We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

WEEKEND WISHES GUYS AND DOLLS

Good Morning Speakies,

Making my usual Friday morning visit to wish you all a great day and weekend to come.
May is "National Barbecue Month."  I watch all those cooking shows on the Travel Station, the Food Channel and the Cooking Channel.  I really don't know where to go for good BBQ here in Florida.  Roe loves BBQ, ribs which are my favorite also.  Roe makes  great slow cooker style of ribs, served with mashed potatoes and a vegetable, for me it is the best.  We had great BBQ ribs at Texas Roadhouse and Chili's where we live.  So this weekend Speakies comes your assignment to find a good BBQ place and let me know your feelings about it.

NO TOBACCO DAY - To all my readers, quit the habit, it caused me to have bladder cancer at a younger age.  I'm glad I never developed lung cancer. In a matter of months I felt stronger but it also play a big part in my life today.  For you with little ones take heed and quit, so you can see them grow-up, graduate, get married and enjoy your grandchildren.  Taking my warning seriously.

I think that is it for today, have a great day and weekend once more and remember June is tomorrow.

HAPPY MAY 30 SPEAKIES

Good Morning Guys and Dolls,

The month of May is almost over, so before it's over lets see some celebrations:

National Asparagus Month - Asparagus is a flowering plant species in the genus Asparagus from which the vegetable known as asparagus is obtained. It is native to most of Europe, northern Africa and western Asia, and is now widely cultivated as a vegetable crop.  I love this stuff and only for the tips, well done with some melted butter.

This week we honor the "PICKLE" the one thing Roe hates to see on her plate if ever delivered at a restaurant.  For me, I love pickles, Kosher like the ones I enjoyed at Lisook's Deli on Brunswick Ave.  Give me Polish pickles, sweet pickles and all the rest and Joey Z will enjoy them.

MAY 30 HOLIDAYS:

MY BUCKET HAS A HOLE IN IT DAY - What can I do about it, put my finger in the hole like the little kid at the dam in Holland.  No way, So Sorry.

WATER A FLOWER DAY - Down here and when not in the rainy season, one must water the plants on a regular basis.  Roe just purchased me one of those shrieking hoses as seen on TV.  Works great and is really light for me to use being my lifting abilities are limited.

AMERICAN GRUMP DAY OUT - Go out and be a real Grouch today and enjoy.  I would say what I would like to do, except I probably would offend readers.

MINT JULEP DAY - A mint julep is traditionally made with four ingredients: mint leaf, bourbon, sugar and water.  It is traditionally, spearmint is the mint of choice used in Southern states, and in  Kentucky. I guess it goes good with the Kentucky Derby and that song, "My Old Kentucky Home."

HAVE A GREAT DAY AND BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.

NIMYO AND BOZO OF THE DAY

Hello Speakies,

FLASH - LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL - A grand-mom and her grandson found a loaded gun on her seat while enjoying the Dinosaur ride at Animal Kingdom.  Granny gave the gun to a park attendant, who contacted a supervisor and the local authorities.

The owner of the gun, lets get a false name to protect the guilty, how about Carlo Angelo Cannoli Gravy.  He told authorities he discovered his gun was missing after leaving the ride.  This guy had a concealed weapons permit that's great.  Disney World visitors are not allowed to bring guns on property.  Who do we put the blame on here, Disney Security?  Disney for not screening this guy upon entering the park as they check pocket books and lunch bags for everything.  Along with this Nimyo for bringing in a gun to the park dumb ass.   I know it is Animal Kingdom, but please don't shoot the animals or scare the little ones along with the families enjoying the park.

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES

Good Morning Guys and Dolls,

Those fishing pictures will be posted soon and would like to say thanks for a great week fishing with my Good Buddy Joey G and my sons Joey and Jeff.  Thanks for giving the old man a great time.  I can't believe that May is almost over so let us catch up on the holidays and foods we missed.

MAY IS THE NATIONAL RESPECT FOR CHICKEN MONTH - There are two dishes I love that Roe creates, one is a thin chicken parm and the other is a chicken thigh dish with all kinds of good stuff.  I never ask a women for her secret recipes.  The rest of chicken you can have and enjoy.

