We adopted Luee from the Humane Society in 1996. He was 2 years old, but still a pup. He has slowed down a bit; his age is catching up to him. He is the best dog anyone could ever have. Luee had to be put to sleep on April 15, 2009. Rest in Peace Pup.

WELCOME TO THE LAST DAY OF FEBRUARY 2013

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:

It's the last day of February, where did the month go?  Tomorrow we begin the month of March, but before that let's look what today brings.

PACZKI OR PACZEK DAY - Good old homemade Polish style donuts.  A paczek is a deep-fried piece of dough shaped into a flattened sphere and filled with a variety of sweet fillings if desired.  Paczek are usually covered with powdered sugar or icing.  A small amount of grain alcohol usually the Polish use Spiritus which is added to the dough before cooking.  As the alcohol evaporates, it prevents the absorption of oil deep into the dough.  My grandmother made paczeks especially for me when I was little and even as I grew older.  To my knowledge she never used any alcohol but she may have, grandmother had a small stash in her kitchen cabinet.  She made them so light and covered with powder sugar only and I sure could have one today.

NATIONAL CHILI DAY -  I love chili, Roe makes a killer chili that is favorable and spicy with her secret recipe known only to her.  Where I worked before I retired we had a chili cook-off every February and the varieties of chili recipes prepared made the cook-off fun.  Besides the chili everyone brought in side dishes which made for a great luncheon and great memories.

NATIONAL TOOTH FAIRY DAY - Still a great holiday for the little ones.  Loosing a tooth is something to a little one and should be rewarded as we all know the Tooth Fairy does.  My grandson recently lost two teeth and reaped a nice surprise.

I have to run for an appointment today, so this will be my post for now.  Have a great day and wonderful evening and remember, be careful out there.

A GREAT DAY

HELLO SPEAKIES,

I stopped by old place of work today and had a great time seeing all my old friends.  Two of my friends were retiring today and I could not pass up the chance to say hello and wish them the best.  I also had a great lunch with my former partner who shared the administrative position with me and our Assistant Manager.  I don't miss the job, but can never forget the friendships over the past twenty years.

TO ALL MY ANONYMOUS FRIENDS

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:

I'm going to make this a very short Wednesday post.  Many times I receive "ANONYMOUS COMMENTS", from my incoming e-mail.  Most of the comments are very nice, but some must becoming from Planet Vulcan.  I don't understand one word that is written, except Viagra appearing in between the lines.

I would be happy to post those great comments but cut out the sales pitches because I'm not going to open your website which may contain a virus, that I do not NEED on my computer.  So please if you enjoy my blog you can do an anonymous post without the ads and I will be more than happy to post your comments good or bad.

Thank you,

Joey Z.

ZIP'S QUIPS FOR TODAY

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:

I have assigned Zippy to pass along his quips and information tips to you today.  You're on Zippy!

Good morning Speakies and thank you Joey Z for allowing me to entertain your readers today.  First of all we will start with some humorous definitions.

Depart - De white line down de middle of the hair (A Cajun viewpoint).

Diplomacy - The art of letting someone else have your way.

Dust - Mud with the juice squeezed out.

Egotist - Someone who is usually me-deep in conversation.

Eyedropper - A clumsy ophthalmologist.

Gargoyle - Olive flavored mouthwash.

Handkerchief - Cold storage.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - Fear of long words.

Left Bank - What a robber did after his bag was full of loot.

Lymph - A walk with a lisp.

Mosquito - An insect that makes you like flies better.

Now for one last funny saying:  Regular naps prevent old age, especially if you take them while driving.

As my last note for today will be to honor a nut.  Today is "National Pistachio Day."  I have to tell you a secret, Joey Z loves nuts period (please get that funny smirk off your faces).  Peanuts, boiled peanuts, walnuts and cashews however; his favorite is the good old white Pistachio nut.  I know this because I have spoken with his wife who confirms this guy is nuts about nuts.  Have a great day and thanks again Joey Z.

GOOD MONDAY MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS

My very first post today was "Birthday Wishes" to our son Jeff.  Now for the rest of my Guys and Dolls I hope you all had a great weekend and are well rested to start the new week.  Let's check our calendar for today's events.

