John P. Washington and Reformed Church in America Reverend Clark V. Poling. They were sailing on the USAT Dorchester a troop transport on February 3, 1943 when the ship was torpedoed by a German U-Boat in the North Atlantic. As the ship was sinking, the four chaplains calmed the frightened soldiers and sailors, aided in the evacuation of the ship and helped guide the wounded to safety. They even gave up their own life jackets.

A survivor quoted, “As I swam away from the ship, I looked back. The bow came up high and she slid under. The last thing I saw, the Four Chaplains were up there praying for the safety of the men. They had done everything they could. I did not see them again.”

On December 19, 1944, all four chaplains were awarded the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross. Hero’s come in all shapes and sizes may these men rest in peace always. This story was on the History Channel awhile back if you ever see it listed watch it.

Have a great day Speakies.

THEY ARE HERE

Yes Speakies as I am writing this GIANT SQUIDS are invading the coast of California. Fishermen up and down the coast are requesting twilight fishing trips to nab the invaders. Rumors are that thousands of Italian women are also heading west to bring back those squids for their homemade Calamare. How I wish GIANT MUSSELS would invade the Florida coast so I can have decent Mussels Marinara with some hot Italian bread for dipping and a nice glass of wine to wash it all down.

I think I'm just going to close my eyes and dream a little dream.

WELCOME LITHUANIA

JUST WANTED TO STOP BY AND SAY WELCOME TO A NEW SPEAKIE FROM

LITHUANIA A NATION CLOSE TO POLAND. WELCOME AND PLEASE STOP BY OFTEN.

HAPPY GROUNDHOG'S DAY