CLEAN AIR MONTH -  Now that is harder to breath for many reasons, I have one complaint.  The A-Holes in Congress who still don't believe in global warming and doing nothing maybe one or two bills.  I also hold all those companies who did not protect their employees from hazardous materials and fumes.  To the Vietnam Vets tell the government thanks for "Agent Orange."  We should have left that sh-t hole earlier.

THE FOURTH WEEK OF MAY WE HONOR FROZEN YOGURT WEEK -  Pretty good substitute for ice cream.  I tried and liked Publix's Vanilla and Chocolate frozen yogurt.  Very smooth and tasty.

NATIONAL SHOE WEEK - Does anyone one know how many shoes and styles you had throughout the years?  This is what I remember:

Baby Shoes.
Slipper.s
Flip Flops - always hated them...
Roman Sandals - gave me blisters on my heels.
Sneakers all kinds of styles and colors.
Penny Loafers..
Buckskin Shoes (Thanks Pat Boone).
Desert Boots - one of my favorites, just saw them at Target but in canvas.
Service Shoes -  Both dress and boots for every day use and for those special dress and parade day a pair of Patent Leather dress shoes.
Disco platform shoes.  Now as I am aging in life it is those sneakers made with those bands of Velcro.

MAY 29, WE CELEBRATE THE FOLLOWING:

PINK FLAMINGO DAY -  Beautiful birds in person to see, come to Florida and enjoy.  Now Roe and I have had plastic Pink Flamingo,s always in front of our house.  Enough said this subject.

JOHN F. KENNEDY'S BIRTHDAY - Great American President born this date in 1917.  My Dad met him in person while working at the New Jersey Governor's Mansion while he was running against "Tricky Dick Nixon."  His motorcade passed our house while heading to the train station.  Brunswick Ave. was crowded with more people than five Super Bowls.  Great president, but like the great ones, there is always someone out there being an idiot.

COQ AU VIN DAY - Is a French braise of chicken cooked with wine, lardons, mushrooms and with options of garlic added.  Stick it with the other chicken stuff I don't want to eat.

HAVE A GREAT DAY SPEAKIES.

GREAT FISHING VACATION

HELLO GUYS AND DOLLS,

Joey G., my sons and I had a great week.  We fished the inter coastal near Sarasota and boated around 30 fish from 8 a.m. till 4:30 p.m.  We caught Lady Fish (Small version of Tarpon), Catfish, Sea Trout, Jacks and one we don't know.  My good buddy Joe G. took my son Jeff for a 6 hour Tarpon trip, no Tarpon, but a few Lady Fish and a nice Sand Shark.

The week was filled with fun, good food and drink and spending time with my boys and best friend.  It was also our 35th Wedding Anniversary, which we celebrated at a great Italian restaurant.  As soon as I receive the photos from the gang, they will be posted.  Have a great day.

ZIP IS BACK IN THE SADDLE

HELLO FELLOW ZIPSTERS,

I hope everyone of you enjoyed the holiday weekend and if you thought at least a minute for those who gave their lives for your freedom the Zippy is proud of all of you.

LETS BE HAPPY WITH SOME PUNS AND ONE LINERS:

Obey gravity.  It's the law.

If I am what I eat, then I am cheesy!

Hokey Pokey Anonymous, the place to turn yourself around.

I'm only lazy on days that end in a "Y."

Corduroy pillows are making headlines.

Dijon Vu - the same mustard as before.

When tow egotists meet, it's not an I for an I.

A backwards poet writes inverse.

A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion.

Where to Forest Rangers go to "get away from it all?"

If a parsley farmer is sued, can they garnish his wages.

If the cops arrest a mime, do they tell him he has the right to remain silent.

NOW FOR THE NUMBER ONE FOR EVERYONE:

THE TOP TEN REASONS WE PROCRASTINATE!  SO LET'S GET STARTED.

1.  Think about it and send Joey Z your reasons.

Have a great day.

HAPPY MONDAY MORNING SPEAKIES:

ZIP'S QUIPS ARE BACK

GOOD MORNING FELLOW ZIPSTERS,

Thanks Joey Z for allowing me to fill in today.  Let us start off with:

SOME TRULY AMAZING STUFF:

According to researchers, laughter could be just what the doctor ordered when it comes to coping with life's stresses.  Its been proven that laughter:

Relaxes muscle.

Lowers blood pressure.

Eases mental tension.

Reduces levels of hormones that trigger the stress responses and suppress immunity.