QUIET DAY - I love it when it's quiet especially when it comes to neighbors who make noise.  Roe is always kidding me about the type of living conditions I wish I could have if I won the lottery.  A nice Spanish style home on a few acres, with good neighbors and no noise.  That's my idea for spending a quiet day.

LET'S EAT RIGHT DAY - I try to eat right everyday but most of the times I have to have my potato chips at night.  Roe and I have been watching our sodium intake and eating smaller portions and it works and shows.  So for today give up those double cheeseburgers with tons of bacon, fries and that 96 ounce soft drink if only for today.

Today we also honor the "CHOCOLATE COVERED PEANUT."  I knew them as Goober's when going to the movies as a kid and I'm sure they are still around today.  My favorite was the chocolate covered Raisins.  So Speakies if you love those chocolate peanuts in any shape or form today is the day to enjoy.

Now for more new book titles to make you laugh on a Monday:

40 Yards to the Latrine by Willy Makit and Betty Wont.
Archery Made Easy by Beau N. Arrow.
Assault with Battery by Eva Ready.
The Big Fart by Hugh Jass.
Breaking the Law by Kermit A. Krime.

Enjoy the day and have a wonderful evening.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEFF

TO OUR SON JEFF,

MOM AND I WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY WITH MANY MORE TO COME.  YOU ARE A GREAT SON, HUSBAND AND FATHER.  WE LOVE YOU VERY MUCH AND ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU.

ENJOY THE DAY.

WEEKEND WISHES AND WHY'S WITH THE ZIP

HELLO ZIPSTERS:

I'm taking over for Joey Z today, however he wishes you all a wonderful weekend.  Now for some Amazing Why's of Life....

Why do people point to their wrist when they want to know what time it is, but they don't point to their pants when the need to ask where the restrooms are?

Why is abbreviation such a long word?

Why do you have to "put your two cents in", but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"?  Where is the extra penny?

Why is the small size of a candy bar called the "fun size"?  It's more fun to eat a big candy bar.

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?  Hope you enjoyed this change today.  More to come in the following weeks.

Now today we also celebrate "NATIONAL MARGARITA DAY."  First of all a Margarita is a Mexican cocktail consisting of Tequila mixed with Cointreau along with lime or lemon juice.  The rim of the glass is usually dipped in salt for that great flavor.  I'm happy to say I had one in Mexico at Pancho's Backyard.  From the Zip have a great weekend and enjoy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM

Good Morning Speakies:

Welcome to Thursday, February 21.  First of all I want to wish my cousin Tom a very "HAPPY BIRTHDAY WITH MORE TO COME.  STOLAT!"  Tom reads my blog everyday and I still remember the good old days when we hung out in South Trenton and all the fun we shared.

Let us see what today brings as far as celebrations go.

WORLD THINKING DAY - Should be considered dangerous for most countries.  Plenty of nimyos' reside in the world today and we do not want them thinking too much.

LOVE YOUR PET DAY - Our family will always hold our dog Luee's memory close in our hearts.  He was a great Lab mix and just lovable as a dog could be.  If you have pets take care of them, show affection and see how much they will love you back for it.  There is too much animal cruelty in the US alone.  Practically everyday in Florida there is a news story about it.  Let's stop the cruelty now.

As for food, today is "STICKY BUN DAY."  I was never a fan of sticky buns, too much of that glaze on your fingers trying to eat them.  A nice cream filled doughnut like the ones I ate growing up would suit me fine.

NATIONAL CHERRY MONTH - I would have to say my favorites are the Bing Cherries and the Royal Ann Cherries.  Some other ones you may enjoy are the Lambert and Rainier Cherries.  Cherry Pie can also be enjoyed today.  Washington State is the largest supplier of cherries grown on the West Coast, Canada and Chile, just for a fact.

Now for something new for my blog.  This will be an assignment for Zippy to do now from time to time.  What is it you ask?  FUNNY BOOK TITLES.  I use to love them as a kid so here are some you may remember.

