Luee

Luee
We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

MONKEYS AND TREES

Good Morning Speakies:

Greetings from a cold Central Florida this morning. I’m telling you its hot chocolate, tea, coffee or a chicken soup broth for this kind of frigid morning. I’ve already had my daily cup of coffee and turned on my portable heater and ready to start the work day. There is some really crazy weather happening across the nation, just be careful out there when traveling. Speaking of cold weather, Roe made me her famous Chicken soup last night for dinner. That soup hit the spot on a cold December evening. Love you Doll.

Today is “MONKEY DAY” in honor of those simians we all love to see frolic about. So today just hang out and have a banana. Here is an idea find an old Planet of the Apes movie and watch it. Forgot to mention I’m proud of those Eagles on Sunday Night Football they played to win and I hope they can go far this year.

Today is also “BUY A CHRISTMAS TREE DAY.” If you Guys and Dolls have not purchased your tree, go out today and get one Christmas is next week. I remember always having a real tree when I was little, then my mother got sick of cleaning up the needles and dad planted our last real tree in the back yard which grew pretty tall. Our next tree was one of those Silver Trees with the spinning colored wheel we had that for several years and finally came the fake green tree that remained for years to come blessed our home. In our house now we set up two trees, not large ones, but one is dedicated to the grandkids and decorated in children’s ornaments and pictures throughout the years. Roe does a great job decorating; all I do is pull them out. It’s funny when you start writing about things memories of past times come to you. I remember my grandfather my mom’s dad who could not wait for the Holidays to come. He decorated the tree, hung up ornaments on the archways and could not wait for Christmas Eve to come his favorite night of the year. I’ll tell you more later when I write about Polish Christmas Eve.

I think I’ll call it quits for now, remember hang out like a monkey, buy a tree and just be careful out there. Have a great day and evening.

Hi Joe:)
We had an aluminum Christmas tree one year and it was cool..but the color wheel far outlived it in our house as we thought that was so pretty itself...along with the cardboard fireplace which lasted many years. I remember the big bulbs that went on trees before twinkle lights became the thing.

Our wheel went a couple of years ago, we had the tree on the enclosed patio or lanai as they call it here. Those big bulbs were great, drop one and glass all over the place and they got hot.

I think it was 1961 and money was not to be had. Dad left and went west looking for a job with Boeing when Curtis Wright shut down where Best Buy was at QB Mall.

Mom and I walked down Olden Avenue to the old Blue Moon Diner (Specia Pizza City), to get a cheap tree but they were $4 or $5.

A fellow working at the lot told Mom to come back Christmas Eve before closing and they would almost give them away. As a kid I would be sure that there would be nothing left and by three that afternoon it was snowing hard.

We got to the lot shortly before dark and the fellow recognized us and announced "any tree .50 cents".

We dragged our bargain tree home in the snow singing carols. Despite the lack of money somehow Mom always turned the gloom to sunshine.

We put our tree up the other day and our recently adopeted dog, a Pomeranian, sat an pondered this new addition and I figured trouble was about to happen since trees are the next best thing to a fire plug.

So, the lights went on and then the balls. He watched and when we were done, he went and brought his two tennis balls and dropped them on the skirt of the tree. His offering to the holiday? I'd love to hang one but somehow that would be courting disaster.

Now your posts are reminding me of when bubble lights were all the rage.

That was back when all of the bulbs had reflectors to keep from burning down the house.

Tinsel looked great back then too unlike this silver plastic foil; we had lead, yep, honest to goodness lead tinsel that was great for shorting across the tracks to bring that American Flyer to a dead stop. Then there was a little pellet you could drop down the stack to make smoke and with that push button horn blowing. oh what a time! You could also form the tinsel into little lead balls to throw at each other or rouse the cat sleeping in the manger.

Skip: Those are the memories of Christmas one will always remember. Probably a true Christmas spirit, that was a touching story about the tree and singing, keep that always.

I'd still keep an eye on that tree, our old dog never bothered our tree, he just laid there looking at the lights. I was never a fan of tinsel always falling on the floor, we have some this year, looks nice.