Laughter is beneficial for improving one's perspective on life in general.

If your throat tickles, scratch your ear.  You can try clearing your throat, but that won't make that tickle feeling go away.  Here's a better way of dealing with tickles in your throat:  "When the nerves in the ear are activated, it creates a reflex-life reaction in the throat that can cause a muscle twitch", says Dr. Shefer, head of the Ear, Nose and Throat ward at a New Jersey hospital.  "Those twitches ease the tickling sensation.  "You heard it from Zippy, just scratch your ear.

I hope Joey Z will not get upset, but here are a few food celebrations I love.

PICKLE DAY - I love pickles, especially the the Kosher whole or sliced pickles, Polish pickles, sweet pickles sliced, you name them, I love them.

SPAGHETTI O'S MADE THEIR DEBUT - Good old Chef Boyardi introduced his Italian heritage on food today.  Zip loved them as a kid along with the ravioli but now too much sodium for the aging Zip.

HAVE A GREAT DAY AND TAKE CARE.

HAPPY MAY 15 SPEAKIES

A GOOD HUMP DAY MORNING TO YOU ALL,

On this day of May, we celebrate "National Nylon Stocking Day."  One of the sexiest things a man could dream about.  Garter belts, brief panties, a short nighty and I'm in heaven.  Tell me Guys you don't like this and Joey Z will call you a liar.  Sit back and dream Guys or go into action.

OVER THE RAINBOW DAY - Florida has some beautiful and even double rainbows after a summer storm.  One must be here to enjoy its beauty.  Otherwise we go searching for Dorothy and Toto, this ain't Kansas anymore.

NATIONAL EMPLOYEES HEALTH AND FITNESS DAY - Yes, keeping busting their chops to keep a buffed body like the executives who can afford those days of a gym and personal trainer.  This is followed by a round of golf and a few Martini's at the 19th Hole Bar and Grill.  Pay for their health care coverage so their families can make a living to survive.  Just like the local tourist places in Florida, part-time only and no benefits, I hope Corporate is happy, they own your soul.  Just bend over and say thank you sir, may I have another.

DINOSAUR DAY -  If you want to treat your little ones to dinosaurs and are in the Orlando area, head down to Tampa on I-4.  Plenty of signs directing you to "Dinosaur World", just right of the exit.  There is also a great winery down the road.

CHOCOLATE CHIP DAY - I'll take mine in ice cream or in a chocolate chip cookie.

May is Salad Month - My favorites are a nice Caesar Salad made at table side with all the ingredients that I desire. A nice Cobb Salad is enjoyable also or anything I can create at a salad bar.

SALSA MONTH - One of the best salsa's Roe and I ever had was at Azecta D' Oro, near Orlando. The freshness of their tasty salsa with their hot chips are great. I purchase local store brand salsa or picante sauce to put over burgers and my potato chips.  Sorry but I am addicted and by the way my son Jeff's makes a great salsa too.

Have a great Wednesday and maybe the Zip will do my job tomorrow.  Better give him a call.

HAPPY TUESDAY GUYS AND DOLLS

GOOD MORNING TO ALL,

As I promised yesterday, today I will honor May 13 and 14 holidays, so let's begin with no waste of time.

May 13:

TULIP DAY - Tulips always remind me of Easter.  Back home every flower shop had tulips for sale to give to Mom or Grandmom on Easter Sunday.  My daughter-in-law Elizabeth gave Roe a beautiful tulip plant for Easter and now that the flowers have died, I saved the bulbs to be planted later.  One beautiful flower to enjoy.

COUGH DROP DAY - I know I've been using them lately due to this sinus drip and allergies in the Sunshine State of Florida.  Remember the days ago when we had Pine Brothers, Smith Brothers, Luedens and still around are the Horehound Drops.  The Pine Brother's drops are hard to find, you can order them on line however, maybe one day I will due to that chewy texture.

I JUST CALLED TO SAY I LOVE YOU DAY - A song from Stevie Wonder.  Do this today before anything else, call or say it to the one you love.

DANCE LIKE A CHICKEN DAY - I guess we all could put some music on and cluck like chicken idiots and hope they don't come to take us away.  I remember when my sons were young, my Mom took them to the Polish Festival at St. Hedwig's and they heard the "Chicken Polka" played.  I can still see Mom and them flapping about.