April Fool's by Sue Prize.
50 Years in the Saddle by Major Asburn
A Boxing Cornerman's Story by Dawson DeTowel
Blond Hair by Bim Bow

Enjoy the day Speakies.

HAPPY HUMP DAY SPEAKIES

GOOD MORNING ALL:

Hope to find you all in a great mood as it is Hump Day for the working stiffs.  Today Joey Z will be teaching some history of the day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAYS:

1924 - Gloria Vanderbilt, "my jeans look good on you."  They should they probably cost about $50 a pair in the 80's.

1949 - Ivana Trump, the ex good looking wife of Donald Trump.  This guy pisses my ass off and that's all I'm saying.

1955 - Kelsey Grammer better known as Frasier Crane to most of us.  I still love watching his show. He and Niles are great together for all the barbs they throw at each other.

DIED TODAY:

1985 - Clarence Nash, the voice of Donald Duck.

1992 - Dick York, husband on the TV show Bewitched.

STUFF FOR TODAY:

1673 - 1'st recorded reord of a wine auction held in London, England.  Hey guys send me over a nice bottle of White Zinfandel.

1792 - U.S. Postal Service established.  How much was a stamp in those days?  Did they have a mailman or did they have to go to the post office?

1942 - Lt. E. H. O'Hare downs 5 Japanese heavy bombers.  That man was an ace in those days.

1962 - John Glenn was the first to orbit the Earth in Friendship 7.

1993 - Florida Marlins open their first Spring Training Camp in Florida.  We saw one of their games at Osceola Stadium in Kissimmee, FL.  I have a Marlins hat signed by Wayne Huizenga the first owner of the Marlins.

Have a great day Guys and Dolls and I hope you all learned a little history of the day.

WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS:

Hopefully I have some good stuff to present to you Speakies today.

NATIONAL HOBBY MONTH - I never had a real devotion to any hobby.  I collected baseball cards, coin collections, painting at one time, which I may consider again, even though I hate to paint houses and the rest of the property stuff kind.  I would say my Blog is my hobby and I really enjoy it.  I remember the late George Carlin said, "Hobbies cost money, I have interests."

HOT BREAKFAST MONTH - It would be great to have a nice size breakfast everyday, but think of all the calories and sodium in those home fries, bacon and sausage.  For me it is a bowl of cereal, or toasted raisin or rye bread, with a cup of coffee and orange juice later to swallow my pills.  Roe and I go out for breakfast once in awhile at Cracker Barrel or some other small non chain dives.  Remember dives serve the best food.  Want a great hot breakfast go on a cruise and really enjoy a good hot one every day at the dining room or buffet.  At home make sure those little ones have breakfast everyday to keep them going.

CHERRY COKE'S BIRTHDAY - Cherry Coke is good, but to me it brings back memories of my old stomping grounds, the Brunswick Avenue Pharmacy.  During my teen years we had a group of about six guys who spent our evenings at the soda fountain located inside.  Our friend Charlie was behind the counter and serving us Cherry, Vanilla, Lemon Cokes and the other great flavors that he created.  That was my favorite Cherry Coke made at the fountain by a great guy and friend.  Most of us guys lost touch with each other after high school, but like I said the memories are there.

WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR, MR. ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD DEBUT IN 1968 - My boys watched the show when they were little and I have to admit I thought it was a great show to teach the young ones about life.  I can still hear Fred Rogers singing that song.

Have a great day Guys and Dolls.

ANOTHER HAPPY MONDAY IS HERE

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS:

Hope all your Valentine wishes came true and personally, I wish you many more through out the years.  We have some February stuff for today, let us get started.

The Moon in February has many names, but the one that stuck to my mind was the "WOLF MOON."  Get your silver bullets ready for those werewolves ready to attack.  Did any of my Speakies see the Silver Bullet movie by Stephen King?  Great movie, but the ones that really scared me the most were "Salem's Lot and IT."  That is it for horror today.  The birthstone of February is the Amethyst which means sincerity.  For all my Speakies that is a great word along with its meaning.  Share that  meaning always with the ones you love.

Today we celebrate "THUMB APPRECIATION DAY."  Try to live without those thumbs of yours.  Do you know how important those babies are?  For all those veterans and Guys and Dolls who lost their thumbs for whatever circumstance, I feel for you.

PLUTO DISCOVERED IN 1930.  Was it Mickey Mouses dog or the plane?  My thinking it is the one up in the solar system.

CHOCOLATE LOVERS MONTH - Dolls, February has Valentine's Day and for you to enjoy all those chocolate goodies.  Some of my favorites are the following:

CHELO DARK CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRIES AT CHRISTMAS TIME.
HERSHEY'S DARK CHOCOLATE BARS.
CRACKLE BARS.
ANDIES MINTS.

HERE IS AN OLDIE FOR YOU, A CHUNKY BAR. WHAT A HUNK OF CHOCOLATE AND  REESE'S PEANUT BUTTER CUPS.  I BETTER STOP NOW; I  NEED A FIX.

Enjoy the day Speakies and be careful out there.  P.S. send me your favorites, don't be afraid to write, the pen (or keyboard) is mightier than the sword.

THIS ONE IS FOR ELIZABETH

HELLO GUYS AND DOLL:

I KNOW SOME OF MY WRITINGS HAVE BEEN SHORT THIS WEEK.  SOMETIMES I JUST WANT TO SAY WHAT I FEEL IN MY HEART AND NOT WORRY ABOUT THE DETAILED STUFF THAT CONSUMES PEOPLE.  KEEP LIFE SIMPLE AND ENJOY THE IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE FAMILY FIRST.

I WISH YOU ALL A GREAT WEEKEND, BUT FIRST OF ALL THIS IS A SPECIAL DAY FOR MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW ELIZABETH.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE AND MANY MORE TO COME.  ROE AND PAPA Z LOVE YOU.  ENJOY THE DAY AND THE EVENING.  STOLAT.

BE HAPPY, BE FRIENDS FIRST OF ALL, LOVERS NEXT AND HAPPINESS WILL FIND YOU ALWAYS.

ENJOY YOUR LUNCH, DINNER, ROSES, CANDY OR JEWELRY TODAY, BUT KEEP MY WORDS IN YOUR HEART FOR A GOOD LIFE TOGETHER.

ONE DAY CLOSER TO VALENTNE'S DAY

GOOD MORNING SPEAKIES:

Just a warning from Joey Z get that shopping done before it is too late tomorrow, unless you are the last minute type.  I wish you all a great Valentine's Day but now let's see what is on the front burner today.

GET A DIFFERENT NAME DAY - I like Joseph, I like my sons 's names and my grandkids names.  Just sit back and think about your name and what first name would fit it.  I always liked the Mexican name Alejandro which in Greek means defender.  Maybe that is why Zorro's first name in those recent movies was named Alejandro.  My granddaughter's name is Nina and I love it, she wants to be a singer one day.  My grandson is Ian, this kid is going to create some big project one day with his imagination he is smart as a whip and funny as hell.  So choose your new name and have fun.  For some of your Guys and Dolls a little roll playing for February 14.

MADLY IN LOVE WITH MYSELF - For me not really, I have faults just like everyone and can't be in love with my self.  Come on Speakies search your souls and truly answer this celebration.

CANNED FOOD MONTH - What would we do without canned food.  Veggies, soups, fruit, potatoes, sauces and of course and I can not forget Pork and Beans. The more you eat the more you toot.  Just read the labels for sodium content and buy no salt added for a healthier you.

Today is also Tortini Day which is really ice cream.  Now at Publix supermarkets when on sale we purchase Eddy's Spumoni which is delicious on those hot summer nights and if you are truly hooked every night is a winner.

Have a great day and a wonderful evening.

ORGANIZED RELIGION

HELLO SPEAKIES:

Just read a story on the net.  A girl in Utah is kicked out of school for her new hair color.  I should have figured ii was those Mormons who believed in multiple wives at one time and now they pick on a teen changing her hair color.