APPLE PIE DAY - I love it plain, with ice cream or a whipped topping.  Just make sure those apples are plenty and the crust nice and soft.

FRUIT COCKTAIL DAY - To me a great fast snack, however, not enough cherries in there for me.

May 14:

CRAZY DAY - I guess this is a holiday to act crazy, like the Three Stooges for me.  Just don't do anything that is a dangerous crazy.

NATIONAL THIRD SHIFT WORKERS DAY - I know of one and it is very hard to adjust to that life style after working a day shift for many years.  The only thing worse is the second shift to me at least.  Happy holiday to you both.

PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY - All one can say is God rest in peace and thanks for the job you did to protect the people of your community.

STAR WARS DAY - This day is devoted to the birth of the creator Star Wars movies, George Lucas born this day.

NATIONAL BISCUIT DAY - Personally I'm not a big eater of biscuits or breads with meals.  Now a good biscuit at Thanksgiving is great to soak up all the gravy and stuffing.  So if you are really into biscuits today is your day to enjoy.

Speakies have a great day and a wonderful evening.

TOMATO PIE LOVERS BE ADVISED

JOEY Z HAS GOOFED, THE SHOW PIZZA CUZ IS ON THE COOKING CHANNEL AT 9 PM, INSTEAD OF THE FOOD CHANNELSOOOOO SORRY SPEAKIES.  ENJOY PAPA'S.

HAPPY MONDAY GUYS AND DOLLS

Good Morning Speakies,

Well here it is May 13 and the start of a brand new week.  I hope all the Mothers out there had a great day yesterday for Mother's Day.

Let's check out some national holidays for May and here we go:

NATIONAL BEEF MONTH - There are many kinds of beef, like roasts ranging from rib roasts, the gourmet's delight, to arm pot roast, for hearty he-man meals. Likewise, many different cuts of beef are called "steaks." Each of these cuts can vary in quality, depending upon the kind of carcass from which it came, but all are nutritious and all can provide good eating if properly prepared. The secret lies in suiting the cooking method to the grade and the cut you select.  Now Joey Z's favorite beef cut is a nice Filet Mignon.  Roe and I had a couple of filets last week at Outback and the quality was sub-par.  The best filets we ever  ate  were at a specialty restaurant on the cruises with Royal Caribbean.  The restaurant wascalled "Chop's Steakhouse."  Great food, appetizers, potatoes and desserts all for an extra service charge of only $20 per person instead of eating in the dining room for a night.  If you are ever on Royal Caribbean ships try it.

NATIONAL PROMOTE YOUR IDEAS MONTH - If you have an idea or something you created go for it, sell your idea to the public.  I wrote a blog and had a book published it was a small dream of mine.

NATIONAL EGG MONTH - I love eggs for breakfast or a fast evening supper.  Roe makes great omelet's and scrambled eggs with white American cheese and a little milk to hold in the moisture.  When we go out for breakfast for me it's 2 eggs over medium, with home fries and bacon crisp.  Enjoy your eggs this month.

NATIONAL HAMBURGER MONTH - Hamburgers one of America's favorites along with the hot dog.  I've watched a show called "Burger Land" on TV.  The host George takes you across the US for places that are recommended to him by burger fans.  There are some great burger places across the country.  In fact on one episode he visited Rossi's in Trenton, that show brought back memories, as we lived only 3 blocks away.  My favorite burger is a cheese burger with white American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and a sweet slice of onion.  Make my burger nice and fat.

Some holidays I missed over the weekend were:

NATIONAL NURSES DAY - For all the times I've been hospitalized the nurses who took care of me were great.  It's hard job with long hours.  God Bless them all.

NATIVE AMERICAN DAY - The good old Indians we as young children thought were the bad guys in all those western movies we watched.  Yes, our government finally started to treat them right, putting them on reservations and limit their space to live and it still exists today.  Shame on the US Government in general not only on behalf of the Indians but of the American-born Japanese and when WWII broke out.  The US needed their help as code breakers against the Japanese in the Pacific conflict.  Did they complain?  No, they offered their services and served well and died well.  The US locked up the American born Japanese during WWII and finally admitting they were wrong years later.  We are all lucky the Italians, Germans, Poles and Irish for being welcomed into this country.  Times have sure changed, some nationalities now seeking refuge are hunted like animals in certain border states.  Land of the Free, I hope so for many years to come before "Big Brother" will arrive and will place us all on its list of who to keep.