Get rid of organized religion and in a few generations, no more problems.  I was raised a Catholic, but come on with all the scandal it is time for a change.  The Pope is stepping down, let's face it get new younger ideas and maybe we can have a religion that will survive.  Remember all those ancient times when aliens helped the Egyptians build their pyramids, along with other civilizations.  God is an Alien and I believe in him and pray every night.  To pay money to organized religion is a sin on my part.

I don't care what you think and if you do, send some comments.

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

HAPPY FEBRUARY GUYS AND DOLLS

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS:

Today we honor good old Abe Lincoln, born this date.  Do you older Speakies remember that we celebrated two holidays back in our younger days, Abe's and George Washington's birthdays.  Now we only get one President's Day off.  Don't change from the old format it gave us more days off.  Now the only holidays you may get off prior to Memorial Day are Good Friday, Easter and if you take a personal holiday.  Remember May is a long way off.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABE AND GEORGE ENJOY THE HONORS OF THE DAY.

LOST PENNY DAY:  - Don't forget about those old pennies in those jars or containers, you may have a great oldie that can bring you top buck.  Check out all those wheat pennies on line and see if they are worth some bigger cash.

MAN DAY - What the hell is Man Day?  We now have man caves built in demand for all those nimyos who do not want to spend time with their wives or children.  They sit there and watch every game that is available and drink all the Buds and eat all those hoagies and pizzas they want.  What a waste of life you losers!  Take the kids out for a game, enjoy the fresh air and maybe your Doll will respond more instead of being a sports widow and ice cold under the sheets.

PANCAKE DAY - I finally had pancakes around the Christmas holidays.  A friend of my son's who Roe and I regard as our third son, brought over a basket of goodies.  Included was a bag of pancake mix and some great syrup.  The pancakes were great, light and fluffy, thanks John and Wanda.

Have a great day and a wonderful evening.  Thanks for stopping by.

A NEW RESTAURANT REVIEW

HELLO SPEAKIES:

Last week my son Joe and his wife Elizabeth asked if we were interested in going to dinner near his home in Clermont, FL.  Of course Roe and I said yes; new places to dine are worth a try.  First of all, I want to thank to Joey and Elizabeth for a fun time at dinner and a wonderful evening playing games and cards.  I wish you guys lived closer to spend more time together.  Mom and Papa Z love you guys very much.  Now for the place and food.

If you lived in the "Burg" of Trenton, NJ, this place will take you back to the old memories of how it was.  The restaurant is named GOOMBAS, located at 151 W. Highway 50 in Clermont, FL.  They have a website with all their dishes that are prepared.

We started with a Tapas of  Flat bread which was covered with Italian meats and lightly streaked with a light Balsamic vinegar  Next came Mussels Fra Dravolo that Roe and I ordered.  Tender morsels of mussels in a hint of spice in the marinara.  Joey and Elizabeth gave it a try and also enjoyed our selection.  They each ordered Caesar salad which was a healthy serving portion. Roe and I skipped the salads and ordered Pasta Fagioli  soup.  This was in Roe's opinion the real stuff.  Beans and pasta in a great broth without the frills of meat or vegetables. Just as she remembers as a child. We brought some of the soup to enjoy at home so as to make room for our main course.

Next the main course and this is funny.  Elizabeth ordered Veal Marsala, no problems there.  Joey ordered Chicken Parm, Roe and I ordered Veal Parm.  When the entrees arrived they gave me the Chicken Parm, Joey and Roe the Veal.  Joey said his chicken tasted funny, Roe's was fine and I thought I had veal too.  To find out I had the chicken and our waiter brought Joey out a fresh order of Chicken Parm.  I stayed with the chicken, but had enough for a doggie bag. I donated my dinner to Joey to bring home and enjoy as a meal at work.  So much food, great taste, you name it and this place has it.  Keep it up Goombas.

IT IS MONDAY ONCE AGAIN

HELLO SPEAKIES:

I know Mondays are not your favorite day of the week, but be grateful for living through one more Monday.  Hope you all had a great weekend.  In our neighborhood we had a Chinese Auction Sunday along refreshments that included hotdogs, chips and soda and cake to raise money for the community. That stuff is for a women.  Give me a rod, some lures or worms and that's my auction, better yet the Gulf Coast of Florida for plenty of fish to catch.

I wanted you to know I started to water proof the ramp.  Rain has been in the forecast and no way I'm applying the water seal.  Let's see what is happening today.

DON'T CRY OVER SPILLED MILK DAY - If I spilled milk it would be my luck the whole bottle would be on the floor of my kitchen.  2 weeks ago, Roe forgot to tighten the lid on the orange juice container, I took it out of the ice box (that is what I always called it, call me old fashion) and gave it the good old college shake, juice went all over the sink and floor, now I check everything.

WHITE TEE SHIRT DAY - White tee shirts and jeans growing up and after a good bath or shower a new set was on my body except in summer when shorts were worn  I had both tee shirts with a front pocket and just plain.  I even remember guys rolling up their cigarette packs in the sleeves. The good old days are remembered.

SHUT IN VISITATION DAY - If you know a person who is shut in, sick or just lonely, pay them a visit today.  You will make their day and feel the happiness in your heart as well.

LAZY-BOY CHAIR RELEASED THIS DATE IN 1948 - When we first moved to Florida we purchased a Lazy-Boy recliner.  It did not live up to the specifications under the purchase price and we never received any reimbursement or satisfaction from the company.  Last chair we ever purchased from that nimyo company.  Florida, the land of crooks who want to take your cash.

HAVE A GREAT DAY AND START SHOPPING FOR THAT SPECIAL GUY OR DOLL.  VALENTINE'S DAY IS NEARING.

Saturday, February 9, 2013

APPLICATION IS LOOKING GOOD.

HELLO GUYS AND DOLLS:

STARTED THE OLD RAMP TODAY AND ALL IS STARTING TO FALL IN PLACE.  I WILL PROBABLY NEED ABOUT 4 MORE GALLONS OF THIS WOOD PROTECTOR STUFF.  THE ONLY THING IS THE VAPORS GOING INTO MY LUNGS.  I DO IT ABOUT 3 HOURS AND STOP.  MAY SEND A PICTURE LATER WHEN FINISHED.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.

WEEKEND WISHES SPEAKIES

HAPPY WEEKEND SPEAKIES:

Just wanted to stop by and wish all my Guys and Dolls a great weekend.  Painting hoping no rain comes.  It will be Spring Training down here in Florida soon.  The Houston Astros  are about 15 or 20 minutes away.  Nice stadium but I'm sure the prices are up.  I use to get Atlanta Braves tickets from work, only when they played my Phillies.  Great seats, nice stadium and every game my son and I watched those Phillies would win.  If not for a freebee, those seats would sell for around $40 a piece and believe me those games all spring training are sold out.  Disney rolls in the bucks again along with ESPN.

LAUGH AND GROW RICH DAY - I will truly laugh if I win the Florida Lottery or the Powerball some day.  A new house for us and my sons and live to enjoy a retired life at no stress. Wish me luck as I do you do.

G.I. JOE'S BIRTHDAY - You know his birthday was named after me, just kidding.  Great comic books as a kid, but since then I have not read a comic book.  Maybe I should have saved the old ones, just like the baseball cards I use to put in my bicycle spokes.  Dumb ass me.

Over the weekend we celebrate LOX and BAGEL DAY - Once at a Jewish friend's house I had that as part of a brunch.  Really loved it.  So if you Guys and Dolls love Lox and Bagels today is your day.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.  NO MORE FOOTBALL GAMES, BASEBALL WILL COME SOON.  NOW WE HAVE TO SETTLE FOR COLLEGE BASKETBALL OR THE PRO'S.  GIVE ME COLLEGE ANY DAY.  GO PRINCETON!

Thursday, February 7, 2013

HAPPY THURSDAY GUYS AND DOLLS

GOOD MORNING GUYS AND DOLLS:

Went to Home Depot and made my purchases, let's see what happens.  I probably will be laying the first coat on today but I wanted to write to my readers first.

SEND A CARD TO A FRIEND DAY - I have a couple good friends that I talk to and to me that is better than sending a card.  So for all those dear friends near to you, give them a call instead of a card.