NUTTY FUDGE DAY - Saw plenty of it on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, never cared for it.  Have a great day and be careful out there.  All opinions are those of Joey Z.

Tomorrow honor some more great holidays including the American Apple Pie.

TOMATO PIE LOVERS, TONIGHT IS THE TONIGHT

Hello Trenton NJ Tomato Pie Lovers,

Yesterday, I sent e-mails out to my friends regarding "Trenton Tomato Lovers."  There is a new s show on the  Cooking Channel called "Pizza Guz."  Tonight at 9:00 p.m. the cousins visit and dine at Papa's Tomato Pies on Chambers Street.  Roe and I enjoyed delivery pies from there and they were great.  We only lived a few blocks away and delivery did not take long.  Papa's started making pies in 1902 and still are going strong.  So if you are a true tomato pie lover, watch it tonight.

I HATE TO WASTE MY TIME ON LOSERS IN FLORIDA

Hello Speakes,

Just heard two stories on the local news at 6:00 p.m.  The first one was a teacher who was arrested last week for having sex with a 17 year-old.  This bozo posted a cheap bond by the local asshole judge.  He was again arrested today for sex with a 15 year-old student and received another cheap bond.  This bozo and even the judge should be dropped on my island.  There is no help for these fun loving, put my hands in my pants and see who I can abuse next.  Look up George Carlin on You Tube to hear his views about this subject.

THANKS FOR ALL THE POSTS FROM ANONYMOUS READERS

Anonymous Readers and Comment Posters,

I thank you for all you for yourr comments on my blog, they are great.  Please leave an e-mail address so I can thank you in person via e-mail.  Too many chances to take now-a-days by just posting a random post.  Just wanted you to know I appreciate all your comments, please keep them coming.

FORGOT A FAMOUS BEER

GOOD AFTERNOON GUYS AND DOLLS:

 How could I forget Piel's Brother's Beer

Piels was founded in 1883 by the Piel brothers: Gottfried, Michael and Wilhelm Piel.  It  descended from an old Rhenish stock of farmers and to the original and extensive Stoffeln Farm, in Germany were now brewed..

The most famous thing about Piels Beer are the characters, Bert and Harry Piels.

Piels06.jpg

I remember these guys watching the Old Mets and Yankees play on TV back home.  Hope it brings back memories to some of you..

BEER HERE, GET YOUR BEER HERE

Hello Speakies,

Just read an article on Yahoo about beers that should be brought back.  Some of these are memories and some still available in the Sunshine State.

BALLANTINE - I had my first Ballantine when I was in the service.  A few of my barracks buddies went to the base bowling alley and there it was, only 3.2 beer but to me it was tasty.

STROH'S - Sorry never tried it.

PABST - Good old Pabst Blue Ribbon, still available at some places here, but no longer at the grocery store.

NATIONAL BOHEMIAN - Never heard of it.

OLYMPIA - Never saw this one on a shelf.

LONE STAR - Must be a Texan beer.

SCHLITZ - Another Trenton favorite, it was available here for times, but long gone now.

OLD MILWAUKEE - Still available in Florida or as my sons call it P--S Beer.

SCHAFFER - The one beer to have when you are having more than one.

There is one that Trenton, NJ is famous for "CHAMPALE."  This brew started in 1939 by the Metropolis Brewing Company, located on Lamberton and Lalor Streets.  When they brewed you smelled it.  My grandparents lived a few blocks away.

If any of you have a favorite beer not produced now, send me a comment.  Thanks.

SOMETHING TO SHARE

Good Morning Guys and Dolls,

My wife Roe sent me this poem by an unknown author that I want to share with you today.  Some of my friends have received this for the rest of you readers enjoy a meaningful poem.  I think this makes me feel thankful, as most of the times I am a big complainer of problems that I suffer from.  Share them with your loved ones or friends.  Have a great day.

THE WORLD IS MINE - Author Unknown
Today, upon a bus, I saw a very beautiful woman And wished I were as beautiful.
When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one leg and used a crutch. But as she passed, she passed a smile.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine. I have two legs; the world is mine.

I stopped to buy some candy. The lad who sold it had such charm.
I talked with him, he seemed so glad. If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me, "I thank you, you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you. You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine. I have two eyes; the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street, I saw a child I knew.
He stood and watched the others play, but he did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said, "Why don't you join them dear?"
He looked ahead without a word. I forgot, he couldn't hear.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine. I have two ears; the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I'd go..
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I'd like to know, Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed, the world is mine.

If this poem makes you feel thankful, just forward it to your friends.
After all, it's just a simple reminder that we have so much to be thankful
for!
Give the gift of love. It never comes back empty !

I have been truly blessed with an AWESOME FAMILY & FRIENDS !

HAPPY HUMP DAY GUYS AND DOLLS

Good Morning Speakies,

I guess I am having a bit of a brain fart memory this week, forgetting all about certain holidays in May, but today I will honor May 7 and 8.

May 7:

National Hoagie Day - I love Italian hoagies.  Back in Trenton the best were made by Italian Peoples Bakery and to me the WaWa on the corner of Liberty St. and Morris Ave.  Down in Florida we have Subway, Firehouse and a few more chain shops.  The best I've had down here was from Publix's Grocery Store.  A nice Italian sub fill with boiled ham, Coppola, Provolone cheese and I order hard Salami with mine.  They top that baby off with lettuce, tomato, jalapeno peppers, oil and vinegar. or the same hoagie with Boar's Head Meats if desired.  WaWa stores have recently opened here and their sandwiches can't compare to Publix.

Scale Day - What a great holiday to celebrate following eating a hoagie, just thought I would mention the pounds one may gain slamming down a large hoagie.

Tuba Day - Great for marching bands or big bands not one of my favorite instruments to listen to.

May 8:

No Sock Day - Most of the people down in Florida wear no socks or those little ankle socks.  Me I prefer regular sweat socks or if I'm just outside no socks at all.  A funny memory came to me back in high school we wore the button down shirts, Bermuda shorts and Penny loafers with no socks.

National Teacher and Red Cross Day - I combined them both.  They deserve the recognition and thanks from everyone in the US and across the world.

Have a great day.

I FORGOT STAR WARS DAY AND SOME OTHER HOLIDAYS I FORGOT

Good Morning Speakies,

This first paragraph is dedicated to my grandson Ian, a young Star Wars fan.  Pop-Pop says, "May the Force be with You Always."  Love you Ian and Grandmom Roe does too.

May is Pacific Heritage Month.  It has always been a dream of mine to visit the South Pacific Islands.  I read about Guadalcanal, Figi, Tahiti, Bora Bora and those other exotic islands.  Maybe I saw the movie "South Pacific" too many times.  The other day while waiting at the doctor's office there was a travel magazine and I could have spent hours reading the articles published about the Pacific Islands.  It's a bucket wish but at times when I close my eyes, I see me in a hammock with a Pacific beauty serving me a Mai Tai.  Dream on Joey Z.

May the 5th brought us to the first Major League Baseball's perfect game, pitched by Cy Young.  Nice job Cy.

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for the "Fifth of May") is a regional holiday in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico.  The holiday commemorates the Mexican army's defeat of the French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Sequin.  The most significant reason this battle was won would be the last time that an army from another continent invaded the Americas.

We also celebrated "Museum Lover's Day."  I love to visit museums, there are a few in St. Augustine, FL which Roe and I had the pleasure to see.  My son works at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota.  I've never seen that one to date but hope to visit it soon if  I'm not fishing with him first.  When our sons were in grammar school we attended a bus trip to Washington, DC to visit all the sites.  One day is not enough, I saw parts of the Smithsonian but I could have stayed there for days to catch the rest.

Have a great day, enjoy life and I will see you soon.  Thanks for reading my Blog.

GOOD MONDAY MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS

Hello Speakies,

As usual I hope you enjoyed the weekend and are ready to start a brand new week.  Being it is a Monday, let me attack something DOG NAMES.   Some of these names have become sickening to hear so I'll give you those first.  These names are real and can be checked out on the web.

DOGS WITH STRANGE AND I MEAN STRANGEWHIPMPY NAMES:

Johnson - I thought that was used to describe something else in the manly sense.
Puffy - Here is a real protector of the household.
Prozac - Sleepy and one big dope of a dog.
Anastasia - Must be the rebirth of that famous Grand Duchess of Russia, Anastasia Nikolaevna.
Augie Doggy - Sounds like a cartoon character, hey I think it was..
Bam-Bam - Send this puppy back to the Flintstones.
Barfy - The vomit king.
Beano - Clear the house, plenty of farts on the way to you and your family to smell.
Barkowicz - Nice Jewish name.
Binki-Momo - Sounds like a South Pacific Islant Chieftain, all hail to Binki- Momo from Bonga Bonga.