WAVE ALL YOUR FINGERS AT YOUR NEIGHBORS - Only have a few good ones which I cherish as friends.  The rest can have my middle finger as far as I am concerned.  That's me and the attitude I have. I do not put up with bullshit from people that pretend.

DUMP THE JERK DAY - All right Guys and Dolls, this is the true day for dumping.  Single, Engaged or Married.  If you are involved with any of these jerks today is the day to pull the plug and watch them go down the drain.  We all need is happiness and that does not include jerks, bullies, abusers or whatever humanoids you are involved with. Give them the Deep Six Today. These are the words of Joey Z, so it is written so let it be done.

FETTUCCINE ALFREDO DAY -  It is a pasta or as the Italians would say macaroni tossed with Parmesan Cheese and butter.  As the cheese is melting the liquids form a smooth and rich coating on the pasta.  Now I like my Fettuccine pasta mixed with Marinara sauce and shrimp.  So good.  Roe, Elizabeth and my son Joey love the real Fettuccine cream sauce maybe mixed with chicken or seafood.  Enjoy guys.

This is it for today, have a great one and please be careful out there.  As the weekend approaches, make your plans and hope for a good time and weather.  Thanks for reading, otherwise it would not be worth writing.  Thanks again.

NOT WRITING MUCH TODAY

Good Morning Speakies:

You ask why Joey Z?  I have to get started on water proofing my disability ramp they built for Roe.  A few years ago we put in an application to have one built.  Finally in October of last year they called and put one in for free.  Not the best of craftsmanship but services a purpose in case we ever need it once again.  The county does do nice things for seniors and it was appreciated.  I hate painting, now I love to paint on canvas but household painting is not my thing.  If Roe reads this one, I have not painted on canvas for years.  Honey Roe is far better than me painting, but this is my project to get into Purgatory. Wish me well Speakies, progress reports to follow.  Can't wait to get started RIGHT.

Let's check out a few things for today:

1895 - Babe Ruth was born.  I saw several Babe Ruth movies, but the best was with William Bendix a great actor in the 30's and 40's.  He also starred in the TV series "The Life of Reilly."

1935 - The game of Monopoly was released.  That is the longest game in the world to play, personally I hate it, but that's me.

In the month of February, we celebrate Kraut and Frank Week.  When is the last time you had a hot dog with mustard and kraut?  For me it has been a long time and sounds good with a nice side of pork and beans.  We will be tooting all night long.

Well that is it for today, have a great one.  If I don't write for the next few days come over and help me paint my ramp.

WELCOME TO FEBRUARY 5, 2013

Good Morning Guys and Dolls:

No good fishing results from the weekend, too cold and the tides were not in our favor.  We will try again soon, pictures will be available if the big one is caught.  Now for a little information about today and February in general.

ROMANCE MONTH - Makes sense to me with Valentine's Day coming up shortly.  Guys and Dolls it is time to think about a gift, maybe some flowers, a nice dinner and for the serious ones that engagement ring.  I forgot about getting married in this month for those Speakies planning the big event.  No matter what you do, enjoy the romance of the month and luck to you all.

WILD BIRD FEEDING MONTH - I guess I'm probably not the only person on this planet that takes care of our little feathered friends outside.  I give them a good diet of bread, some water and whatever crackers that are not being used.  They even enjoy my old potato chip crumbs left in my container.  My son Jeff planted a small tree or bush in front of our patio years ago.  It is now become the nest of a mother dove.  I can go up to her through the screen of course, say hello and she does not budge or is afraid of  me.  I have to see what happens when the eggs hatch and will give you the full report of course.

THANK A MAILMAN DAY - We have a nice mail lady who at times will bring our mail to our door personally if there is a bundle or something that will not fit in our mailbox.  I remember the good old days of when the mailmen walked, delivering the mail with their heavy bags and always a great attitude.  My grandmother's mailman was a great guy, always saying hello, how are you, have any mail for me.  Before I entered the service, I passed the postal exam and when discharged I turned it down.  One of my many faults in my life. Oh well life was good so I can't complain.