NOW FOR SOME REAL DOG NAMES, THESE ARE REAL DOGS:

Bear - Don't even come near the house at night.
Beau - Just like that French Foreign Legion hero "Beau Geste."  A no fear dog probably can shot a gun tool.
Buttons - A nice name for a sweet dog, male or female.
Killer - Don't even come in the gate to the front yard with this dog on duty.
Fang - This dog will sink you faster than a Vampire.
King - A proud name for any of the larger breed of dogs.
Buddy - A friend for life.
Buster - He will tear your socks and shoes apart.  Remember Buster Brown.
Crash - This dog will knock into walsl and windows, catch his balance and come after you like a crash of thunder.
Luee - My favorite loyal dog, watchful and friendly with children.  Hated cats.
Butch - Reminds me of one of the Little Rascals.  Put a cap on this dog and he will be the talk of the town.
Goliath - This dog is taller than you, so be nice.

I've had some fun for today and will be back soon.  Have a great day and I hope you enjoyed the post.

WEEKEND WISHES GUY AND DOLLS

Good Morning Speakies,

Making my usual short stop to wish you all a great Friday and a wonderful weekend to come.  I just want to add a few holidays for today and for the month of May to raise our glasses to.

NATIONAL SCRAP-BOOKING DAY - This one is for Roe, my daughter-in-law Elizabeth and all the other ladies who enjoy this hobby.  Roe has been at it for years but has slowed down and does a lot of cards now.  To all you ladies keep up the good work and enjoy.

NATIONAL HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MONTH - This is nothing to full around with, take it from me.  You never think it will effect you but watch out.  Have your blood pressure checked and if you need medication take it.

MOM'S ARE MARVELOUS MONTH - A great holiday to celebrate, Moms are the greatest loves in life.  I thank the good Lord for my mother and even my mother-in-law.  Most of all I thank Roe who in my eyes is the greatest Mom on Earth.  Love you Honey.

CARTOON APPRECIATION WEEK -  Who does not like cartoons or watched them as kids or even now.  Some of my favorites growing up were:  Tom & Jerry, The Road Runner, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Heckle and Jeckle and Fog Horn Leghorn just to name a few.  I never cared for Bugs Bunny or that Pepe Le Pew.  If you are still a kid at heart enjoy all the cartoons you love.

HAVE A GREAT ONE AND BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.

HAPPY THURSDAY SPEAKIES

Good Morning Guys and Dolls,

Yesterday, I completely forgot it was May 1'st and the beginning of a new month.  Let's hit those holidays for yesterday and today if they have any interest.  First of all we think of May flowers after those April showers, down here in Florida we need showers, but the wet season is approaching.  For you May birthday people your birthstones are the Emerald and Agate, meaning love and success.

Let me start off with May 1:

HAWAIIAN LEI DAY - I got a few leis in my day and get that dirty smirk off your faces.  Roe had leis at my surprise retirement party last July.  There may have been more at restaurants but right now I can't recall any of the occasions.  There is a Hawaiian lore that if you are leaving by ship and throw your lei into the ocean and if it floats back to shore you will be back if not, be grateful you visited the islands.

CHEERIOS MAKE THE SCENE - My favorite breakfast cereal debuted in 1941.  Now there are so many varieties made of Cheerios, just enjoy them as I do.

SAVE A RHINO DAY - I am not a big game hunter or a hunter in general.  Be kind to a rhino if you go hunting in Africa and if you see Ramar of the Jungle tell him Joey Z said hello.  Who was Ramar?  Look him it up on IMDB.

As for food, yesterday was Chocolate Parfait Day.  Some of the best parfaits I've ever enjoyed was back in Trenton, on Route 33 in a place called "The Parfait House."  Good food and ice cream in general.  I liked the Cherry parfait the best.

May 2'nd:

PLAY YOUR UKULELE DAY - I will not touch this day except that it is a perfect Hawaiian instrument to listen to.  Here are a few surprises on people who played the Ukulele:  Elvis (Yes he has left the building), George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Marlon Brando, Pierce Bronson, Bob Hope and Steve Martin to name a few.  Check out the web and you will be surprised who played this instrument.

BROTHER AND SISTER DAY - I'm an only child, so I can not officially celebrate this day.  To all my Speakies who have brothers or sisters, call them or see them today.  You are lucky.

TAKE A BABY TO LUNCH DAY - Some people will hate me for this but taking babies to restaurants, movies or on cruises is strictly too much for the little ones and their parents to bear.  We'vd had babies many times near us at restaurants while dining. All they did was cry and scream and we could not have a conversation with our companions.  We go out to dinner for conversation and relaxation.  Here's my idea, make a picnic lunch and go to the park and enjoy.  That is my opinion.

Have a great day and a wonderful evening.

A SAD AND ANGRY STORY TO WRITE ABOUT

Hello Speakies,

I'm sure most of you have read the new's story about the 5-year-old boy who accidentally shot his 2-year-old sister in a rural Kentucky town.  Mom was home when the shot was heard but stepped out on the front porch.  This rifle was kept in the corner and no one realized it was loaded.

The coroner told the new's reporters that this young boy received the .22-caliber rifle as a gift.  Here is the real kicker to this story.  It's a little rifle for a kid, it gets the kids ready to shot an AK-47 in a year or two.  Someone quoted, "down in Kentucky we're from guns passed down from generation to generation.  Why don't you start off with a plastic dart gun and see what happens.  Gun control in this country is needed and those Repubic hairs in Washington, DC bowed down to Wayne Lappierre and the NRA.  Hope you are happy about this story Wayne, what a name for the head of NRA, Lappierre, he should be a chef instead.

Accidents will happen with guns but not to involve a five or two year old.  I hope the stupid parents are hauled away and whipped and sentenced for life for your parental watchful eye.  Here is a story for the reality show, "GUNTUCKEY."

HERE ARE SOME FLORIDA STUPID THINGS THAT GET MY GANDER UP

Good Morning Guys and Dolls,

First of all, I like living in the Sunshine State of Florida.  There are ethnic places to visit like the Greek Sponge Capital of Tarpon Springs, the beautiful city of Sarasota with it's great beaches and fishing which I really enjoy while visiting the city.  There are the regular tourist spots like Disney, Universal and Wet and Wild.  Anything you want to do, relax or visit is available.

Now comes the negative that I heard on the news a few days ago.  I don't know how many states have this FCAT or if your school districts use a different name.  FCAT in Florida stands for Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.  This test consumes the teachers and the students time from learning what they need and the great pressure to pass mounts each year.  The grades received from the state could change the status of a school from an F grade to a higher grade, like a D, B or A.  Whatever happen to mid-term and final exams?  You studied and you tried your best to pass and make it to the next grade.  One learned different subjects that could benefit them as they grow-up not the pressure placed on these students today.  I give Florida the Joey Z grade of F for this bullsh-t.

Here is another winner concerning this FCAT stuff I heard on TV.  Roe and I live in the county where this story broke.  In some schools while taking this hell test the computers failed and the students had to wait 8 hours before they could continue the testing.  Quit wasting money on strip malls, hotels, chain restaurants that close in a few months and equip the schools with modern technology.  Most of the schools have one main building and the rest mobile classrooms.  Shame, Shame and more Shame.

Bear with me there is more.  The City of Orlando and Orange County area needs more schools, repairs to roads, parking facilities at hospitals and public buildings.  You name it and they can use it.  Orange County recently spent $500,000 on a Cricket Court hoping to entice a league and more tourism interest.  Where are the brains behind this madness?  Could it be the sport interests of this city.

The Orlando Magic to me basically own this city and recently expressed an interest in purchasing an entire block near the arena for night life including clubs, restaurants or whatever can make them a profit.  Orlando City Commissioners will do anything to kiss their ass and pass their desires. Another F grade to Orlando and Orange County.

Florida criminals, when I watch the news, who robbed who, who shot and killed police officers or family and the drug dealers that exist to make our society a better place to live.  If you never read my book, I wrote a section on how to deal with these gems of society.  Buy the book and read about, but here is a little insight.  Buy and island an send them all there just like in the movie "Escape from New York."  Mine has a different twist.

Have a great day and any comments will be accepted.  All opinions are strictly from Joey Z.