SALE OF THE FIRST WIFFLE BALL - Loved playing wiffle ball, especially with the skinny hard bat and not that Fred Flintstone style.  I won the home run championship at the Boys Club one summer clubbing HR's like Sammy Sosa.  Enough for today, have a great day and enjoy.

HAPPY MONDAY THE FOURTH OF FEBRUARY

Good Morning Speakies:

For all those football fans out there, I hope the team you cheered for was the winner last night.  I only caught part of the game, as I was out fishing.  Yesterday February 3, 1959, was a date in history called "When the Music Died."  I was a young pup at the age of 11 and really did not appreciate the rock music until I was a little older.  As I look back I remember enjoying the music of all three who died and I cannot forget mentioning the pilot of the plane that crashed in Clear Lake, Iowa early that morning.  Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson.  Their music lives on still, with great influences on the music of the 60's including today.  R.I.P. you guys.

Today is "Popcorn Day", not one of my favorite snacks, I'm more of a potato chip, pretzel and nut fan.  I need popcorn with loads of salt and butter and that is a no-no now.  So you lovers out there of popcorn, go see a movie or buy the microwave kind and enjoy.  Do they still make Jiffy Pop?

USO DAY - I was at the USO once when I was in the service and not many soldiers or airmen filled the room they enjoyed the beer joints more.  The USO is still a great contribution to America's military in time of need and should to be honored today.  For the WWII men this place meant a lot to them and kept their morale up.  Keep it up USO.

HOMEMADE SOUP DAY - I have been through this before.  Mom's homemade chicken soup, vegetable soup and her famous pea soup that had everything in it were my favorites.  Pea
soup was Roe's favorite and she is sorry she never wrote down the recipe.  Roe makes a great chicken soup and I heard the temps in Florida will be going down.  Maybe a good week for soup!  I have to mention, Granny made some great chicken soup also.  When I really needed a soup fix, my favorite was Mrs. Grass chicken soup with that golden egg and noodles in that green box.  Good Day for soup Guys and Dolls, enjoy.

Have a great day and a wonderful evening.

HAPPY GROUNDHOG'S DAY

HELLO GUYS AND DOLLS:

I usually do not write over the weekends, but I had to pay tribute to old my old pal "PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL, that great weather groundhog.  Once again I wish my Northern Speakies a short Winter.  And hoping Spring comes earlier for all of you to enjoy.  They probably hate me in the ski areas but what the heck.

Today is also Heavenly Hash Day.  To me hash is diced meat, potatoes and assorted spices all mixed together and add some onions.  Hash is usually served as a breakfast food in most restaurants along with the eggs of your choice.  My favorite is Roast Beef Hash.  Time for breakfast.  Have a great one and get your last minute Super Bowl shopping done early.

WELCOME TO FEBRUARY AND MY WEEKEND WISHES

HAPPY FRIDAY GUYS AND DOLLS:

Super Bowl weekend is near.  Make sure if you are having a party get your grub early and if you decide to celebrate it elsewhere, watch the booze and driving.  Just have fun and be careful.  Hate to see lives lost.  The Boids are out so I'll be watching the game as played.

Tomorrow is "GROUND HOG DAY", and I hope it is a good one for you Speakies up North.  Now for today and the month.

RETURN CARTS TO THE SUPER MARKET - Yes this monthly holiday is a must, I don't want to see carts against my car, near my car or anyone who might not see it and over it goes.  There are spots marked for returning carts, use them.

WORKING NAKED DAY - Maybe in Europe, but I do not see it happening in the good old US of America.  I would not mind however except I'm not working anymore.  If you want to get naked today, close the blinds in your house and have fun baby.

BAKED ALASKA DAY - It is a dessert made of ice cream placed in a pie dish lined with slices of sponge cake and topped with meringue.  The dessert is then placed in an extremely hot oven for a period of time, long enough to firm up the meringue.  Roe and I have had Baked Alaska on several of our cruises.  It is always presented with a flame on top as the waiters carry it out and the lights are dimmed.

That is it for today, have a great weekend and if you are a San Francisco or Raven fan the best to you all.  See you next week.
